I'm trying to install the Sapphire ATI Radeon X1800 XT graphics card, however, when I place it in the PCIe slot, I don't get any video. The card only has two DVI outputs. The mother board is a Gigabyte ga-k8n51gmf-9 with an Nvidia 6100 integrated graphics. I can get a signal with VGA off the on board graphics, and I disable it, then try and install the new card and I don't get any signal from either the card, or the VGA output (Integrated). When I take the card out, I get a signal from the VGA again...Also, the CMOS battery had to be replaced. I'm wondering what settings need to be changed. Its an Award BIOS F7.

So I have a headset that runs audio through a 3.5mm cable and gets power from the USB, but the audio is coming through the USB instead of the 3.5mm and sounding terrible. How would I change this from outputting through USB and instead have it through the 3.5.

I cannot hear any sound from my PC, I tried connecting through both the front panel and the back panel to no avail.I however did notice that the only panel option available on Realtek HD seems to be the Realtek HD Audio rear output and that doesn't work. It's quite frustrating because I can't hear any sound from my computer even when I used a headphone.
1. how do I change from Realtek HD Audio rear output ie back panel to front panel?
2. is there anything else I should do?

Was not sure where to post this but does kinda come under networking to some aspect.
I have a laptop with a VGA output.I have a PC which has 2xDVI outputs. I also have a VGA -> DVI output cable.
I can connect the 2 just find BUT how can I view the output of the PC to the laptop? So instead of having another monitor/display unit, I want the laptop to be able to see the output from the PC as if the PC were connected to a display unit.

I've been asked to take a look at my mother's laptop. A 10lb medicine ball fell/rolled onto the keyboard. The computer in question is an ASUS G72G laptop running Windows 7 Home 64bit. The sound symbol in the task bar has a red, circular X mark on it and says "No Audio Output Device Installed". I've tried downloading and installing the audio driver from this site but it tells me that this version of Windows is not supported, though I know for certain that this version of windows matches the driver listed:f anyone has an idea as to the underlying cause of this problem, I'd very happy to hear it. I know it seems like a hardware problem, but I'm wondering if it could have hit any function keys or something to disable the sound, as I've been told that some sort of message popped up immediately about the mouse or something, but I wasn't there and don't really know exactly what it said

I've recently purchased a Samsung T23A750 monitor and to my disappointment when I try to watch a movie the built in speakers are not functioning. I have a Sony Vaio Z216GX connected via HDMI to the monitor (HDMI-DVI) port. I can definitely see the video, but no audio is playing from the speakers. The built in speakers are not at fault- I did a self-diagnosis of the monitor and the speakers seem to work fine. I also set the monitor as the default for the audio and even when Win 7 says its functioning properly, the speakers still don't work. Conversely, setting the default to my PC speakers work fine. I'm sure its not the HDMI cable- I used the same one to hook my pc to my tv with everything working fine.

I'm just posting here because there are these video files which the title of the file is different to the 'name' of the file which appears below the icon. Although not the end of the world, it is annoying since when I put the files on my external HDD to play through my PS3 and that shows the title and as they all have the same title I can't tell what I am watching.

I have looked all over the internet for an answer to this problem, but I cannot find one. You see, in my setup menu (or rather the BIOS? I don't really know. The thing that you press F2 for after seeing "acer" or "DELL") there is no video options tab. Just, if I remember correctly, "information, Security, Boot, Exit", and one other thing that shows the time, date, and total RAM. I cannot however highlight total RAM or video RAM (I have about 120 MB of VRAM, 4GB of total). So how do I change shared video memory if there is no video tab? I'm looking to boost performance (even if it's only by a little bit) in games. I'm willing to share more PC info, just ask

I took some cell phone videos in the portrait position recently which translates to showing only in the horizontal position in MM or whatever editing software I have. Unlike pics, I can't find a plug in or software that will let me flip it from that horizontal to vertical (portrait) position.

I want to change my dedicated video memory because in my laptop total available graphic memory is 762MB, but to dedicated video memory just 64 MB and in shared system memory 698MB. like that, maybe I can change the dedicated video memory until 128MB or anything.

who is away at college troubleshoot something. She has a Sony VAIO laptop running Windows 7. A couple weeks ago the CPU fan broke, and the computer started shutting down after short times due to thermal issues. The computer would work fine, but then shut itself down as the CPU and case heated up.She had that fixed - just had the fan replaced - and got the computer back, but now she gets a message - and I am only going by her hearsay; I can't touch the laptop myself because she's at college - saying there is no audio output device. My hunch is that in taking the laptop apart and reassembling it to replace the fan, the sound was not reconnected to the MB (if that's even where sound comes from, sorry for the ignorance).

I am having with my wifes Samsung R610 laptop, running Windows 7. The first indication of a problem was when my wife commented that videos (whether attached to emails or accessed from websites) were slow to open.
After a weekend trying a number of strategies to solve this (installing codec updates, VLC, Media Player Classic, etc) I have come to the conclusion there are a number of problems which may or may not be related. I shall describe the symptoms and hope that someone can see a common denominator and hopefully point me in the right direction. As mentioned, video files (regardless of what format they are) are very difficult to view.
However, they will sometimes play with good sound and vision and synchronisation, so proving that the media player software and the video hardware are not fatally flawed. The Laptop has a combined DVD/CD player/burner but no matter what disc is put in, AutoPlay does not give any indication the disc is recognised. (My) Computer shows the disc (whether it is a DVD, CD, data or movie) yet as soon as I try to open/explore or read the disc in any way, (My) Computer stops responding. Any attempt to close (My) Computer via Ctrl+Alt+Del fails and it takes forever to close the application.
At one stage, having put an audio CD in the drive, I left the computer to have lunch and after about 15 minutes the audio was heard, the disk playing as normal. However the moment I paused Play and tried to restart it Media Player would no longer work for me. Device Manager shows no conflicts, and the CD/DVD player is reportedly using the up to date driver and working properly. Attempts to burn data files to a blank CD also fail and Computer locks up!
My wife did remind me however that ever since the laptop was new (with Vista installed) there has always been a problem using the DVD/CD burner - I had forgotten! At one stage I was on the point of going out to buy a new DVD/CD unit but since the one in the laptop does on occasion work as intended

This is on a fairly new HP G72 running Win7/64. A soft drink was spilled on the keyboard, system ran fine after cleaning it up, then performed a scan and found malware. Removed the malware, rebooted and system boots to user logon no problem. After you log in, the screen flashes white for several seconds, then goes black/white quickly and then all black: no cursor, no nothing. A few seconds later you hear the Windows startup song.Connect an external monitor and you see the desktop perfectly. System shows no problem with driver, all settings look good, system can see both an LCD screen and the external as disply devices. Use the Fn-F4 key to cycle througn video outputs and it goes blank-blank-external. Once you get past the logon screen in Normal mode the LCD goes blank but the external VGA works a treat!Boot into BIOS, let it run 15 minutes and never lose the display. Boot into the Recovery Console and let it set and poke around for 15 minutes and it never lose the display. Boot to Safe mode and poke around for 15 minutes and never lose the display. Boot to Normal mode and after you logon the screen goes black but with the external VGA working perfectly.
Uninstall the video drive (Intel HD), delete the driver on the system and boot into Normal mode: the LCD works perfectly, no problems other than 800x600 resolution and 256 colors. Install the latest & greatest video driver for the system from HP, reboot to Normal mode and the screen goes blank after logon but the VGA still works great. In frustration I do a destructive restore, taking the system back to new-out-of-the-box condition and still get the same problem.Only thing I haven't done yet is a HDD reformat and OS reinstall from recovery discs. Trying to avoid that so I don't lose the recovery partition. Don't know if this is a rootkit/bootkit problem but my next step is to try rebuilding the MBR and BCD. If that doesn't work all I can think of is reformat/reload.Doesn't all this look like a software problem? I want to think it's hardware (remember the soft drink spill) but if the LCD video works in BIOS, and works in Recovery Console, and works in Safe mode but *only* fails in Normal mode with both the OEM and latest drivers, doesn't that really point to the OS?

Just recently my laptop has been freezing during video playback. The audio stutters or runs out of sync with the video, the video becomes grainy and jumping 3 or 4 seconds at a time. Just generally struggles to cope with the file. It varies as to how long this takes to kick in. Some times it's half way through a film, sometimes within a few seconds. Once it starts everything is painfully slow and I have to reboot. I've also noticed it takes much longer to reboot sometimes.
I checked in my programs and the Adobe Plug-in had an "X" over it so I uninstalled and then re-installed, thinking I'd found the issue, but it's still the same.
I've run AVG to look for viruses and also cleaned up the registry and so forth with other software but the problem remains. It only starts though when I run video files, this is what seems to start it.

which is a toshiba l750-0dp. i have downloaded a program called latencymon which basically looks at what processes are causing the highest page fault resolution time. so the service thats causing the most pfr is ndis.sys, apparently this is related to the network drivers and also tcpip.sys causes the same issue. i have downloaded a few drivers from my manufacturer's website trying to fix the issue to no avail. it would come up every now and then after using my computer for a minutes. like 30 mins in to it, even if im just browsing the net watching Internet or that sort of type of things. i also noticed that there is a big spike of lag on modern warfare 3 now which never used to happen, as i have been using the computer for 7 months now this just suddenly came out of the blue.
