I would like to know how to stop my computer from logging me off when idle. I have disabled all other power options. I am trying to see if the system Watchdog_timeout errors and other BSODs are caused by the power management portion of Windows 7.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a new Desktop with Windows 7. After I start the computer and leave it running for a while, (10 to 15min), it will automatically revert to the password screen. Also it won't go to screen saver. I have the screensaver set to not require password after waking. Also I have my power settings set to high performance. Also i have my Nic card configured so that it isn't allowed to be turned off.

The drive is a Western Digital MyBook Live 1TB.Here's the sequence of events:1) Installed the drive and ran the software from the CD. I only installed the WD SmartWare Drive Manager, NOT the backup software.2) Evaluated and tried out the drive for a couple of days - no issues, everything worked fine.3) Then, Windows Update notified me of 2 updates...which were rather strange...a) HD - Other Hardware - WD MyBook Live - IMPORTANT HD - Other Hardware - Storage Media Update - OPTIONAL (not the exact description, but similar)4) I noticed a yellow bang in Device Manager. It was under other devices, but it was obviously my network drive that I installed. It said that "No Driver could be found for this device." However, my drive was working fine and no issues were noted.5) I installed the 2 Windows Updates and the Yellow bang went away. The device now had a driver and was viewed under the appropriate device category.6) Went to bed, I restarted the computer the next day and within 1 minute of bootup, I get the above BSOD. I rebooted and the same error occured.Things to note:a) The error happens often (about 50% of the time) but not always. However, it always occurs within 1 to 2 minutes after bootup and the error code is exactly the same each time. If I don't get the error after 2 minutes of bootup, I will not get it at all. Safemode & Safemode with Networking do not appear to experience the BSOD.c) When the BSOD occurs, it usually happens when the boot drive (System partition) is very "Busy" (like after a Windows Update, new program install, etc.)d) It references the same file associated with Acronis True Image as the culprit (see below).

When browsing a website that I have pinned to my taskbar (Facebook for example) I've noticed that the pages take longer than usual to load. When it does load, the page becomes very choppy when I'm scrolling up/down and is generally slow to respond. It's the same for any website I have pinned to my taskbar.
The strange thing is, If I open up IE9 (non-pinned) and browse using the address bar everything is smooth and fast. I've cleared my temp internet files and reset IE to default settings with no luck. I've also tried un-pining then re-pinning website but it's still the same. Is there a way I can clear the cache for individual pinned sites?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI havehad Windows XP for many years (I am not a techy). I cannot afford a new computer right now and my current Dell Computer(10 years old) had reached it's max storage and would not even boot up except in safe mode. My brother was helping me remotely to try and fix it and he ended up wiping everything I had not been able to back up. He also installed W7 without asking me (he meant well). The main problems I am having are visual. All my games...both on and off line..are blurry and distorted. I am no longer able to play solitaire or MSN Texas Holdem because the visual distortion is so annoying it hurts my eyes and ruins the game for me. I tried to revert back to XP but the visual changes are apparently permanent. As I cannot purchase a new computer at this time, I need some help to see if I can adjust my visual settings. Also, while I have been able to find a font that works reasonably well with W7, somesites are still difficult to read as the font seems faded out.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer Aspire 5542 Laptop running Windows 7 and have had no problems until recently. I went to check my Hotmail and found I could not get to Hotmail.com then my msn messenger signed out and would not sign back in.
I then noticed that I could not get to any Microsoft site but all other sites work fine. I am a computer tech and run a small home network the laptop being the only machine running windows 7 all other run XP or Linux all other machines can access all Microsoft sites so I am pretty sure the problem lies with the laptop, however after running every scan I can think of and coming up empty I wiped the mbr and recreated the hard drive partition and reinstalled windows with the factory restore disks.
I just bought my Acer laptop 5057G Windows 7 Home Premium 32 last December. It says, Error 324(net: ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE): The server closed the connetion without sending any data.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've had IE9 on this Win7 (64-Bit) computer for a few months now and today when I opened IE9 and tried to go to a few sites, it would remain on the "Downloading" or "Waiting.." in the lower left. After about 5 minutes of so, the page would load. Clicking on the "Back" or "X" wouldn't work. I had to Del/Ctrl/Alt to get out of these pages that were not loading (quickly).
I uninstalled IE9 and IE8 seems to be behaving the same way - very slow loading of sites, AOL, etc. I ran full MSE scan and nothing shows. I installed IE9 again and still same "slowness" getting into all sites! Did the "disable add-ons" thing and that didn't work, either. FF runs fine, so I presume it is something in IE9 (and IE8) that is causing this "slowness, slugishness, etc." for pages ot load/show." I tried IE9 64-bit and same problem! If I wait and wait (maybe several minutes) the page will finally show.
I would like to know if there is a way, when you start up your PC, so that windows would log you in automatically without you having to click on your user account everytime. There surely must be some registry fix/tweak for that? Security is not an issue for me, don't use a password anyways.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have multiple issues that have all cropped up in the past few days. I will try to list as much as I can and as much as I remember doing.I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit running on a Toshiba Satellite L500-1WG. I have had no apparent problems until now. I used to run Kaspersky internet security (free package from online banking) but it wouldn't allow some facebook games to run so I disabled it and used Avast. Avast found a virus in a temp folder upon first quick scan (Win32:Malware-gen) and transferred it to the virus chest on 23.02.11 with a 'last changed' date of 21.12.2010 (was it on there that long and not found by Kaspersky?!?!)Anyway, all good until a boot time scan on 10.05.11 (first one I had run after figuring out what it was) and it found 2 viruses that I hit delete on rather than move to chest - Java:Agent-DI [Trj] and Java:Jade-A [Heur] both in LocalLow Java cache folders. Since then I have had nothing but problems, although I think my trying to do bits and pieces may have had a hand in it too.
I turned Kaspersky back on to do a scan and it didn't find anything except an android rooting thing that it deleted (downloaded but unused). I also tried Malwarebytes after seeing so many recommendations and it has found nothing (I disabled the other antiviruses as I know I had too many but not sure if that is enough or should they have been uninstalled completely?). My Event Viewer has LOTS of errors, warnings and possibly worrying information logs and then I tried turning off some unnecessary start up programmes. I think that is all I have done...When I tried turning it on the other day it kept stalling and freezing and so I turned it off for a day or so. Yesterday I turned it on, it started up fine to the log on screen and once I entered my password I got a black screen with only the cursor. It stayed like this. Today I tried again and it was the same. A few hours later I tried again and after about 5 mins of black screen it loaded up but the wireless wouldn't work. I started it in safe mode and it starts fine. I set it to start up in normal mode and it started but was running extremely slow.
I took my computer completely apart to clean it, put it all back together, fresh install of win 7 and now its giving me issues. when booting, it will hang right after the windows logo pops up, or it will let me login, then after a while either freeze, or the screen will go black and i will have to hit the reset button. it will either have me boot normally or go through the startup repair, that does nothing.

I performed a clean boot by disabling everything except microsoft stuff at startup. The item I eliminated was adobe reader speed launcher. I can not see it in my programs or features so I can uninstall it. With it disabled..my computer stopped hanging.
I am really curious how to disable Windows logging. I was reading something on Wikipedia about privacy and security; and came across something interesting that I cannot find much about on Google. It stated that "many programs and operating systems are set up to perform data logging of usage". For example, this might be recording the times when the computer was in use, or some applications we use on Windows. Whoever wrote the article stated that its possible to disable Windows logging - but my question is - is it?
