When monitor started crashing in XP Professional (up to that point --great operating system) couldn't find any upgrade for Radeon Display Adapter driver so decided to upgrade to Windows 7-surely updated driver included. Windows 7 installed fine but did not fix monitor problem--had to repeatedly restart computer to get to dos repair.
After hours of online research finally discovered the following link for ATI Radeon video card driver. It is a Vista driver but works in Windows 7. Be sure to download driver that works with your system configuration.
ATI Catalyst? Legacy Display Driver Vista - 32-Bit Edition
I updated my Dell to Windows 7 last night and I realized that I don't have any sound drivers or cards. I have been Googling for about 3 hours now without any luck.

I am on an Acer Aspire M5100 desktop that came with Vista 32x preinstalled. I bought a ATI Radeon HD 4550 months ago that worked fine on Vista. I wanted to install Windows 7 64x Home Premium, so I bought a copy through Microsoft, created a boot disk, removed all non-original components (including graphics card), and did a clean install. I installed all my additional hardware and everything worked fine until my graphics card.
When I installed my graphics card, I downloaded the most up to date drivers (I got the link from this site), and rebooted. Upon reboot, my BIOS load, Windows starts to load, and then I get a blue screen. The blue screen flashes by so quick I can't read what they're saying. Then my computer restarts, and we start over again (blue screen cycle).
So I reconnected to the onboard gpu, and it started. Then I went into the Device manager, and uninstalled the old driver. Reinstalled my Radeon 4550, and current drivers, rebooted, nothing. Tried reinstalling windows 7, this time, removing old drivers first, than installing. Still nothing. This happens every time I enable the video card and then reboot.
I'm a noob so I've searched this site up and down. I've heard that maybe I need to update my BIOS. So I went to Acer.com to download the BIOs, and they don't have any listed for my PC.
With that said, I'm at my wits end. If anybody has any thoughts on what to do next, I truly appreciate it.
I have a dell diminsion 4600 and have an agp 8x slot open. What card can i put in it for under 100 bucks? I would like to have a 256 mb card if possible and i have a 500watt power supply also.

I have a Dell Dimension 5150 which runs XP Home and is 3 years old. I pre-ordered Windows 7 but the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor says my onboard graphics adapter won't support the Windows Aero User Interface. I don't play games on my PC but I would like all the fancy visual features of Windows 7. How do I go about choosing a graphics card that will do the job for me?
I can't install Win 7 on my PC Dell XPS420.I tried many times but not successfull! I have install last version of BIOS (A07). Installation goes as normal bu Windows can't finished installation.Black screen displays long time I tried both upgrade (from Vista HOme Premiun) and andvanced option full new installation on new partition.
I have a toshiba 1920 by 1080 screen that I have hooked up to my dimension. My problem is that it wont let me go any higher then 640 480 and its not using the whole screen.
I have a Dell Dimensions 2400 purchased in 2005. Can I install Windows 7? The thing is running very slow and I was wondering if it would be better to do a clean install of Windows 7 or just reinstall windows xp
Three years ago I gave my wife my Dimension 4700 (520, 2GB ram, XFX 9600GT video, XP Pro). For her use of internet news research, MSN games, online banking/shopping and email, it's fine for her. I was toying with trying Windows 7 on there because I've heard other folks talk about successfully installing it on older hardware. Anyone done this on a 4700?
I can ghost her machine and try 7 from my MSDN, the return to the original image if it fails. Just wanted to save the grief if someone else has tried it already.
I am having a sound problem as in no sound at all is playing, I dont know how to find what sound drivers I need or how to get them. Help? Thanks.
Also the sound was working just a week ago. I dont know what has happened. The same thing happened when I first installed but then one day I woke up and the problem was miraculously fixed.
I am running 32 bit Windows 7 Beta Build 7000 on a Dell Dimension 8400
I installed a clean version of windows 7 ultimate and everything seemed to run fine for a few weeks, then I started getting messages saying that the display driver has crashed and recovered. So I went to the nvidia site and downloaded the drivers for my graphic card, but now sometimes the computer completely freezes up, making me manually power down and restart the computer again.I uninstalled the nvidia drivers from their site, but I still get the freeze up nearly every day.I also have the yellow exclamation mark under other devices video controller in device manager, and can't find a driver for it.
I have a little hardware problem with my dell, So when the computer is on for (like 4 hours) and when the cpu reaches like 70 a 100% cpu usage the computer is making a weird 'Vwrrrrrrr' noise. the normal noise (when it is just on) is a quiet noise I think it's the fan that makes that noise but I'm not 100% sure so what can it be for sure ? Is the fan broken or should I give it a new layer of thermal paste ??
Has any tried to install Windows 7 on a dell dimension 3000? Any driver issues, or compatability issues? I am going to do some testing and this is the only test computer I have. It does have 2 gigs of Ram.
I would like to load Windows 7 Home Premium onto my Dell Dimension 5000 that is running XP but my c drive wont let things start. I have backed everything up followed the instructions but stop at part 1 of the 3 part install.
I decided to install Windows 7 on to my kids Dell Dimension 5100 which had been xp base, as they tend to pick up a lot of adware-malware in the kiddie sites they go to. Window 7 has better security features that I want to help deal with these problems.Unfortunately, once I reformated the drive and install Window 7 there is no longer any sound from the computer. As I search the Dell website, it turns out they didn't have device drivers listed for Window 7 for the 5100 devices. At this point, I don't know what to do; do I have to revert back to xp which means I picked up window 7 for nothing...verything else seem to be working okay, so do I have to pick up a new sound card?...or would the device company provide a win 7 driver in time?
I had win7 installed on dell dimension E520 which worked fine. Hard drive crashed replaced with Seagate Baracuda 2terabyte, and now win 7 goes thru all install process only to end up saying setup can not be installed on this computer. No reason, no clues, nothing. I've done this 3 times with same results.
I bought the HD Radeon 7870 DD a few weeks ago, and i've been having a very frustrating problem. I will be playing a game, any game (not a high end game) and the screen will freeze, go black, and then come back on with the message on the lines of "Display Driver has stopped responding and has recovered"?
So im having the strangest issue with my graphics card. I had it installed and fine for about a year now and suddenly it started having issues with Borderlands 2 where the card will literally just cut off right after the game add's and just before i can select to load game. The strange thing is the sound from the game will still play so i know the system itself is still running. I tested the temp's on gpu and cpu both of which are under 70c, i tried reinstalling windows and immediately installing amd drivers and running a game, it does the same thing.
I am using win XP and had to wipe. I was missing various drivers so I got them off the Dell site. Seems installation order is important, so I think I followed the correct order (tried multiple orders when was still missing a network controller). I have all installed except the wireless controller.
I am able to use internet via ethernet hard wire but can't find the controller for wireless. I used a driver elvaluation site to get the controller I need, but when I downloaded the controller from this site and going directly to the manufacturers site, there isn't an executable file to load the driver. Any suggestions?
Dell Dimension 8400 Win XP Home edition 2002 SP3 Intel Pentium 4 CPU, 3.4GHz 512 MB Ram
I just installed Windows 7 RC 7100 (a fresh install) on a Dell Dimension 3000 PC (33 GB HD, 2.8 GHZ processor, 1.25 GB SDRAMM) which I bought used. I believe the PC is a few years old. I always set the 23 inch CRT screen to a 32 bit, 1024 X 768 resolution.
The Screen Resolution window has no drop down menu, as shown in the help screen shots -- its frozen at one setting (around 468 X 600). When I go to Advanced Options, then Monitor settings, I can get a choice of resolutions, but all except a 468 resolution at 16 bits horribly pixilate the screen image.
I've never had any problem with desired settings from this PC when using XP. I also found that the PC's hardware doesn't support Aero -- could the video card or a driver be the problem?
I bought a second hand Dell Dimension 3000 running Windows 7. I have no sound. The drivers are installed in Device Manager (Realtec AC'97), and also (Uniplex Half Modem) both under sound, video controllers. There are no exclamation marks in device manager. All drivers are up to date. Dell diagnostic and Microsoft Fix it both say everything is ok. There is no sound from internal speaker. I tried external speakers via green jack at back & front of machine but there is no option to select these speakers. If I try to play music then nothing happens. When I access the sound option there is a green 'equalizer bar' which goes up and down to tell music is playing...but I can't hear anything. I have checked and mute is not selected-volume is set to 100%. I opened the machine and behind the jack plug seems to be closed with no removable parts. I downloaded the latest Audio Driver from Dell but it says its not compatible with my OS.
I have a Dell Dimension 9200 and have upgraded to Window 7 32bit. When I had Vista install, 4 GB of ram was the max the system would recognise. Now that I am Windows 7 can I up grade my ram over 4 GB?
