Sharing Files And Printers Between Win7x64 And Wp

Jan 4, 2010

I have a brand new Windows 7 professional x64 system. I have just today established a wireless network between that computer and my old XP computer. The Windows 7 box has a wireless antenna and the XP box has a hardwired broadband modem that is capable of wireless. It all works fine. I can access the Internet from my wireless box through the broadband modem.

But now what I want to do is share files and perhaps even printers between the two computers. Can someone give me a step-by-step to get the two systems to see each other or point me to a previous thread or link.

Sharing Printers From Xp To 64 Bit Windows 7 Not Working

Oct 17, 2011

i have the opposite, a bran new (old) desktop running win Xp 32 bit, and using 3 laptops in the home all running win 7 64bit, now when i tried to configure something els, i actually made the printers(plugged into the xp desktop) shared in my home network to be able to print without having to plug the printer in. Since This morning, the printers have gone missing from all ym laptops, but not from the desktop, yet ive followed most step by step guides i found on the net, about sharing between xp and win 7, and the printers never came back, and this is a BIG issue now.. i have 3 printers... 1 HP laser jet, and 2 canon, but we mostly use the laserjet one its the Hp Color Laserjet cp1215

Vista / 7 - Problems With File Sharing / Printers

Dec 30, 2009

I have a Belkin wireless 'N' Router which is connected through a cable connection to my desktop with Vista OS. There is also a wireless enabled HP 110 Mini Netbook with Windows 7 Starter Edition OS on which connects to the Belkin router. For some reason when I click on 'Network' and right click and hit explore from the Vista computer to look at the Netbooks files it will not let me... both File Sharing and Pulblic File Sharing are turned on.

The networks are both configured to "Home Networks". Also I am unsure how to get my printer (A non-wireless enabled HP Photosmart C4200 which is wired to my Vista computer) onto the network for use on the Netbook. This concerns me as it says all USB printers should so up in the network by default. Does anyone have any suggestions or help?

ASUS VW222U Win7x64 Drivers

Jun 5, 2009

I've been searching high and low for these drivers, ASUS' driver installers for Vista64 don't recognise Windows 7, and it seems they use the same installer for XP and Vista32.

My monitor is being forced to 59Hertz and thus not allowing games to enable vertical sync.

I have all the latest nVidia drivers (185.85 W7x64 / 9600GT), and all my m/board and chipset drivers are x64 and up to date.

Any ideas?

Installed Printers Not Displayed In Devices & Printers?

Jun 29, 2009

I have installed the following printers: Epson LX-300+II, HP Laserjet 1010, HP Colour Lasterjet 1515, Canon IP5200.

The printers work and are all displayed from Word, IE, etc, but only one printer shows up in Windows 7 Devices & Printers - usually whichever is selected as default printer. If I remove the displayed printer, it shows me another one. When I first installed, it showed me all the printers, but problems started after I had to remove and reinstall my printers.

Sharing Windows 7 Files From XP?

Aug 24, 2012

Okay so I recently replaced my desktop and it has win7 and my old PC which I want to use as a backup for files and the many programs I just don't use much and cannot be bothered installing on the new machine. I have had a bitch of a time getting so that I can read files on the Win 7 from XP. No problem going the other way.

Here is what I had to do after following the instructions found in the sticky [General Discussion] Windows 7 Tips and the section from From mrface As after following all instructions I was still unable to access the files from XP what I did was go to My Data section drive partition and right clicked each folder (only 3 so not that big a deal) clicked on share with then "specific people" and then added everyone from the drop down box then gave read read/write permission and clicked share.

This seems to work but I wonder if there is not an easier way of creating this share for everyone in all folders. Not so bad with a few but a nuisance if lots and need to add new folders in future having to remember to do this.

Sharing Folders And Files Windows 7?

Dec 25, 2011

I am trying to share folders on my deskop with my laptop, but I need something that will allow me to edit photos in lightroom on my laptop that are stored on my desktop via Lightroom. Thought that maybe windows 7 "homegroup" feature might allow me to do this, but when I try and setup a homegroup on my desktop it says "Cannot create a homegroup on this computer"Accessing my desktop via logmein.com, to try and set this up. My desktop is currently several miles away, and I need to access those files. I read something about deleting a file in /peernetworking/idstore.sst - Deleted it and rebooted, still get the same error.

Windows 7 Laptop Cannot Access Files Or Printers On Windows 7 Desktops

I have an HP Pavilion dm4t-2100 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, the OS with which it was installed. I am connected to a Homegroup which also contains a laptop and two desktops.I am able to connect through the network to the other laptop and remotely view files and devices on that laptop. However, I cannot see past the names of the two desktops. This means I cannot read or write files on or install devices connected to either desktop computer. The desktops can see each other and both laptops (R/W).The laptops can see each other (R/W), but neither one can see either desktop ("Cannot find the network path"; ping command fails). Is there a setting I can change either on the laptops or on the desktops to enable connectivity? Homegroup File Sharing - No Permissions To Add Or Rename Files

Feb 5, 2011

Having difficulty with a homegroup and file sharing: one desktop PC with the family's main documents (which are on a separate drive to the system) and two laptops which need to access those documents. I've got them all seeing each other, and they can see the folders in the drive, but when I try to add files or rename files, it tells me that I need permission. I've gone through the advance settings to make sure the correct permission is selected, they all have the same workgroup name and different computer names. Sharing the printer attached to the desktop is fine.

Windows Vista Shared Files And Printers Won't Appear On Windows 7?

Mar 18, 2011

I have a laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. My desktop has Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit. I have been trying to allow folder sharing between the two, but it won't work.

On my desktop, I can access all my files from my laptop. However, when I try to access the shared files from Vista on my laptop, it takes forever and then I get a message that says "Windows cannot access \BILL-PC." But I can access all of the media files.

They are both on the same network entitled WORKGROUP.

So far, I have done the following on both PCS

- Enabled sharing of the printer itself.

- Gave permissions to 'everyone' and full access under c:windowssystem32spoolprinters.

- Added guest users that share all files and folders.

They are obviously on the same network since I can see them both listed. However, why it keeps telling me it cannot access my desktop.

Device And Printers Does Not See All Printers

Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit Control Panel -> Devices and Printers show some printers (PDF995 and Microsoft XPS Document Writer) but it does not show my HP OfficeJet 4500. Applications (like IE or Firebird) show it in the list of printer and can print to it.

Edit: I forgot to mention, I am running in the Administrator account and both the laptop and the printer on the same WiFi router. The printer showed up in Device Manager after I clicked Display Hidden Devices (kind of silly to hide devices from the Administrator.)

Sharing Files Between Windows 7 And Windows 8 In A Homegroup

Oct 6, 2012

I'm quite frustrated after trying to share files between my Windows 8 PC and Windows 7 Laptop. Sharing files between Windows 7 PC and laptop was flawless.

I tried creating a homegroup in Windows 7, joined it from Windows 8, when I tried to open shared files, it gave permission error. I've disabled password protection on both PC. Tried adding HomeGroupUsers$ in Advanced persmissions of folder sharing, still the same.

Tried other way round too i.e created a homegroup in Windows 8 and joined it from Windows 7. Still the same issue of permission.

HomeGroup Printers

Jul 15, 2009

i have a pc (Windows 7 build 7100) that is connected to two printers (of which one prints (HP laserjet CP1215) and one only scans (no ink)) and it shares those printer.

My Windows 7 build 7600 (on my main pc) added the scan-printer without asking me and didn't add the other one (the only one I can print). I then disconnected this one from the other pc and looked again, no install here.

While I used build 7100 with my main pc too, it asked me: "Do you want to install HomeGroup printer?" and it worked like a charm.

Now I tried to manually add this printer and it asked me for a driver.

I installed the HP drivers but still, not working. Then, when it asked me again to point to the .inf file, i selected the one HP-driver-installation installed (to my C:Program files folder) but it said this driver is from a "non-certified" publisher (or something like this, sadly I can't reproduce this so I don't remember the exact words).

I clicked "install nonetheless" because I knew it was the right driver (printer prints perfectly from all other Windows 7 workstations).

Now when I try to connect to the printer (still not showing up in "Devices and printers" it tries to connect, looks for a driver, kinda finds one and then tells me, it can't connect.

I cannot even select a new driver or anything, I can only close the window.

On all my other pcs (I only use Windows 7 since the RC) it works and worked without problems. I miss the "Install Homegroup printer" prompt and well ...

any ideas?

ah well i installed 32bit versions of the driver and now i downloaded 64bit versions, but even after installing it doesn't work and as I've said before, I cannot manually select a driver inf file anymore, so ... I can't install the printer.

Cannot Install ANY Printers

May 16, 2012

Everything was running fine until today when I came to print from Word 2010 which said "word cannot print , no printer installed". The printer showed up as "ready" and was set as default. After trying the usual stuff (loose connections, firewalls and reboots etc) I opted to reinstall the printer (hp c3180). This got me nowhere with a message saying "fatal error". In the end I got a brand new canon mg2100 which also failed to install with the following message titled:RunDLL: There was a problem starting C:windowssystem32spoolDRIVERSx64cnmvsaq.dll access denied

Although I clicked ok to this at which point it said installation was complete. It still won't print any file picture or document but the new canon shows up as default. Furthermore, I am unable to uninstall the canon drivers (which show up in program's as being installed?!) as they are being used by another service" or words to that effect. I tried to install some Epsom drivers and they failed too!The only recent changes were on May 11 when a windows update completed. This may be nothing to do with it but thinking it was a problem with office I tried to uninstall office 2010 and it would not uninstall due to "corrupted files" even though I was using the disc.my last restore point was earlier today and nothing prior stored. I have the original windows disc which came with the pc. I checked the printer spooler service and it was running.

1. Driver won't install without error of some sort (different for each printer)

2. Canon driver won't uninstall due to being in use

3. Latest drivers used - yes!

4. Windows up to date - yes! Recent update.

5. Office functions normally but won't uninstall

6. Said printers work fine on other machines

7. Firewall and antivirus off for installation.

Devices And Printers

In this tutorial, we demonstrate the new Devices and Printers section of the control panel. This new feature of Windows 7 aims to make it easier to work with and troubleshoot peripheral devices, such as printers, monitors, external storage devices and game controllers. Instead of trying to find your device in a big long list, Devices and Printers tries to assign an icon to it which represents the actual device more clearly.
