Possible To Bypass The User System Completely?
Sep 20, 2012
There is only one user on my computer - me. So is it possible to bypass the user system completely or would that require a full re-write of the filing system? Seems to me that I have little if any control over where files are stored. For instance, every time I download a file, it is stored in downloads by default. I then have to fish it out from this directory to save it where I want it saved.

I have an HP Pavilion dv7 that I logon to using the fingerprint reader. However, I have other accounts that do not have enrolled fingerprints, and use their username and password to login. Right now it's only giving the option to scan the fingerprint (to login as me). How do I get it to show the screen where others can login?

Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on HP DC7600.I was really surprised that this old Microsoft issue/problem somehow got carried over all the way from the bad old days to new/shiny Windows 7.I have a main User account with Administrator privileges that is my 'daily driver'.I recently created a second User Account for Test purposes.[I'm a tech and need to try things sometimes].A week or so ago I "deleted" the User Account using the proper method...the way MS would have me to, in the UAC settings Control Panel. Today, due to another issue I am now having [never had before] I got to wondering if the old issue of ever-present zombie User Accounts was in this rig. YES it is. Checked into Documents & Settings and Registry and the account is still there in one state or another. How do I COMPLETELY eradicate that Account and all its traces?

Very slow operations like Start button, start an application, switch between windows. Sometimes stalls completely. Sometimes freezes so I have to go with power button. When inside an application - not so bad. I am having this PC second hand for about a year, getting worse gradually. AVG antivirus and tuneup say all is fine.

Now even I did delete all backup files in E: drive. But looks like that 160 gb system image still in my E: drive. Because when I check my E: drive properties I still missing 160 gb space so I think that system image still in there somewhere. How can I completely delete that system image to free up that 160 gb space on my hard drive.

Which is totaly unusual as everything switches off automaticaly after complete shutdown in normal cpu condition.

My old computer was getting old, so I went ahead and ordered new parts from Newegg. HAF 912 case, GTX 560 Ti, Phenom II x4 975, 8 gigs G.Skill (2 x 4) 1333 DDR3, and a Biostar A880G+ mATX motherboard, and Windows 7 Home Premium OEM (in case). I planned on using the same HDD from my old system in the new one, so I didn't order a new one. Well, I built it, everything went smooth, it POSTed with one beep and the BIOS was fine. However, when I tried to boot from my drive, it would give a System Error screen, with either Repair Computer (or something similar) and Start Windows Normally. If I click Repair Computer, it stays that way for upwards of 30 minutes, not doing a thing. If I start Windows normally, the logo flashes for a second or two and BSoD's real quick, and shuts down before I can even see anything. Then it restarts and goes to the System Error screen. Then, when I take my HDD and put it in my old system, it boots up same as is always does. That's how I'm typing here.
I've also tried changing the boot order so that the Windows 7 disc is first, but it just goes to Set Up, which is, I'm guessing, not what I want to happen.I'm hoping that it's a really simple mistake on my part, and that I messed up on something super easy, because I don't want to have to send back any parts.

When I set up my Win XP computer I was able to by-pass having to enter my password at start-up.
When I set up my new Windows 7 machine I didn't even think about it.But now, having to enter the password every time is getting to be a pain. Is there anyway to fix this so that I can start my machine and walk away knowing it will be fully in windows and ready to go when I come back?

I'm working on a Windows 7 laptop for which the user has forgotten the password. So, putting my windows 7 DVD in, I boot into System Recovery and go to a command window. I try to change the user password for "User X" as it displays at login, and the system kindly informs me "User X" doesn't exist.
Using net user, I see that the only two users that exist are "Administrator" and "Guest". So, I activate administrator using "net user administrator /activate:yes". Then I change the password of administrator.
Rebooting into safe mode, I find "User X" and "Guest" still my only options. I try the password I set for administrator (since User X doesn't exist), but that doesn't work.

Thought I'd come back to see if you guys found a way to bypass the upgrade and do a fresh install of Win 7 with an "upgrade" installer/DVD. Any luck?
Or, did Microsoft make it impossible to do?
