I have a dell diminsion 4600 and have an agp 8x slot open. What card can i put in it for under 100 bucks? I would like to have a 256 mb card if possible and i have a 500watt power supply also.

I have a Dell Dimension 4600 and recently had a clean install of Windows 7 done by a large box store (I won't list names at this point). They told me that the system was compatible however, when I got it home and several hundred dollars later, we have no sound. I am a little techy, but have not been able to locate a driver to work, The store has been unresponsive since they have been paid.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI installed a clean version of windows 7 ultimate and everything seemed to run fine for a few weeks, then I started getting messages saying that the display driver has crashed and recovered.So I went to the nvidia site and downloaded the drivers for my graphic card, but now sometimes the computer completely freezes up, making me manually power down and restart the computer again.I uninstalled the nvidia drivers from their site, but I still get the freeze up nearly every day.I also have the yellow exclamation mark under other devices video controller in device manager, and can't find a driver for it.

Windows 7 installed fine but did not fix monitor problem--had to repeatedly restart computer to get to dos repair.
After hours of online research finally discovered the following link for ATI Radeon video card driver. It is a Vista driver but works in Windows 7. Be sure to download driver that works with your system configuration.

I own a dell demension 4600 also i have upgraded the ram to 4 gigs, the cpu to 3.02, a nvidia geForce 6200 agp graphics card, i know i will be needing a sound card, what would you recommend. What i am looking to do is install windows 7 home premium. I seem to have all of the necessary hardware to do this install. Will I need to purchase a new copy of windows 7 home premium. I already own several other computers with windows 7 running on them. I was just wondering if it will work like when I pop an XP disc in a pc and it just lets me install windows. If its going to cost me more than 150 I would rather just let this pc live out its lifespan running what it currently is. But I don't mind overcoming a few hurdles to install 7 as long as it is not going to get too costly and the troubleshooting becomes too time consuming.

The old dead monitor was replaced by a Samsung S20B300B 20" 16x9 LCD whose native resolution is 1600x900. However the old onboard Intel i845g GPU graphics chip in the 4500S (82845G) is supported by old drivers that do not have a 1600x900 resolution option. There is one pretty close rectangular resolution available, 1280x768 but it's a bit cartoonish.

I downloaded the drivers from the Dell website, and figured it would solve my problem of not being able to change the resolution. It didn't.

I have a little hardware problem with my dell, So when the computer is on for (like 4 hours) and when the cpu reaches like 70 a 100% cpu usage the computer is making a weird 'Vwrrrrrrr' noise. the normal noise (when it is just on) is a quiet noise I think it's the fan that makes that noise but I'm not 100% sure so what can it be for sure ? Is the fan broken or should I give it a new layer of thermal paste ??

Window 7 has better security features that I want to help deal with these problems.Unfortunately, once I reformated the drive and install Window 7 there is no longer any sound from the computer.
