View 2 RepliesI installed a clean version of windows 7 ultimate and everything seemed to run fine for a few weeks, then I started getting messages saying that the display driver has crashed and recovered. So I went to the nvidia site and downloaded the drivers for my graphic card, but now sometimes the computer completely freezes up, making me manually power down and restart the computer again.I uninstalled the nvidia drivers from their site, but I still get the freeze up nearly every day.I also have the yellow exclamation mark under other devices video controller in device manager, and can't find a driver for it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have recently loaded Windows 7 (Home Premium) on to a Dell Dimension 2400 (32 bit). Installation went smoothly but screen resolution is stuck at 480 x 640 which makes the computer practically unworkable. I understand (but am nor sure) that Dell does not support Windows 7 on this machine and the only solution is a new video card.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am installing Windows 7 on my parents computer. I just did a fresh install (not an upgrade) and ran into a problem.
I downloaded the drivers from the Dell website, and figured it would solve my problem of not being able to change the resolution. It didn't.
Now I am stuck. Is this computer just not able to handle Windows 7?

View 15 Replies View RelatedI decided to install Windows 7 on to my kids Dell Dimension 5100 which had been xp base, as they tend to pick up a lot of adware-malware in the kiddie sites they go to. Window 7 has better security features that I want to help deal with these problems.Unfortunately, once I reformated the drive and install Window 7 there is no longer any sound from the computer. As I search the Dell website, it turns out they didn't have device drivers listed for Window 7 for the 5100 devices. At this point, I don't know what to do; do I have to revert back to xp which means I picked up window 7 for nothing...verything else seem to be working okay, so do I have to pick up a new sound card?...or would the device company provide a win 7 driver in time?

View 4 Replies View RelatedWith Windows XP SP3 I was able to transmit audio which was digital and sometimes multi-channel to my Denon reciever through the HDMI output on my motherboard; I was also able to simultaneoulsy display my computer through that same HDMI connection through my Denon reciever and on to my my Toshibe LCD TV.But when I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit the HDMI audio was very limited (only 16 bit 2-channel @ 48,000 Hz) and can only select it when the reciever is on (which makes sense, but it's anoying to have to go into sound properties and switch to HDMI if I started the computer before the reciever, I hate technology trying to pretend it knows what I want it to do, it should just be able to do what it's told.) Then, when I turn on the TV this message comes up (which I would see when I was using XP but it didn't change anything)An HDMI-to-DVI display connection has been detected. In order to hear audio on your HDMI based TV or display, you will need to have a seperate audio conecction from you computer sound outputs to your TV or audio equipment. However I'm not using the DVI at all I just want to use the HDMI into HDMI because that's the way it's supposed to work because HDMI is supposed to handle both and I shouldn't need to use another cord when I'm already using one that does both. And so then my sound no longer works but my computer shows on my TV.Whoopdee doo! why can't I have both. HDMI is supposed to support both and when computer/motherboard/OS manufacturers put these technologies on computers you'd think they should commit to applying them flawlessly the way they were intended to be used.I understand this may be a driver issue and I've tried many combinations of the newest & the just HDMI Realtek Driver as well as the Gigabyte mother board drivers and the appropriate ATI/Catalyst driver/downloads.

View 9 Replies View RelatedThree years ago I gave my wife my Dimension 4700 (520, 2GB ram, XFX 9600GT video, XP Pro). For her use of internet news research, MSN games, online banking/shopping and email, it's fine for her. I was toying with trying Windows 7 on there because I've heard other folks talk about successfully installing it on older hardware. Anyone done this on a 4700?
I can ghost her machine and try 7 from my MSDN, the return to the original image if it fails. Just wanted to save the grief if someone else has tried it already.
I am having a sound problem as in no sound at all is playing, I dont know how to find what sound drivers I need or how to get them. Help? Thanks.

I am running 32 bit Windows 7 Beta Build 7000 on a Dell Dimension 8400
I have a little hardware problem with my dell, So when the computer is on for (like 4 hours) and when the cpu reaches like 70 a 100% cpu usage the computer is making a weird 'Vwrrrrrrr' noise. the normal noise (when it is just on) is a quiet noise I think it's the fan that makes that noise but I'm not 100% sure so what can it be for sure ? Is the fan broken or should I give it a new layer of thermal paste ??
