Graphics Card Upgrade For Dell Dimension 5150
Nov 13, 2009
I have a Dell Dimension 5150 which runs XP Home and is 3 years old. I pre-ordered Windows 7 but the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor says my onboard graphics adapter won't support the Windows Aero User Interface. I don't play games on my PC but I would like all the fancy visual features of Windows 7. How do I go about choosing a graphics card that will do the job for me?

I have a Dell Dimension 2400 which has onboard graphics. I think the chip set is intel 845E.
Obvioulsy this isnt compatible with Windows 7.
Is there any way I can make this compatible or can some one tell me a PCI (not express) graphics card that is compatible with Windows 7.
Everything else works fine its just a shame the graphics card isnt compatible.

I had win7 installed on dell dimension E520 which worked fine. Hard drive crashed replaced with Seagate Baracuda 2terabyte, and now win 7 goes thru all install process only to end up saying setup can not be installed on this computer. No reason, no clues, nothing. I've done this 3 times with same results.

Do you recommend me the same graphics card? In the specs it has PCI and also PCI-Express slots.

When monitor started crashing in XP Professional (up to that point --great operating system) couldn't find any upgrade for Radeon Display Adapter driver so decided to upgrade to Windows 7-surely updated driver included. Windows 7 installed fine but did not fix monitor problem--had to repeatedly restart computer to get to dos repair.
After hours of online research finally discovered the following link for ATI Radeon video card driver. It is a Vista driver but works in Windows 7. Be sure to download driver that works with your system configuration.
ATI Catalyst? Legacy Display Driver Vista - 32-Bit Edition

I have a DELL D410 ultra portable laptop with a the famous Intel 915GM video adapter. Windows 7 recognize it and I am able to install the driver that I found in the INF folder. But after a restart I have 2 unrecognized VGA adapters.
It's really amazing because after driver installation, everything seems working, except may be aero that it is not supported by this adapter. But in device manager I have remarked that the driver is marked for uninstall which I never requested. Why Windows 7 wants to uninstall a device by its own while this one is working correctly?

i have just installed a fresh clean install of windows 7 on my dell xps 1530 laptop.I originally had windows xp on it which ran without no problems at all. So everything grand except for a couple of small problems which i was wondering if anybody on here knew of how to fix or even any forums or anything where id be better of asking the question.
Want to play a game of chess and as it loaded up i got a popup saying.."Hardware acceleration is either disabled or not supported by your video card driver. Make sure you have the latest video card driver and hardware acceleration is turned on".. Stil lets me play just not in the old style 2d way unlike the new glossy version on some vista machines ive seen.Watching you tube videos and everything else works grand though. Also gaming graphics and graphics in the performance info and tools index on windows is a 1.0 were as everything else is 5.5 or 6..I know my laptop had a proper nvidea gforce video card(think it was nvidea nforce) and also played football manager and the likes without a bother?
Have gone onto numerous websites and goggled everything but everything i download seems to say not suitable for this hardware or something along those lines?

I would try to find the resolution before posting, but Windows 7 doesn't recognize my graphics card and i forgot which one it is i had, so i couldn't search for the exact model amongst the forums.
I have a Dell XPS M1530 which came pre-installed with Windows Vista. When i upgraded a couple of days ago to Windows 7, most of my video games stopped working giving me errors that, after i looked them up, refer to problems with the graphics. I looked up solutions and most said to get the most recent driver.
I tried automatically updating the driver for my graphics card through the device manager, but it said i already have the best/most recent driver installed. My question is: How do i find out which graphics card i actually have (currently it says i have a Standard VGA Graphics Adapter), and where can i find the driver for it to get my games to work. Also, my report from the directx diagnostic tool returns the following (if this helps).

I have a Dell n5110 i5(intel HD 3000 graphics),that I bought last year to assist me with my studies. I didn't care much about the graphics when I purchased it.I'm not a hardcore gamer, but I read that I should have bought a laptop with a better card graphics if I was to play the latest games.Of all the games I would have liked to play GTA 4. I know its not possible with what I have. I intend to have it with me for a longtime even if I don't get to play the latest games(I can play older ones like Hitman blood money).I'm curious, since I haven't found the answer elsewhere, whether it is possible to have a gaming card graphics added one day for the model of laptop I have.
