System Shutting Down Automatically?
Dec 8, 2011My system shutting down automatically.

View 1 Replieswhen I shut down my machine, I'll go back a while later and it's still running. The screen will say that it's waiting for me to close Firefox. If I choose Force Shutdown, it warns me that I'll lose any unsaved data. In the past when I ran WinXP, I would only get this msg if I had an open file that I hadn't saved changes on. So as long as all my files were saved, I could have 10 programs open and Windows would shut them all down automatically when I shut down the computer. My work computer runs Win7, and it will do the same thing. I searched online and found a way to force shutdown, but will that shut down the computer even if I have an unsaved file in Word or Excel or whatever?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've just built my own PC and installed Windows 7 64-bit. It was working great for the first few weeks, then about a week ago, after some Windows updates, the computer refused to shut down. When pressing the shut down button, which is set to shut down not reboot, it would reboot instead. I decided to just reinstall Windows 7 completely. It worked.Yesterday after recent updates to Win7 the computer once again stopped shutting down. Every time I try, it will begin to shut down and then will immediately reboot itself. This time the complete Win7 reinstall did nothing.
1. total reinstall (worked first time, not second time)
2. reinstall with no updates, choosing non-security and non-critical updates
3. system restore to the point of first install --still no good.
4. gone through windows itself and had it check for anything damaged and fix it
I'm just wondering if this is something abnormal. I keep my system up 24/7 just shutting off display without putting it to sleep/hibernate. Every morning when I wake up and check the kernel memory, it's quite high >500mb. I checked with a friend and his is onli about ~300. What does this mean, a memory leak?

Version for BIOS system F.17 i tried the recovery disks but it says that windows does not support the media on this device. I also have an .iso file of windows 7 home premium dvd but it doesn't do anything so im thinking its a bad .iso copy of windows somehow or I burned it wrong maybe? If there's any other information needed i will gladly post it just ask. also I cannot get to logon screen on startup. The hard drive makes the same soft spinning sound not beeping or anything. I need this computer for work its a business laptop. also i cannot access system recovery from F11 the words show up in bottom left corner on startup but even if you repeated hit f11 or hold it down it brings screen to black screen media cable failure check cable exiting pxe-rom..no operating system etc.
I have an Asus Intel (R) Core (TM)2 Duo CPU T6500 @2.10GHZ LAPTOP. I am a basic computer user and simply tried to upgrade to Windows 7 because when I purchased the computer in August it came with a free upgrade.
I performed the upgrade check and folllowed the Windows 7 sugestions. I hit the upgrade button and 2.5 hours later things were going fine. The last step was approx 50% finished (Trasferring files, drives, etc.)
The system retstarted automatically and I received the Bootmgr is missing. I went on the forum and found a sugestion to Boot from the DVD. I tried this and it worked. System rebboted fine. Got a message to repair or revover. I repaired the start up. That worked and now the computer starts from its own hard drive.
After startup, "starting windows", I see wa window that says Setup is starting services and then I get a window box that says, "Th computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows Installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation.
When I hit ok, the computer restarts and I eventually circle back to this screen.
Do I need to initiate something to restart the installation?
Yesterday I tried installing fedora core on my system, installation was not successful and I cancelled it. But my system initially had windows 7 on it,when I try to boot with windows 7 system automatically switches off while loading windows screen. So tried fresh installation of windows 7, again here while copying files or installing files screen it switches off (not shutdown, abrupt off). Why can't I even install a fresh copy of windows?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a dell latitude E6410 laptop running windows 7 ultimate. A few days ago it started playing up, at first I thought I had a virus of some sort as my protection had run out, so I downloaded another protection plan and ran a test which came back clean. Then a message came up up from windows saying that I needed to install a "P2P driver" and do a upgrade. So I downloaded the driver and did the upgrade which seemed to work. The next day I started up and it went straight to the start up repair, which came back saying my system cant be repaired automatically. I can get as far as the system recovery options. I tried a "system restore" and that didn't work, and a "windows memory diagnostic" and still nothing. I haven't done a back up disc or have any other discs so I'm pretty much stuck in a loop now. I've been looking into the "system image recovery" but have no idea what that means or what to do.

The first thing i want to do is to buy a new single RAM memory of 2 GB at 800MHz, because personally I think that the RAM is the weak link of the system. The first question is: What is the best combination? To have 3GB of RAM at 667MHz or 2GB at 800MHz.Now with the currently configuration (1GB at 667MHz) the level of used RAM memory in idle is 75%.The other problem is that every time when the PC is shutting down, the green light turns off and the red one is blinking very fast, giving you the impression that it's always lit; and the red light intensity is very low; (it emits less light). The PC has 2 coolers (one for CPU and other to the power source ...and the VGA doesn't have a cooler) and when the PC is shutting down the phenomenon with the lights happens and one of the coolers will never stop (i don't know which of them).the red light is blinking very fast at low light intensity and a cooler is on.and those will never end up until you will press the shut down button for a few seconds. The system was configured (installed the OS and the other programs)... by a guy with knowledge and he said that this happens because of the newer OS installed. (Windows 7).This problem doesn't appear when restarting the PC.It appears only when the system is shutting down. The second question is: Can the small capacity of RAM (1GB) lead to this phenomenon?
I am having an issue with windows 7 64bit. Every time i am done using the pc, it will randomly shut down, at different times. I have no clue what the issue is. I do not have a heat problem , nor PSU problem. When I am on the computer, whether it is 20 mins or 4 hours, no problems, but when I am done using it, and nothing is being used, it will just shutdown.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a non-tech friend whose windows 7 machine has started shutting down as soon as he signs in. I have used combofix previously but he cannot get windows up long enough to run it in normal node. I had him boot into safe mode and checked out msconfig and the registry to see if anything was hung out there. I don't have any other options other than running combofix in safemode but I understand that is possibly problematic.

View 2 Replies View Relatedit is a week or so that I have a problem with my PC.When I shut down the PC, instead of turning off, he restart. Before restarting, for a brief moment I can see a BSOD screen, but I cannot read it.After the PC restart, I see a small window telling me that the PC was restored due to an error. [code] A week and a half ago, I installed two add-on cards ( a PCI USB card and a PCIE USB 3.0 card), and with the PCI I has troubles to make it run, so I uninstalled it and I sent it back to the store. With the USB 3.0 instead everything was fine.I dont know if this is related to the problem I have right now.
