Dec 28, 2010I recently upgraded my video card from a 4890 to a 6970. I loaded all the drivers and stuff. Now Aero is off and won't turn back on. When I run the Aero troubleshooter, it results in a "A problem is preventing the troubleshooter from starting" message. The Windows Experience Index is also not working. When I try to run or refresh it, I get a message "Could not measure video playback performance". I tried searching the web, but had no luck.

Everything is working great in XP. After installing video drivers in windows 7, the wizards asks for restart. When i restart windows 7 hangs just after the "starting windows" logo, just at the welcome screen. It is not random, everytime it freezes at the same point. The system hangs and the display is just horizontal garbage lines and I need to hard reset the CPU. Without the video drivers, windows 7 works fine.
Things I tried:
1. Drivers from Motherboard CD/DVD.
2. Drivers from Gigabyte Website.
3. Drivers from Intel Website.
4. Changed the SATA mode to AHCI/IDE in BIOS. XP wont boot in AHCI.
5. XP shows Intel 2000 processor graphics. CPUZ tool in windows 7 shows Intel 1000-T.

Any Reason For Installing Video Drivers Before Windows Updates?
May 16, 2012I am building a new computer and have all the parts except for my video card (gtx 670 when it comes in stock...). Now, I have heard that I shouldn't do windows updates before installing the drivers for my video card. However, if I go ahead and set everything up except for my video card and let windows update do its thing - will there be any problems for me when I can finally buy my video card and install it?

Randomly (for example: while surfing the internet), on Windows 7, the computer crashes with a screen with blue and grey vertical stripes (or sometimes totally grey or black). Sometimes this screen "hides" a BSoD, sometimes it doesn't. The system crashes only if video drivers are installed. On Ubuntu 11.04 (64-bit) and Windows XP (32bit), even after installing the drivers, there are no crashes. From BlueScreenView, all crashes look identical.
I tried:
- 2 passes of Memtest86+: 0 issues
- Installing Windows 7 and then ONLY the video drivers: CRASH
- Installing XP 32-bit SP2 and the drivers: does not crash
- Using Ubuntu 11.04 64-bit: does not crash
- Uninstalling the drivers: does not crash
- Safe mode: does not crash (obviously)
BSOD Streaming Video And Installing Game (Specifically, Blizzard)?
May 11, 2012I began seeing a blue screen about 5 months ago when I first got my computer, and after posting here with one BSOD report, I was informed of the fact that Avast Virus scanning software could be the culprit. After uninstalling the software, I no longer received the problem. 5 months later, the issue has come back. I've recently installed Fraps and Adobe Premiere Pro CS 5.5 on my machine. I saw the BSOD appear once again 2 days ago and it seems to appear while streaming video and installing a game. I also see my machine hard-lock while streaming video from time to time, but I think the BSOD does not officially trigger, so hard-locking is the result.

Oct 31, 2012Recently started having an issue where once windows login screen comes up I can hear beeping coming from my case. Then once I try to login I can hear hard drive try to spin up and system will freeze every time I hear hard drive spin up (every 5-15 seconds) during login. Sometimes this persists, sometimes it goes away within a few minutes and the system runs fine but I can still hear beeping from inside the case. Other times I get either a complete lockup, a BSOD, or the computer restarts itself without any warning.
I don't have any of these issues until I install graphics drivers.
-I've tried testing memory in windows memory diagnostics w/ 4 passes it came back w/ no errors. -I tried a clean install which runs fine until I install graphics drivers(I've tried multiple different versions all have the same issue) -I tried installing a new hard drive but am still having the same issues.
I've tried to listen where the beeping is coming from but I'm having a hard time isolating it. It's fairly short, rapid and somewhat faint.

CD/DVD And Video Problems On Laptop
Jun 7, 2011I am having with my wife�s Samsung R610 laptop, running Windows 7. The first indication of a problem was when my wife commented that videos (whether attached to emails or accessed from websites) were slow to open.
After a weekend trying a number of strategies to solve this (installing codec updates, VLC, Media Player Classic, etc) I have come to the conclusion there are a number of problems which may or may not be related. I shall describe the symptoms and hope that someone can see a common denominator and hopefully point me in the right direction.As mentioned, video files (regardless of what format they are) are very difficult to view.
However, they will sometimes play with good sound and vision and synchronisation, so proving that the media player software and the video hardware are not fatally flawed. The Laptop has a combined DVD/CD player/burner but no matter what disc is put in, AutoPlay does not give any indication the disc is recognised. (My) Computer shows the disc (whether it is a DVD, CD, data or movie) yet as soon as I try to open/explore or read the disc in any way, (My) Computer stops responding. Any attempt to close (My) Computer via Ctrl+Alt+Del fails and it takes forever to close the application.
At one stage, having put an audio CD in the drive, I left the computer to have lunch and after about 15 minutes the audio was heard, the disk playing as normal. However the moment I paused Play and tried to restart it Media Player would no longer work for me. Device Manager shows no conflicts, and the CD/DVD player is reportedly using the up to date driver and working properly. Attempts to burn data files to a blank CD also fail and Computer locks up!
My wife did remind me however that ever since the laptop was new (with Vista installed) there has always been a problem using the DVD/CD burner - I had forgotten! At one stage I was on the point of going out to buy a new DVD/CD unit but since the one in the laptop does on occasion work as intended
TV Not Detecting Laptop From S-Video
Nov 26, 2009When I was running windows vista, I could display my laptop on my TV with no issues. After installing windows 7, the TV does not detect any input. I tried pressing Fn F8, and windows P and the laptop says its switching dispays but the TV does not react. I just updated my NVidia drivers. Any ideas?

Mar 31, 2011This is on a fairly new HP G72 running Win7/64. A soft drink was spilled on the keyboard, system ran fine after cleaning it up, then performed a scan and found malware. Removed the malware, rebooted and system boots to user logon no problem. After you log in, the screen flashes white for several seconds, then goes black/white quickly and then all black: no cursor, no nothing. A few seconds later you hear the Windows startup song.Connect an external monitor and you see the desktop perfectly. System shows no problem with driver, all settings look good, system can see both an LCD screen and the external as disply devices. Use the Fn-F4 key to cycle througn video outputs and it goes blank-blank-external. Once you get past the logon screen in Normal mode the LCD goes blank but the external VGA works a treat!Boot into BIOS, let it run 15 minutes and never lose the display. Boot into the Recovery Console and let it set and poke around for 15 minutes and it never lose the display. Boot to Safe mode and poke around for 15 minutes and never lose the display. Boot to Normal mode and after you logon the screen goes black but with the external VGA working perfectly.
Uninstall the video drive (Intel HD), delete the driver on the system and boot into Normal mode: the LCD works perfectly, no problems other than 800x600 resolution and 256 colors. Install the latest & greatest video driver for the system from HP, reboot to Normal mode and the screen goes blank after logon but the VGA still works great. In frustration I do a destructive restore, taking the system back to new-out-of-the-box condition and still get the same problem.Only thing I haven't done yet is a HDD reformat and OS reinstall from recovery discs. Trying to avoid that so I don't lose the recovery partition. Don't know if this is a rootkit/bootkit problem but my next step is to try rebuilding the MBR and BCD. If that doesn't work all I can think of is reformat/reload.Doesn't all this look like a software problem? I want to think it's hardware (remember the soft drink spill) but if the LCD video works in BIOS, and works in Recovery Console, and works in Safe mode but *only* fails in Normal mode with both the OEM and latest drivers, doesn't that really point to the OS?
Laptop Freezes When Playing Video?
Jun 20, 2012Just recently my laptop has been freezing during video playback. The audio stutters or runs out of sync with the video, the video becomes grainy and jumping 3 or 4 seconds at a time. Just generally struggles to cope with the file. It varies as to how long this takes to kick in. Some times it's half way through a film, sometimes within a few seconds. Once it starts everything is painfully slow and I have to reboot. I've also noticed it takes much longer to reboot sometimes.
I checked in my programs and the Adobe Plug-in had an "X" over it so I uninstalled and then re-installed, thinking I'd found the issue, but it's still the same.
I've run AVG to look for viruses and also cleaned up the registry and so forth with other software but the problem remains. It only starts though when I run video files, this is what seems to start it.

Feb 19, 2012I have a HP-DV6-6050 laptop, bought it last august. It was running fine up until a month or two ago. I don't recall what I did but I think it was the time I installed Dragon Age: Origins. Either way, I noticed some problems since then. Firstly it became very slow...even deleting files took longer than usual even of size 18 bytes.Programs and folder would take time to launch.
Secondly, which is a big headache, audio and video files now get stuck every 3-5 seconds while playing them. It is there evn in VLC player. I tried defragging, some kind of a memory test through diagnostic startup, and even returned the system to factory settings. Sometimes it seems to get better.. but only for a while. Also, the graphic card switching mechanism seems to be a bit buggy. When I plug in the power source, the dialog box to switch the graphic card doesn't appear.

If i connect an external monitor or projector i can see everything right from the very beginning on the external monitor such as the TOSHIBA POST and the starting wndows etc. When the login screen appears the dispaly from the external monitor dissappears and the dispaly returns to my laptop screen after which everything is normal.
Aero Lag On A Dual-video Card Laptop?
Jul 29, 2012I'm running it on my HP Pavilion g6, which has a Intel Core i3 processor@2.3 ghz, 4 gb RAM and both an ATI Radeon HD7670 and an Intel HD 3000 series video card.So the problem is that the aero effects are kinda laggy, for example when using the windows key+tab or when shuffling around the elements in the start menu. I know there is an option to select which video card runs a certain application( Configure switchable graphics), but how can i canfigure it so the windows uses the faster ATI card, rather than the Intel one?
EDIT: I also forgot to add that all the drivers are the newest versions.
