Switch From Raid 0 To Single Drive With New Operating System?
Feb 13, 2012
We have two disks in raid 0. We want to get rid of them, as they are failing and install a single hard drive with Windows 7. We currently have Vista installed. There are no files I need to copy, just want to start with a fresh operating system. How do I go about this? Can I just remove the old hard drives and replace with the single hard drive and install Windows 7 on it, or is it more complicated than that?

I'm working on a computer with a RAID setup. It is 2 hard drives 500gb each showing up as 1tb in windows. Both drives show up in the bios but all of a sudden when trying ot start the computer I get a "Operating system is missing" error.
I'm trying to run a chkdsk form a win 7 64 bit disk and telling it to run on H; (system drive) but it says 'cannot open volume for direct access'.
The other drive, C: is just a recovery drive built into dell computer systems. I tried using a boot cd and running mbrfix to no avail.

I recently built a computer with only one drive, I was wondering if it is possible to install another one and have them runing on raid 0 or do you suggest another type of raid maybe with 3 drives.
I have an asus mobo p5q3 so I can use Drive Xpert technology but a lot of reviews says that the speed of the drives is split in two when using these 2 sata connection (white and orange).

So i would like to buy a whole new computer. but i want to keep the operating system which is windows 7 professional. It's installed on the hard drives as raid 5. now i know that the raid key or whatever it's called is stored int he bios so just plugging the hard drives into a motherboard that supports raid 5 won't work. So what can i do to install everything that i have on these hard drives into a new system? Also the operating system is registered online would i be able to re register it or something? i don't have the new computer yet i'm just looking around for something good and for a good deal.

I cannot aford to buy SSDs yet and wanted to know how if at all I would clone my HDD to my Raid 0 Dynamic HDDs, windows wont install to them, and casper just overwrites one drive killing the dynamic setup and making a second single HDD clone.
I am using the trial edition of the current version of casper and trying to figure out if buying the full version would make a difference, the original drive is a 1.5TB and the two Dynamic Drive Array are 1TB, all seagates.I have 24GB of ram, a 2GB 550 Ti and a LGA1155 2.8GHz CPU running Windows 7 Ultimate Premium 64bit with a passive 3D LG monitor trying to run five game Accts simultaneously with TS3, Skype, GB3, Spybot and Logitech Services in the back ground

I bought a intel 320 160g gen3. Looking to clone my raid o to it. I may be over simplifying it but can't I just install the SSd in the 3rd Sata spot clone to it from the raid then just change the bios to boot off of the SSd and change it to ahci? Then keep the raid o as is for storage of games and such. I am not putting any important data on the raid o purely a gaming computer. Fresh instal isn't an option btw.

I'm looking to move my Win 7 install from a RAID 0 (with two traditional HDs) to a new single SSD.
I have the new SSD installed in the computer and the system can see it fine. (In fact, I installed a trial copy of Win 7 and it boots up fine).
I'm not sure what's the best way for me to proceed. Do I make a disk image of the RAID partition with Acronis and restore it to the SSD? Any way I can set this up so I can keep my existing program files and installations?

1)You have two hard drives in your PC. Drive A contains Windows installation and other files. Drive B is an empty drive. Your Motherboard supports RAID 1(additionally 0 and 5) and you want to setup hardware RAID 1. Is it possible to switch HDD to RAID mode, enter RAID BIOS, create array using drive A, copy drive B content to drive A and run RAID 1 using two drives(drive A should rebuild array on next restart and copy mirror drive A on drive B)
2)You have two drives, drive A and drive B running in hardware RAID 1. You need to format drive B, copy drive A's content oto drive B(which should be non-raid drive now) and install non-raid drive B on another PC.
3)You have three drive A, B, C. Drive C contains Windows and other files. You need to setup RAID 1 using drive A and B and then copy Windows from drive C to newly created array consisting of drive A and B.
All three scenarios require no Windows re-installation.

I currently have windows vista 32 bit on my hard drive. I want to upgrade to windows 7 ultimate, but don't want to format this HD just yet.
Is there a way to load windows 7 onto this hard drive then have that portion of the HD boot up in windows 7? That way I can run windows 7 and still have my windows vista and all my files on the same hard drive.
If windows 7 works out, can I delete that windows vista portion and copy the files into the Windows 7 portion?

I made the mistake of putting W7 on a small partition of the 160GB D drive. I was not aware that much of windows 7 programing would not allow me to change the destination to install and insists on installing on the OS drive. I am looking for a way to copy, move or coerce all of the current system onto another drive without erasing that drive.

My problem is simple. I had 4 HD's in my Computer 2* 500G in Raid as an operating system and 2*1tb drives for storage. Everything was working fine but the OS needed a formatt and refresh basicaally.o to take advantage of this and free up 1TB of space I bought a 64G SSD, physically installed it and went about setting up this as my OS from scratch. However, in my haste I forgot to remove a couple fo folders of important documents from the old OS drives. The SSD is the Boot drive now and I can see all other HD's in my computer, but the problem is I can not gain access to, lets call it H:, which was the old OS drive. I have been able to initiallise one of the old OS raid drives through disk management, but am unable to gain access to H.
It tells me I need to Formatt the drive first, and then comes up with a speil about access being denied. I gather this has to do with the old OS being installed on it, I am happy to formatt the drive enventually. But I really need to get some docs off it first. Is there anyway to do this, I have been searching for an answer but not getting anywhere?I tried to change the boot order also, as all other system specs remain the same. But I think because I have removed the Raid set up of the drives I am unable t load the old OS

So yesterday I was online and uploaded a pic to Twitpic. Everything froze up so after a bit I decided to restart. When it restarted it went right into system repair. I let that run ALL NIGHT LONG. In the morning, it asked if I wanted to do a system restore and I said yes. But it said I had no restore points. I knew that wasn't right so I ran through the memory check option and then the hard drive check and was told memory was fine but now I don't have a hard drive found or an operating system. Any clue what has happened or how to restore everything?

I have a hard drive I recovered from my old Dell laptop when the motherboard gave out. Originally, I just put it in an external hard case and have been using it as external storage. Now it is getting filled up, so I would like to reformat it to remove the OS partition (Vista) to give me access to the entire drive. I have removed and baked up all my files, but cannot find a way to repartition the drive to remove the OS volume. Disk manager will not let me access that volume to delete it - nor will diskpart. In fact, only the non-OS volume even shows up with a drive letter in diskpart.
I have searched the web but have only been able to find info on how to reformat the main hard drive...and this is definitely NOT what I want to do.

I recently bought a DIY computer package from Tigerdirect. I put all the parts together, making sure to handle the parts correctly. Once everything was hooked-up, hardware-wise, I tried to install Windows 7 off of a friend's USB drive. It almost worked, but it requested that I insert a disk into the drive, which I couldn't do.I bought a brand new Windows 7 OEM version. Computer still won't boot-up, even though BIOS screen shows that the optical drive is connected. After checking the boot order sequence several times, I figured that the driver must have something wrong with it, so I bought a cheap DVDROM. Both optical drives are made by LG (not sure if relevant) but neither work. In fact, neither one would even spin-up the disk. Message on screen reads: 'Reboot and Select proper boot device, or insert boot media into boot device and press any key.'

Ran F12 to regain Operating system - long version. Says computer passes everything but there's no operating system found. Did this Twice. Tried "Operating System" CD that came w/ Studio 17 laptop. Hit option to run via CD & never got anywhere after an hour. Tried Reinstall Hardware disk that came w/ laptop. It shows Vista, but laptop came w/ Windows 7. See where it shows the system's checking things out, but never get anywhere.

Suddenly my Win 7 Home Premium x64 will not boot. The system starts, POSTs then loads the DVD driver, then the screen goes black (not blank but "lit up" black if that makes sense). Then nothing. If I use Hiren's boot cd I can boot up using the "boot from HDD" option fine and Windows operates normally. System restore to a previous configuration made no difference to the original problem. I cannot boot into Safe Mode. F8 just offers me boot order options.
- Running the Windows 7 DVD I find: "No operating system is listed on the Repair Windows option."
- Running Startup Repair finds the following error: "the partition table does not have a valid system partition" which it claims to have repaired, but the error remains and Windows will still not boot.
I followed this advice:
Boot 7 dvd to system recovery options command prompt. Type: Diskpart
list vol (find the vol letter e.g C or partition number e.g. 1 for the system partition )
Sel vol C ( or sel vol 1, obviously use the correct letter or number)
act exi
My system partition was easily identified and listed as healthy so I selected it and made it active. The problem still remains exactly the same. My system is self built just over a year ago, to my knowledge has been running fine, without any hardware issues. I'm prepared to do a clean install if that's what it takes but if there is a way to fix the partition problem without that I'd like to explore it first.
