Apr 6, 2010I used XP Transfer Wizard to store my files (over 200GB) on external hard drive. Now I have Windows 7 machine and can't use them directly.I tried to use Virtual PC XP mode to import files but Virtual PC can only handle something around 136 GB virtual hard disk, so after 6 hours of transfer it stopped... I don't have the XP machine anymore - I'm stuck with Windows 7 and can't figure out how to move these files over..Is there a way to actually open all these Wizard IMGXXXXX.dat files and read them?

Aug 4, 2012I saved my files and settings from a previous installation of windows 7 to an external hard drive using windows easy transfer. Now when I try to transfer those files and setting to my new installation I get the following message:
Windows Easy Transfer can't transfer your files and settings.
The message pops up only a few seconds after the transfer begins.Why is this?! I need those files and windows has screwed me.Everything is basically the same as before I reinstalled. Same computer, same windows 7 installation just recovered to factory settings.Same system language as before.BTW I'm on a Toshiba L505 laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium.
I have tried all the usual suspects such as a clean boot and uninstalling my antivirus to rule out third party interference. I have more than enough space on both my computer and on the external hard drive. I have tried only transferring a user account a few MBs large. I have reinstalled the OS twice just in case something went wrong there. I have clicked on the .MIG file directly. All lead to the same error message.The transfer file seems to be intact and not currupt
Is there another software other than WET that can use the same transfer file that WET created to restore my files? Please help me solve this if you can or at least point me in the right direction because right now I'm clueless. I can't emphasize how important those files are to me. I've searched for solutions on several forums and it seems that this is a problem people have been having for years now and windows hasn't provided an answer yet.
An interesting note, When I reboot the laptop after trying to do the transfer, a new user account appears at startup alongside the one I normally use.This new user account has the same unique name of the user account I am trying to restore but that's where the similarity ends.All the settings for this account are default settings and empty folders.
Applications Keep 'refreshing' Itself
Jan 30, 2012I'm currently experiencing a strange problem with my laptop. Whenever I certain gaming program run in the background (not in focus) the applications seem to shift back and forth from from "Running" and "Not Responding" almost like it constantly refreshes itself (every 3 or so seconds). However, if I keep one of those programs in focus, the problem doesn't occur as often. The task bar always seems to be moving as a result of this (almost doing a dance if I open enough programs that have this problem).I've tried updating drivers, installed all service packs, scanned computer with Malware Bytes, Norton.I'm using Windows 7, 64 bit 6.1 (7061), ATI Mobile Radeon HD 5650

May 29, 2012On some nights my computer works perfectly fine, I can surf the net without incident, open applications, play games etc and everything appears to be fine.Then there are the other nights (which are increasing in frequency) where the computer boots up fine but then I run into application after application which refuses to load - I will click on the application and the "loading" icon will appear on screen and then just stay there.The only way out is to cntrl-alt-delete and bring up task manager, but this can also then refuse to either load or - if it does - will not respond when I click on the first offending application in an attempt to close that down.I also noticed on the last few nights that when trying to start a particular game clicking on the icon would appear to have activated nothing - yet when I attempted to start it again I would get a message saying that I couldn't start the game until the one I had running had been shut down - but nothing appeared to be running.My computer was built in January of this year. I have regularly run disk cleanups etc and run virus checks at least once a week and nothing shows up.

Feb 2, 2012Does anyone know if running 32 bit applications on the 64 bit edition of windows 7 will impact performance. My new laptop is consistently slow and unresponsive yet the task manager shows memory usage of just over 50% (2.1Gigs out of 4Gigs) and the CPU usage is minimal (like 20->30%). One thing I do notice on the resource manager though is that a significant number of the processes running are post-fixed with *32 which I believes indicates that they are 32 bit applications. Could this explain why my machine is so slow? Or should there be no significant overhead to running 32 bit applications? Also, if there is a significant overhead why does it not show up as increased memory/CPU usage rather than just making the machine unresponsive and slow?

Cannot Open Applications In Windows 7
Aug 1, 2011I cannot open many applications in Windows 7 including Firefox, MS Word, and Excel. Some that do open will freeze during use. I suspect that a virus or malware could be causing these problems. The applications open in Windows Safe Mode okay. Here's the Hijackthis and DDS log:

All My Applications Won't Open Correctly
Nov 10, 2011It seems all my applications are acting up so I have to use a separate computer. I know its not a virus since I never accessed the internet but all my applications went hay-wire, if I double click for example: notepad, it tries to open up internet explorer then shuts that down and asks me to run or save the file application, either choice I make causes the screen requesting those two options to reappear over and over. It all started when I made my falloutnewvegas.exe try to open with the falloutnewvegaslauncher which was the only one allowing the game to launch. so after that every application has a internet explorer icon in the middle of it with a blank page.

Several applications fail to close on exit, and I have to manually close them in Task Manager before they will work again. Always happens with Outlook 2007, Google Chrome, sometimes happens with Firefox and Acrobat Reader. Outlook also hangs on the last message in a "send and receive" operation.

Same thing with any Full Screen application, (game, video, ETC.). While an application is running full screen, every minute or so the application minimizes and I have to restore it. I purchased my machine 4 years back with the Vista o/s. I (and cubase, the main app which I purchased the laptop for) hated vista so I downgraded to XP Pro, which was far more stable at the time. As a result, I have a full, paid for copy of vista which I can use. I have, over the past few years, collected a vast array of apps, not all of which I have the instal media for. Also, the process of re-installing ALL of my applications would be hugely lengthy, time consuming, mind-numbingly boring, etc, etc. Would it be possible to upgrade to windows 7 via vista and keep all of my applications. To avoid instability, I thought I could then back up with Acronis, wipe the drive and do a clean install of windows 7, then reimport my apps/docs/settings etc from Acronis. Am I missing something or is this going to stand a fair chance of working?
