I have my laptops configured to shut down when I press the power button. Problem is it stops at a screen telling me that some programs are running and I have to click to "Force Shutdown" on these programs before it shuts down. Otherwise it just sits there like a jackass until the battery runs down--or forever if it is on AC power.
Is there a way to force this computer to shut down when the power button is pressed--without further user participation.

Jul 31, 2011I have a Dell Desktop running Windows 7, 64 bit. I usually run Mozilla Firefox each time I use my computer. When I shut down my computer, I do so without closing Firefox because I want to be able to quickly re-access the open browsers when I later restart my computer and Mozilla Firefox. The problem is that a screen appears asking if I want to force a shutdown because some Firefox process is still running. So the computer will not shut down unless I indicate that I want to force a shutdown and then a second click is required to confirm this. If I don't do this two step process, the computer will remain on indefinitely. This is pretty annoying. I have a laptop which also runs Window 7, but for some reason, the force shutdown issue does not arise - the computer just shuts down even when I leave Mozilla Firefox open when shutting off the laptop.Does anyone know how to change this so that the computer will automatically force the shutdown without me having to do the 2 step process to get it to do so?

BSOD Randomly / Checked Dmp Files / 3 Different Reasons Given

-5GB Ram
-Athlon II X@ 250 processor 3 GHz
-The machine is around a year old
It randomly gives BSOD. I have checked the dump files and it seems to show at least 3 possible reasons depending on the file. I have updated drivers from the manufacturers sites directly to try and fix the problem. Other solutions I found for the various error codes did not seem to apply.BTW- Please don't pay attnetion to the dump files created on 4-1-12. I know why those happened. It was my error.

Ever since then the Boot and Shutdown times have increased to over 15 minutes. I have run the msconfig unticking all but the antivirus (Kaspersky) and it still takes >15 min to boot and Shutdown. Apr 16, 2012I have two windows updates that keep failing. When i go to shutdown my computer I always have an update icon attached to the shutdown key. The download is always 1of1. Then when i reboot, the update icon is still there. I'm thinking since the two updates are failing, it has something to do with the 1of1 update not downloading properly. I went to windows update to check for new updates, and the only one is the two that keep failing. My computer just blue screened on shutdown today, winch got me thinking i really need to fix this.
