View 2 Replies View RelatedI tried using WinZip, a friend said that it's possible to password protect a ZIP file but I am unable to do so. I don't like WinRar and 7Zip much for daily use, so I would like to have an alternative to password protect my folders/files.
I have heard and read about many 3rd party softwares, but all of them create a separate folder in which I have transfer the files, similar to a real life locker. But the kind of software I need is the one which has the ability to right click a folder/file and set a password, and whenever someone clicks on it, the password is asked.
I DO NOT want the folder/file to be invisible, I want it to be visible but protected by a password. built-in or a 3rd party software to do so? I'm on Windows 7 Home Premium (32 bit).
Is it possible to password protect a folder (or folders) in Windows 7 somehow? I have several possible uses for this. One of them: At work all my colleagues and myself uses a common computer. On this computer I've installed Dropbox with personal files. Although we all have our own user account on the computer, we all are administrators, meaning everyone can, if they want to, enter my Dropbox folder. I'd love to have a password on this folder so that only I can open the folder.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI would like to password protect a few folders on Windows 7, how can I do this? Ideally when someone would click on the folder there would be a prompt asking for a password, similar to what happens when you make a .zip and password protect it.
The only software I found till now which comes closest to my needs is Protected Folder, however you have to open the program each time and unlock the folder you want to use, then re lock it when ready, it's not so straightforward as I was imagining. Also I don't know if access will be blocked from other users on the network, once the folder is shared.
I just purchased an Asus rt-n66u Router. Found Here: [URL] I haven't hooked it up yet, as it's a Christmas gift to me from my wife and she don't know it yet...lol...So, I'm not sure if there is any software that comes with it to do such a thing as it's wrapped under the tree...
Basically, I want to hook my 3TB External USB HDD to the Router, so that all our devices can share the media on it, but I want it password protected so if someone else comes in the House, they can't access anything on there and only we are allowed to access it. I'm not sure if the whole drive can be locked or just specific folders on the drive.
Ohh, I'm running Windows 7 Pro x64, my other devices are all random. Including Mac, Windows XP, Windows 8, Windows 7 Student ed...

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy Windows 7 Home Premium x64-based system will not prompt me for a password after the system resumes from standby or from the screen saver. I have both settings in place - I have the screensaver's "On resume, display logon screen" check box selected, AND I have the Power settings option set to "require a password on wakeup". However, neither setting works. I even set the "ScreenSaverIsSecure"="1" registry entry, but it had no effect. After the system resumes from standby or when the screen saver closes, the desktop is available with no password prompt. If I manually log off, or reboot the system, I am prompted to select a user and type the password, so the passwords are correctly in place.

2.Subsequently I made the locker invisible using "Folder Protect" software.
3.When I was trying to add more files to the locker created in 1 the locker tried to "increase it's size on the run"...
4.This process failed and "Folder Lock" shut down and since then I cannot locate the locker anymore on my PC nor can I see it in "Folder Protect"
5.Having read on a forum, I uninstalled "Folder Protect" and reinstalled...but that did not help..I still could not find the Locker.
6.I even uninstalled and reinstalled "Folder Lock"...even this did not help
7.I understand the lockers created by "Folder Lock" are UNDELETABLE.
8.Clearly my locker is somewhere on my hard disk but I am unable to locate it.
Over the past week I have been prompted for multiple windows updates. Some have worked, some have not. I had a tiny box show up last night saying that my computer was going to run maintenance and I delayed it. As I shut down, it gave me the installing or configuring updates blue screen. This morning I got that screen again, got to 100% before it told me it failed. Opened windows and all looked ok.Now I cannot open webpages. IE/firefox/Opera all open, but none can open any website. I get the usual screen you get when you can't access a page. Internet is working in the house. I've tried multiple other devices. Wireless is turned on with the laptop and I attempted to run the troubleshooter for my wireless connection. It says the connection is fine.

(and hamachi2)I have tried to make a user (test) and the password (test, on that user).I have tried to share the folder, and just grant access for the test user. And I can see it if I use another computer, but I can`t access it.The other Pc I use, do not have the Test user installed, and that is the way I want it.I don`t want to add the user to all computers. I just want to give it a password, so you have to know that to go in to the folder.

I'm trying to share a folder on my computer (N:TV, where N is an internal hard disk) on my local area network. Two media centers connect to this folder. Until this week, they connected just fine using no username or password. Suddenly, they want to know a password -- and even entering my Windows credentials (my user account being the only one on the machine), access is denied.
I've selected the folder I want to share, and viewed its properties. It's shared with Everyone for reading. I can access the folder by opening \Mycomputer\TV in Explorer.Network discovery is turned off. File and printer sharing is turned on. Password protected sharing is turned off. All three machines are in the same workgroup.
I just noticed two of my computers are automatically sharing the entire user's directory with all permissions for everyone, I was reading up on this a bit before and it seems it's a Windows bug. I was wondering, since the password protected sharing is turned on by default, would anyone have been able to gain access to my computers information if they didn't have a user account / password or would they need an account / password no matter what the permissions are set to.
