Shutdown And Boot Monitoring Performance Together In Even Viewer?
Apr 10, 2012
i happened to notice that whenever start my computer and check my boot performance in event viewer->Application and Services log->Microsoft->Windows->Diagnostics Performance->Operational, there are two events that are logged. First is Boot Performance Monitoring (Event 100) and below it at is Shutdown Monitoring Performance (Event 200). Whenever i start my comp. these two events are logged together at the same time.why shutdown performance monitoring is logged when i start the comp? is it normal for both the events (100, 200) to occur together? shouldn't the shutdown performance event be logged when i shut down my comp?

Yesterday morning, I re-seated my HSF and also installed an old DVD burner from my old computer into my newly built one (built on 11/6/09). It should be a pretty fast system (i7 920, 120-GB SSD, 6GB DDR3 OCZ Platinum...), and I was fine with the boot time before yesterday (though I think it was still closer to a minute), but after I started it up yesterday (post install), it took a long time to start up and seemed to hang on the "Starting Windows" screen.
I've done alot of researching, and can't quite figure out what is wrong, though maybe it has to do with the DVD drive I put in. I checked the device, and it says it is working properly and it says the driver is up to date.
This Error appeared yesterday in the log (though I just checked the log today). This error comes up as a Warning almost everyday in the event log (except 2 Fridays ago ?), along with Event ID 300 for most of the previous week.
Any ideas? The only thing that I can think of is to do a re-install of Windows 7 (64bit), but I'm a bit nervous about that.

I need a way of monitoring if performance cpu stuttering is going on. It seems like it is as in games the screen stutters when it was smooth before. How can I monitor this or check for this? What is causing this?

I have a FUJITSU LIFEBOOK LH531 (Intel Core i7-2640M CPU @2.80GHz, 8 GB RAM running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 x64).Since 2 days the notebook has become too slow. The boot process is now taking 2-3 times longer. After boot, opening any program takes ages. Even when I click on START, the menu takes time to appear. I did not instal any new hardware or software when the problem started. Also I did varous virus/malware checks, nothing detected. But when I looked at the event log of my notebook - there were so many errors & warnings (see JPG attachment) - and this is affecting the performance.
A text version of the event log is below.

This is something I have seen occur multiple times in 17 years of using windows, after a unexpected shutdown windows i/o performance slows right down and I still dont have the answer to it.
Today I accidently cut the power to my pc, so windows didnt crash it just lost power.
Windows took about twice as long to boot. After it had booted the system hdd was very busy doing I dont know why (wasnt superfetch or virus scanning). The i/o was used by the system process. Outlook took a looooong time to open. it then also took a very long time to close deleting the deleted emails which are usually way faster. Internet explorer took about 2 minutes to restore crashed tabs which was massive disk i/o. Opening tiny apps where the hdd light either flashes very briefly or doesnt come on at all have a noticeable 1-2 sec delay with the light on solid.
I expect after a manual defrag things will be back to normal. Dos all the prefetch data get trashed on a unexpected shutdown or something?

It is win 7 with updates. I built it a little over a year ago. It restarts all by itself. The event viewer shows a kernel error and improper shutdown. It may restart once or maybe twice a day or not at all but It happens too often and started a while back. I have checked temp using Sisoft sandra but its not overheated. The only thing unusual to me was the power supply fan seems to kick in twice. Its done that since it was new. It still does it at times but not always. The Power supply is a Fatality 550 w. The amd processor is low watts and so is the video card. I don't like the idea of replacing stuff just to see if it works. I don't know if ram or memory error could cause something like this?

I have a ASUS Laptop with Intel I3 processer and Windows 7 Home Premium. I recently had a forced shutdown during a Windows upgrade session. Ever since then the Boot and Shutdown times have increased to over 15 minutes. I have run the msconfig unticking all but the antivirus (Kaspersky) and it still takes >15 min to boot and Shutdown. Is there something I can do before I decide to reinstall Windows &. (I dont have a install disk.) The software came with the Computer and I have the OEM code (Bought at Best Buy)

I have, within the past few weeks, build my own computer. The compter has worked great for a while, but then started having problems. It had problems with the internet and other stuff, but I was able to fix the problems by disabling parts of my firewall. Now though, when my computer boots Windows, it goes to the login screen fine and without problems. Then when I log in, it says "Welcome" for about 2 minutes, until I am able to get my account. Then, when I get into my account, the computer runs really slow and almost can't run anything it is so slow. So my question is why would this be happening? I know that it isn't the CPU's speed because it is over 3 GHz and has worked fine for me and the overall build is a very high speed gaming computer. This is my first computer. The details of the computer are this: CPU-Intel Core i5-2500 Sandy Bridge 3.3 GHz Motherboard-Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD3P LGA 1155 INTEL Z68 OS-Windows 7 Home Premium There are two hard drives on the computer, a 1 TB HDD and a 60 GB SSD?

I used to run my PC on Vista Ultimate 64bit and was very happy ith its performance, but after seeing it forget the window layout for the umpteenth time, I decided to install Windows 7. Purchased a Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit Systembuilder package, formatted all my drives and installed it. Turns out there was a problem with the boot manager. The repair function of the installation DVD didn't really do anything, so I re-installed the whole thing and this time it worked ... sort of.
I get to see my desktop pretty quickly, but then it takes more than 2 minutes to load the 3 sidebar gadgets, open Wampserver (which I need for work) and connect to my home network. During that time the CPU is near idle (1-10% CPU usage) but it won't respond to any commands. The "Computer" won't open, right-click menus don't open, etc. In Vista I could play GTA4 with all settings maxed out at 55fps. Now the PC is struggling to reach 30.
Before the install, I have re-downloaded all my drivers from the various manufacturers' websites, to make sure they were all for Windows 7 x64. The Device manager isn't indicating any problems either. I'm having all kinds of internet-related software problems (Skype failing to make calls, Wampserver not showing full connection, etc) and even resorted to another re-install recently. On Vista the problems disappeared and it responded instantly, but I then installed Windows 7 again and I'm back at square one.
Hardware Specs:
MoBo : Gigabyte P67A UD3P B3
CPU : Intel Core i5 2500 @ 3.3 GHz (stock speed)
Memory : 16GB (4x4GB) GeIL Black Dragon DDR3-1333 CL7-7-7-24
GFX card : 1x ATI Radeon HD4870X2
PSU : BeQuiet! Dark Power Pro 850W
HDD 1 : OCZ RevoDrive X2 240GB (System disk)
HDD 2 : OCZ Vertex 2 60GB SSD (Game modding disk)
HDD 3 : Seagate ST31000340AS Barracuda 1TB 7200RPM (Data disk)
HDD 4 : Samsung HD240UI 2TB 5400RPM (Media disk)
DVD 1 : Sony Optiarc DVD RW AD-5260S
DVD 2 : Sony Optiarc DVD RW AD-7261S (Lightscribe)
The GFX card and PSU are 2.5 years old, but the rest of the PC was bought in March 2011. The motherboard was replaced in May due to suffering from the known SandyBridge issue with the S-ATA controller.
Software-wise:
I run the usual stuff. LibreOffice, Paintshop Pro, etc. Wampserver is required for my work, but that doesn't give any problems on my Windows 7 laptop. The problem appears on a default system, so I'm pretty sure that none of my applications are responsible. Normally I don't use an antivirus on this PC. I'm a careful browser and have another machine with AVG for downloading.

I was talking to some folks who use Windows and various Linux flavors and on the subject of memory, they tell me they do not trust the built in Ram monitoring tools to report Ram usage as well as Linux does.
What do you guys think about this?
Is there anything to it.. if so, are there better free 3rd party Ram monitoring tools for Windows?

[code] I recently upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7. Inside the bios of my computer is an option to use the onboard graphics controller or to use the graphics card installed on my PCI Express slot. If I select the PCI Express option, the motherboard automatically disables the onboard controller before it even reaches the OS and so it is impossible to extend my desktop. The only way to fix this issue would be a bios update. Anyway, here is what I did instead on Windows XP. I would just use the bios and select the option to use the onboard graphics controller. The OS would start and use the onboard video card and would then detect the graphics card (with the proper drivers) and detect the monitor attached to that card. I would then successfully be able to extend my desktop to the other monitor select proper resolution and even choose which monitor is the default monitor. Thus we have dual monitoring. Now that I have upgraded to Windows 7 I can't get this setup to work.
If I use the bios and select the graphics card option, then in Windows 7 the graphics card is detected (and installed with proper drivers) and the monitor that is attached is properly installed. Inside device manager everything looks perfectly fine (no yellow things), except that the onbaord graphics controller is not detected (but that is to be expected, since that also happens in the XP case). If I use the bios and select the onboard graphics card option, then Windows 7 starts up with the onboard graphics card (with proper drivers installed) and the monitor attached to that port works fine. However, it does not seem to detect the graphics card. Inside device manager, under displays it lists the onboard graphics controller and the GeForce graphics card as properly installed and working. However, it also lists a new, unknown video controller?!???!!? Is this the graphics card again? Does it need more drivers? I can't get the computer to detect the monitor on the graphics card. Apparantly this seems to be an issue with Windows 7. Both monitors successfully work on both graphics controllers (the PCI Express and the onboard), just not at the same time. I don't think this is some type of drivers issue, but I am no expert.

I've just ran into a problem with my Sony Vaio laptop. It froze when I was using it, and I was forced to force it to shut down. Now i can't boot into Windows anymore. I've tried starting the recovery, but it just got stuck there too. Even The safe mode does not work. It hangs when it's loading the avgidseh.sys driver, but when searching for this it seemed that this is not avg related. The most important thing is to have my files back, but I don't want to buy a case for the HDD and reformat if there could be another solution. I've also ran a memory scan and it reported no errors, then booted into recovery mode which then hang again. Currently I'm leaving it trying to start up the whole night, but it's already taking 30 minutes at startup animation...

I am running Windows 7 on both my new Desktop and my 2 year old laptop. My laptop was the first to receive the upgrade to 7 and has been working awesomely. The start up is phenomenal and shutdown is no hassle, however my laptop runs on the 32 bit software. Now my desktop, I just recently upgraded it to 7 last week however I haven't noticed the same performance boost as I have on my laptop. I do run 64 bit on my desktop, but I am curious as to why the shutdown and startup times are rather slow.
I have gone as far as to limit the start up programs as well as some of the boot options being the GUI boot and maximizing the number of processors that are used during startup. Sometimes even during the start up the screen goes black for a few minutes after I enter my login password. I have Intel Quad Core 2 with 8GB Ram and TB of Hard Drive space. I just don't understand why it takes much longer to start and shut down when my laptop with less performance can.

I turned off my computer's power after it seemed to have frozen without response while running Ubisoft Uplay, which I recently re-downloaded. After turning my computer back on, Windows performed a Startup Repair, restarted, and resumed Startup Repair twice for a total of three repairs. When trying to boot Windows normally, I get a black screen with a movable cursor. After several minutes, Windows displays the login screen; however, after typing my password in, the computer hangs on 'Welcome' and eventually returns to a black screen.I have tried all of the repair options shown by pressing 'F8', but to no avail:When I run Startup Repair now, no problem is detected and the program exits. I have only one System Restore point, apparently created right before reinstalling Ubisoft Uplay; however, trying to restore from this point produces an error message and System Restore cannot finish. I have also tried running bootrec.exe from the Command Prompt and have tried /FixBoot and /RebuildBcd after exporting the BCD (following the steps @http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392), but despite the success messages, the same problem continues. I can boot in Safe Mode, but iexplore immediately crashes with an error message, preventing me from trying a Clean Boot.
I have plenty of important data on my hard drive, and want to avoid a total reinstall of Windows 7 at all costs. I have the original Windows 7 install disk, if that will help in any way. In case it matters, I am using a MacBook Pro with BootCamp, and have been using Windows 7 without problems for several months

If you're a system or network administrator, you need monitoring tools. You have to know, at all times, the status of your systems so you can optimize performance and head off potential problems. Thankfully, plenty of tools are available to help you stay in the know about your systems. Some of these products are costly and do quite a lot. But others are free and do just as much and in some cases, more. I want to introduce you to five system and/or network monitors that do more than you'd think they could do. From this list of products you will certainly find one or more tools that will serve your needs.

I'm looking for some software that can monitor inbound and outbound traffic through my D-Link DIR-655 router by individual workstation. I'm running a XP machine as a server x86, with coldfusion MX (for our home website), and a syslog server on the same machine. The software would run on this machine. The criteria are:
1. I should differentiate between intranet and internet traffic
2. It should be persistent; that is; it keeps track of stats between reboots of server (software like active wall does not retain stats when server reboots).
3. It should also be able to run when server is in logged out state, either as an application or service, preferrably a service.
4. It should not cost alot.
5. It should be able to collect stats on all connected workstations, whether DHCP or static IPs, including consoles like PS3, Wii and xBOX360.
6. It should support XP, Vista and 7, in both 32 and 64 bit versions.
7. Preferably, no agent should be installed on each of the workstations (flexible on this as long as footprint is small). All workstations are 64 bit.
This is a home network, with 17 connected devices; windows 7 x64 x 9, Win XP x86 x 1, PS3, Wii, xBox, and 4 iPhones.

I've had this problem for a while and it drives me nuts. Every time I shut down my computer it will crash the next time I power up and try to boot windows 7. I can go in and out of sleep or hibernate without issue but if I ever shut down my system it will BSOD during the next power on. After this initial BSOD there are usually a series of BSOD (usually they report different error codes) in subsequent restarts. Eventually the system does seem to stabilize and stop crashing. Once things are working it will run for literally months without another BSOD.
