Shutdown And System Open Up Same Program / Web Pages On Next Boot?
Aug 6, 2011
Is there a computer program that will allow me to shut-down my computer and then when I turn the computer on it will be exactly the same as when I logged off, i.e programs and webpages restored?

I am running Windows 7 on both my new Desktop and my 2 year old laptop. My laptop was the first to receive the upgrade to 7 and has been working awesomely. The start up is phenomenal and shutdown is no hassle, however my laptop runs on the 32 bit software. Now my desktop, I just recently upgraded it to 7 last week however I haven't noticed the same performance boost as I have on my laptop. I do run 64 bit on my desktop, but I am curious as to why the shutdown and startup times are rather slow.
I have gone as far as to limit the start up programs as well as some of the boot options being the GUI boot and maximizing the number of processors that are used during startup. Sometimes even during the start up the screen goes black for a few minutes after I enter my login password. I have Intel Quad Core 2 with 8GB Ram and TB of Hard Drive space. I just don't understand why it takes much longer to start and shut down when my laptop with less performance can.

I have a problem with BROWSING the WWW when i am logged into tunngle, i am also unable to log into uPlay for example, which is used for playing Far Cry 3. The weird thing is, that my P2P and Skype continue to work without any issues. If it's any good, my internet connection isn't stable neither when I'm NOT logged to tunngle. Some times my browser works normally, sometimes it doesn't work at all and it acts like I'm not connected to the internet , however, P2P works all the time, even when the browser is "dead".

I tried to open a program using the open with option and it changed the icons for every program on my laptop. I changed the desktop (network, my computer etc) icons back to default but can't manage to change the others. If i go into properties for the program and change it that way it doesn't do anything.

Are netbooks supposed to take 10-30 seconds (timed. usually 25) a page on the Internet, and a very long time to open it and control panel. To be at 75-80% physical memory with nothing on, and spike from 10-100% CPU usage. Is this just how netbooks are? Or are yours as fast as P4/Laptops? Is there something defective..if not just going to be returning it you know.Aspire One 522 with a AMD Dual-Core C-50 1GHz Processor. 1GB RAM It's brand new. Running Windows 7 starter.Tried Firefox too.

I've recently been having problems opening some pages in Internet Explorer. Today for example I wanted to go to HP's support site. I got to the main site but when I clicked on Product Support the page wouldn't open and the message 'javascript:void(0)' appeared in the bottom left hand corner. It seems to be a fairly random problem as it only affects some websites.

I have a ASUS Laptop with Intel I3 processer and Windows 7 Home Premium. I recently had a forced shutdown during a Windows upgrade session. Ever since then the Boot and Shutdown times have increased to over 15 minutes. I have run the msconfig unticking all but the antivirus (Kaspersky) and it still takes >15 min to boot and Shutdown. Is there something I can do before I decide to reinstall Windows &. (I dont have a install disk.) The software came with the Computer and I have the OEM code (Bought at Best Buy)

I tried to set a program to run on shutdown, but both solutions found in the Internet are for Win XP, so in Windows 7 they failed: placing shortcuts to Start Menu > Programs > Shutdown or using gpedit.msc (it's just not present, as soon as I can see). I also tried using the Task Scheduler but I don't know how to set the shutdown event

I have a program that needs to be shut down before I shut down my comp. I have a tweak that forces shut downs but I would prefer to have an automatic shut down sequence so I can have that particular program shut down before the comp shuts down. Is it possible to create a shutdown sequence?

My VPN network has a habit of disconnecting me at odd times while I am sending files and my computer automatically then reconnects me directly thru my IP provider Comcast which is not as secure as I'd like.Is there a way to have the shutting down of one program (VPN) automatically shut down another (TeamViewer etc)?I read today about programs such as KillIt? but could not find much info on its working that is within my limited expertise.

There was a program with which one could track the system shutdown processes - but I forgot the name of it.My system is getting ridiculous. It has always been slow at shutdown. That's why I set the Reg Key to 2000ms. But that does not help. The system boots in 15 seconds but needs 2 minutes to shut down. And that from a M4 SSD and an i7 CPU with 8GBs of RAM.

My girlfriend recently lent me her laptop (Windows 7 32bit) it was still using IE so when I go to install chrome the built in 'security program' (Windows 7 internet security 2011 or something like that) tells me that chrome is a threat and wont let me use it.. Now after finding out that Windows 7 internet security 2011 is a joke and just wants my money I run spybot search and destroy, it finds plenty of viruses and such like which are all removed. Now I have the strange problem...When I try to run any program or file the 'open this file with' window comes up. With some programs I can browse the program files and locate the program, select open with (I can't select 'always use the selected program') and away we go, but with others it simply doesn't open or will open the program in the background (unusable) and give me the 'open with' window again.. I have tried putting the Malwarebytes installer on USB but the laptop still gives me the 'open with' window when I try to install that

Im having a problem with opening files I use to open with two programs. One is mkv, vob and divx files with homecinema. And snes roms with an emulator. Basically win 7 would let me select the program and it would show up on the list of programs to use. I would select always use and I'm done. But I moved the folders containing the files to a different folder and now my two programs I use will not show up in the open with list. I now have to go to the program itself and search for the files. Its a pain because I could click on the files and get right to them.

i have been having problems shutting down my system. It gets as far as the blue screen with the Shutting Down text & thats it. I have hard drive activity for a few seconds & then nothing & im forced to turn off holding the power button in. I've use various tools to keep my system in top condition & this has only started over the last few weeks. Something i have noticed when i boot up is a black screen saying "Remove Boot execute record unsuccessfully NTSTATUS = 0XC0000001" after the windows 7 logo & then it loads into desktop normally. I can shut down perfectly fine if i've only been using the pc for a few minutes, but after a few hours it refuses to do so & its starting to have its toll on my system by forcing it to power off all the time. Sleep function works fine mostly, just the odd occasion when i try to wake from sleep & it just hangs on a blank screen & then after a minute my monitor goes into standby mode & then im forced to reset twice to override the system restore.

I have system crashes of two varieties, that have happened under both Windows 7 and Windows Vista : Sometimes (not all the time) the system will reboot when I choose shutdown/restart/hibernate/sleep and leave an Event 41 (Kernel Power) Task 63 in the EventViewer. This crash will happen many times in a row and then not at all for a week or two and then happen many times in a row.

At my school, every time you shut down the computer it wipes all user data (I believe) from the primary drive (or partition). So, every time the computer is started the primary drive/partition reverts to whatever restore point the IT department has set. I would like to do this to my personal computer, but the question is how? Is it something I can set the task scheduler to do? By doing some research I found that I can (not that I want to) create a new restore point at every start up with task scheduler, so it seems only logical that I can load a restore point of my choice at every start up without having to physically go into system restore at every start up.
I have 2x 600GB WD Velociraptors in RAID 0 configuration divided into 2 partitions. The (primary) C: contains Windows 7 Pro x64 and related files and the (secondary) G: has everything else (i.e. all of my developer tools, games, and misc files that all have a scheduled back up onto an external). I would like the C: to revert to the restore point of my choice at every start up. If it is a "simple" script to perform this task...great! But, if it requires extreme diligence (like an entire IT department to maintain)... forget it, it's not that big of a deal.

This is something I have seen occur multiple times in 17 years of using windows, after a unexpected shutdown windows i/o performance slows right down and I still dont have the answer to it.
Today I accidently cut the power to my pc, so windows didnt crash it just lost power.
Windows took about twice as long to boot. After it had booted the system hdd was very busy doing I dont know why (wasnt superfetch or virus scanning). The i/o was used by the system process. Outlook took a looooong time to open. it then also took a very long time to close deleting the deleted emails which are usually way faster. Internet explorer took about 2 minutes to restore crashed tabs which was massive disk i/o. Opening tiny apps where the hdd light either flashes very briefly or doesnt come on at all have a noticeable 1-2 sec delay with the light on solid.
I expect after a manual defrag things will be back to normal. Dos all the prefetch data get trashed on a unexpected shutdown or something?

I accidently managed to delete all files in my c:/users directory and now my system won't go into standby or hibernate mode. It just shows a blank screen when I choose either or these but the PC never hibernates or sleeps and the only way to get it out of this state is a hard shutdown. I deleted all Files/Folders except my own user folder.

I'm having an issue where after I have connected to my office network my USB ports seem to stop working and the laptop will not shutdown.
The USB ports that were connected to devices prior to connecting to the office network keep working but no new devices are detected.
When shutdown the laptop sits at the shutting down screen indefininately.
I have had this issue with two HP laptops now but other within the office are using the same laptops without fault. Also I have had this laptop for a few months now without fault. I dont have auto updates turned on so it shouldn't be something intorduced by an update.

Before turning off gives error msg "... windows has encountered problem and could not complete the installation..". Have Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L v2.0 motherboard/ 4GB GSkill RAM/Intel-e8400 processor. Wondering if it's hardware driver issues or BIOS problem.Tried turning off all peripherals in BIOS but no success.
