View 3 RepliesAttempted to update to 8.1 yesterday and the store just won't open. Every time I click on the Store tile it doesn't get past the green introductory screen before just disappearing (crashing).. Have restarted several times and used the link-through on the Windows 8.1 site. Also, I have since discovered that all apps won't open either (such as news and sports).

I have tried ms fixit file which said display driver might be out of date but couldn't fix it, device manager says display driver is uptodate and offers no way to rollback either.
Uninstalled the apps but windows store also doesn't work so I cant redownload them.
Ever since upgrading to 8.1 I am unable to use the mail app, the store app and most metro apps. when I open one of them the immediately get stuck and eventually crash. Another issue I found is that the brightness adjuster wont work no more.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI got my new tablet today and am having no issues with anything except the Store. It takes forever to open but it shows that I have 26 apps needing updates. I clicked on a random app and clicked on install and it just shows pending on my screen. I'm surfing the web, downloading windows updates, etc...
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 8 pro with media center and everytime I insert a DVD, I want to play it with Windows Media Player, NOT Media Center. But it doesn't even provide me with the option to open it with media player. Which is getting very annoying because I can not stand Media Center anymore. Unlike in the Windows 7 where in autorun it used to provide the browse option to choose any other source to open a file with. Here it doesn't do so.
1. I tried to change AutoPlay settings by navigating to Control Panel --> Programs --> Default Programs --> Change AutoPlay Settings. But it doesn't show windows media player as an option to play the video file from a DVD. HOWEVER it is available for any Audio file from a DVD source.
2. I tried to disable Media Center Feature from Programs and Features. But no luck. Both options have failed. I don't know what to do. I do not want to use Media Center to play video from my DVD.
I've searched the internet extensively for information on how to create an app for my windows 8 computer, but haven't found diddly squat. I see self-made apps in the store, but none of them are what I'm looking for so I decided to try and make my own. It's purely informational, with lists and links between pages inside the app.So how do I make an application?
Preferably, I'd like do it all with free stuff, because if I had the money to buy software, I'd just buy a smartphone and make an app for that. But the app I want to make is literally just a bunch of informational pages linking between each other for easy navigation. Like a PowerPoint, but as an app.
i have a problem with my windows 8 . all my apps on my start screen cant open.. Its say that This apps can't open check window store for more information and gt a little X at the top right of the all apps..

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have noticed that applications that are launched from the Metro IU load and run much faster than the same applications launched from IE under desktop. I have even created Metro tiles for applications I normally run as they load and run much faster than launching them from the desktop. This site (Windows Eight Forms) would not load from desktop IE but loads immediately from a Metro tile I created.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIt is possible update for all users the Windows Store apps with a local account belonging to the Administrators group? Then, I believe that the management of updating of the Windows Store apps can also be managed only by administrators. Right? If so, how do I do this?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI really like windows 8 and stuff, but ive been having problems with windows 7 so i decided to install windows 8.1 and never look back, but it appears that ive had an issue for the first time ever with windows 8.x
So I was trying to make this game called blacklight retribution run on windows 8 (it crashes for some reason)
And at some point i was installing some radio apps for the metro interface and trying to play the game at the same time (my PC is pretty weak -3.1ghz AMD processor, 4gb ram, 500gb hdd and a radeon 3300 hd integrated graphics card)
So my windows 8.1 (with the latest updates) crashed with the all-cool-new-bluescreen-of-death and after that my windows store app renders its content as if its broken, here's what it looks like:
I restarted windows numerous times, but the windows store app still appears to be "broken" but other apps seem to work as they should.
I am new to windows 8 and I couldn't find a way to restore windows to an earlier point, I know a very straightforward way - reinstall windows 8.1.
I do prefer a local account but when i try to install new apps from app store Windows 8.1 asks me to switch to a microsoft account.
Can I install apps with a local account? and how can i understand if I have a local account or microsoft account.
When I try to download Metro apps from Windows Store, I receive an error message saying "Something happened and this app couldn't be installed. Please try again later. Error code: 0x80010108".
I Googled it and tried to reset Windows Store cache by wsreset.exe but it didn't work. It occurs to every app I try to install.
Is it possible to download free apps from Windows Store directly (without going through "Windows Store" icon/apps in Windows 8.1? I'm having a problem with Windows Store in my OS, whenever I try it, it just said no network connection, but I can surf no problem using FF/Skype etc. If I can go directly to Windows Store website and download the apps directly from there, it'll be awesome, but everytime I tried, it just goes back to my OS Windows Store.
View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter installing all available updates of windows 8.1, my checkbox for "Show windows Store apps on taskbar" simply disappeared from the taskbar properties. Moreover, the on and off option from Settings -> Change PC settings -> PC and devices -> Corners and edges -> App switching also seems to be forever gone. In other words when I open an app I can't close it (Esc isn't working any more or X option) and I can't see it on the taskbar

View 2 Replies View RelatedIn January I bought a Dell laptop with Windows 8. I recently upgraded to 8.1. Now most app tiles have an x on the right hand side of them, and I cannot access PC settings, the app store, and most other apps.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a game from the Windows Store. It said it was installed. I went to the start screen to find it and it is not there. I did a search and it does not show up. I went back to the store to re-install it but it says I own the app, how I can sort this out. I am running Windows 8.1 Preview.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAll of a sudden my Windows 8.1 Dell Latitude 10 tablet cannot access most all of the Win32 applications. I go to access an item in windows explorer or say device manager and get a message system could not access or may not have permission. Most programs seem to be working, but a lot of services are not such as WiFi, sound, network etc. since I cannot access win32 applications I can not get into services.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just installed Windows 8 a few days ago. It took some time to put together the partitions and programs I wanted to install on my new SSD and set up the external storage drive with my old hard drive, but it was totally worth the effort. I love the operating system and how it works with my desktop and hardware. It boots quickly, the themes are aesthetically pleasing, and access to everything is far easier to navigate.
However, I do have some issues with the Metro Menu / Applications. I have downloaded several applications, notably Twitter and Skype. Those two applications have been snapped into the left side of my screen. While they are useful and important to me, what troubles me is that I don't have a copy / cut function for either application.
Is there a way to add that feature to both applications? I would much rather avoid the clutter of a desktop Skype program or view Twitter via Google Chrome.
when I bought my Windows 8 laptop, I liked the Windows photos app which was default to view photos.
The main feature I liked in that was a slideshow feature which shows collection of pics in a single frame similar to this.
Attachment 42179
(for better understanding I attached image of win 8.1 lock screen slideshow) Then I installed Windows 8.1 (i choose the option to keep old Windows settings, Apps) and I disabled auto update for store apps.
However after updating I found that photos app along with other system apps were updated to latest version and the feature which I loved was missing. When I press slideshow it just shows 1 image per frame.
how to downgrade my photos app to older version? Or how to install the old photos app in Windows 8.1 I have the files took from WindowsApps hidden folder.
i have 12 endless... pending apps in windows store i have reset windows store properties, etc. still nothing
View 5 Replies View RelatedMaybe it's just me that this annoys but i hope there is a setting that can be changed to fix it. In Windows 8/8.1 if you try to open an app that is already open it does nothing.
Example:
1. Click start >> Type MSTSC >> Press Enter and connect to a remote computer/server.
2. Do the same again (not on the remote computer/server) >> you will notice after hitting Enter that it doesn't open the Remote Desktop dialogue.
It will either go back to the desktop or open the original remote connection. It is the same with any application (Excel, Word...)
It didn't work that way in 7, it would open a new instance of that application is there any way to change this?
Windows 8.1 x64
There are some programs that when I install them appear to hang when they're most of the way through the install. A current example is Hotspot Shield.
I've unregistered and reregistered MSIexec, to no effect. I've run sfg/scannow and the system integrity is 100%. When I check the process it appears to be doing something, though so trivial as to be barely worth recording, so I have to assume it's not hung, unless it's marking time. It's certainly not waiting on a write queue.
I have build my Windows 8.1 machine recently. And I have installed multiple applications such as Adobe Acrobat Readers, and MS Office on it.
I have a strange problem happening when I restarted my PC this morning. All application that I installed have completely disappeared. I cant even find them in Control Panel under Programs and Application.
The computer instead of asking me to login using my live account, asked me to login as local user this morning, and when I login again using Live Account, ALL installed APPS are gone and machine went back to out-of-box stage.
I click on them but they won't launch. A blank grey screen appears after trying to launch them. Words near the bottom of tile say "Microsoft.WindowsLive.Mail", "Microsoft.WindowsLive.Calendar" and "Microsoft.WindowsLive.People".

How to manually remove gtalk icons from Apps desktop.
Some of my applications launch smaller than others. As seen in the picture the blackberry link is normal sized and the aio remote and the bitdefender are both much smaller.
