Anyone else get this?
I have a new Dell Inspiron 14Z running windows 7 pro 64bit and i'm using Microsoft office 2010. I'm trying to retrieve archived emails that i backed up on an external hard drive from a previous computer, the files are .pst which is an outlook format but i keep on getting an error message saying the file is not an Outlook data file (.pst). i dont have any other way to retrieve these emails since they were deleted from the server and its about 1.5 years of work emails. Not sure what to do? should i move the files from the external driver to a different location on the computer and open them, or are they corrupted and need to be fixed?

View 7 Replies View RelatedNot sure what happened, but starting this afternoon, Explorer 9 (released version via automatic update) will not open a link in a new tab, nor will it open that line into a new explorer window.Looked at multiple complaints and fixes for this, none worked (including the scripts). recent automatic windows 7 update to "allow further updates", I used firefox for the first time - note did not set it as the default, there was a java update and an adobe update. This machine is windows 7 sp1, completely updated 64bit home premium system. Turned off all the add ons, restarted - didn't fix it. Tried the script for the same problem, that didn't work. All the resetting has done, is removed the tool bars I like to use and it still doesn't work.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI just installed Office 10 student version. After trouble shooting error 2203 and finally being able to successfully install this program, my IE9 is not working right. When I seach on Yahoo, say I open up microsoft window and want to click on Support and Help, a new tab opens with nothing in it. It will not load the link I am asking for in a new tab.
I have tried to put back the steps of trouble shooting the error 2203 that I had to change in order to install Office 10 Student version however the links still will not open in a new tab.
I am using Win 7 Pro, and Explorer 9 with Google. If I click on a link anywhere (in search results or a web page like this site) nothing happens. The only way I can open a link is to copy the shortcut and paste it in the address bar.I have Enable Tabbed Browsing checked.I have tried all of the Open links from other programs in.I searched here for this problem and found one, but it was for Win9 and the steps wouldn't work with my Win 7.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to make a link on the desktop, or elsewhere, and when opened, to open it with a specific program rather then the default? Specifically, I use FF as my default browser, but I would like to use IE for a couple specific links. I know I can just open IE but it would be convenient to create an icon/link on the desktop to the location, and when opened, to be opened by IE rather then the default program for that extension (FF).I just realized that I could make another extension, a new one not used by any program, and just make that extension opened by IE by default then rename the link on the desktop, I think that would work, but is there a way to edit the link and tell it specifically what program to use when clicked rather then the default?

View 1 Replies View RelatedOn a fresh boot, after my desktop loads but before I launch any browsing/email/internet applications, I notice I have two or three instances of iexplore.exe running in the list of active processes. Does this seem "normal" for Windows 7, or should I be concerned that iexplore.exe is running even when I have not launched IE?
(Windows 7 x64). Browser is IE8, but Firefox & Chrome are also installed.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and Microsoft Home and Office 2010. Everything was working fine yesterday, but when I came back to work today and attempted to open Outlook 2010, I instantly received a message saying: "Outlook failed to launch in safe mode. Do you want to start repair?" If you try to open it again, it opens a second process of OUTLOOK.EXE*32 in the Task Manager. Here is what I've already tried to do while troubleshooting:
- Restarted the computer
- Performed a MS Office Repair, it completed, rebooted (Did this twice)
- Uninstalled MS Office 2010, rebooted, reinstalled it, rebooted, but same problem occurred
- Verified that the other Office programs work (Word, Excel, etc)
- Tried to run "outlook.exe /resetnavpane"
I'm currently stumped at the moment. I cannot even access the profiles through Control Panel > Mail.
Some of the Office 2010 applications (access, outlook, etc.) cannot be opened. I get a message saying that I need to install IE 3.00/4.00 or later, although I have IE 9 installed.
View 5 Replies View RelatedFo the last few days, Internet explorer stops working all of the time. When this happens, no desktop icons work. Sometimes, I am not allowed to close the instances with task manager as it says operationdenied.Malwarebytes returns 0 issues. I tried MS safety scanner and that also found nothing.I assume there is a virus or trojan at work here but I really don't know what else to do

View 6 Replies View RelatedAnyone noticed that IE8 runs multiple iexplore.exe in Task Manager?
And by the way did you notice IE8 behaves differently in that respect when installed on WindowsXP as opposed to Windows 7?
WindowsXP copies of iexplore can use up to 50,000K and every copy uses quite a bit of memory.
Windows 7 copies of iexplore only use about 5-15K.
While using IE8 in WindowsXP I thought I had a malware program running by it using so much memory and exhausted myself trying to run all kinds of scans to root out the offending program only to realize it was IE8 itself. When I uninstalled IE8 and went back to IE7, the behavior stopped.
Just something interesting that might save others the frantic search to root out adware. I suppose the bottom line is DO NOT USE IE8 on WinXP.
At first, my Ofc Outlook 2003 worked fine. Then occasionally i couldn't open an existing calendar event or create a new one. Now I never can. A shadow icon appears in the task bar bearing the title ofthe msg I am trying to open, but I can only close it down, not display the window for editing. Email and other functions work fine. And I can delete existing calendar events fine.I tried to follow suggestions made to Zack on Jan 13 and when i was setting up the new profile I noticed I cd not find a 'Personal Folder' compatible with 03 to send my msgs to.The range was limited to '97 thru '02.
