View 1 Replies View RelatedThe subject of Acrobat PDF printer has come up before, here, and on other forums, but usually it's about installing the Acrobat PDF printer (or lack thereof after an install), this is not the case for this post. This topic is about having different behavour on two nearly identical machines. One PC can print from IE9 to the Acrobat PDF printer, the other can't and I can't figure out why.(the other one does create a PDF, but it's void of content except for the header/footer from IE)Here's the paramaers:
Desktop PC running Windows 7 x64 (w/updates to 9-2011)
Laptop PC running Windows 7 x32 (w/updates to 9-2011)
Both loaded with Acrobat Pro v8.3.1
Both running IE9 (32bit) v9.0.8112.16421
When I print to the "Adobe PDF" printer (print dialog box, where you would normally select your printer), the "Adobe PDF" printer is indeed listed and selectable, but after selecting the "Adobe PDF" printer, the next dialog box that is presented it the standard Windows "Save As" dialog box and this is where the weirdness starts... and the Laptop never prints the content properly.

The two "issues" I'm posting for help here are these:
1.) the Desktop PC actually prints the webpages into a PDF, the Laptop will not(on the Laptop, it does create a file, but always 1 page only, void of content except for the header/footer from IE)
2.) The Desktop install seems to know it's a webpage and uses some of the webpage URL/link as a suggested filename, the Laptop always inserts a random alpha-numeric filename as if it has no clue of the source.
I have spent hours looking at all available settings for both IE9 and Acrobat8 and they are both identical, I can't quite figure out why one prints the webpages into a PDF and the other won't. (both Acroat installations and updates are from the same disc).I've posted this on other forums before, usually all I get are the obligatory reply's like "oh you should try ***PDF instead" and "Acrobat 8 isn't supported in Windows 7"... etc. Well all that would be fine ...except... it does work on the Desktop PC so I can put to rest the "isn't supported" notion because it does work on my Desktop PC.
My wife has Windows 7 home premium x64 on her laptop and is using Word 2007. The problem she is having is she will open a word file, change it up, save it, then re-open it later and its the old file not the new one. Where as I can open the edited file on my desktop running the same OS but with Word 2010 and the file that opens for me is the newest version.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm a little perplexed with AAR10 with regards to magnification...? I have purchased some eBooks from Waterstones, a lot cheaper than an actual book... okay, whenever I open the PDF files they are magnified at such an inane percentage I have to decrease it to 100%. Is there a way in which you can alter the magnification to 100% so it stays at 100% other than the default 250% which is just ridiculous.AD Forum said to the change the magnification and then saving the PDF as a different name, does it change the settings... dose it $@^(" It's no bother changing the magnification, it's just a pain in the butt.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently started having problems on two computers that both run Win 7 64-bit. The problem is that when opening a PDF file I get this box indicating to choose these options and then there is a check box to not ask me about it again. If I check it off, it goes away. Then when I try to close the tab that houses the PDF file, it will crash IE with acroread.dll being the culprit. What happens next is that if I try to read another PDF, the same box that I already told not to come up again will come back. It seems like it isn't getting the proper permissions to hold this setting. I found a fix via Google that said to just open up the Reader program and check off the box there -- that fixed the pop up box problem. The remaining problem is that gardless of if I update to the latest version of either program, I continue to have IE's tab crash whenever I close the tab that houses the PDF file.

Im having a problem with opening files I use to open with two programs. One is mkv, vob and divx files with homecinema. And snes roms with an emulator. Basically win 7 would let me select the program and it would show up on the list of programs to use. I would select always use and I'm done. But I moved the folders containing the files to a different folder and now my two programs I use will not show up in the open with list. I now have to go to the program itself and search for the files. Its a pain because I could click on the files and get right to them.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAny time I try to open an .exe file, or a shortcut to an .exe file, I get an error message saying that Windows cannot find the file.I've tried moving files to different locations, but nothing works. When I restart in Safe Mode everything opens fine, so I'm worried it's some kind of virus or malware causing the problem.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently was perusing some unsavory websites (I'm sure you can guess) today and all of a sudden I got these messages which I started to ignore. Then it said that my flash player could not be run, or something like that. The main thing was that something has hijacked my computer, preventing me from running ANY exe file, including my Trend Micro Maximum Security; HijackThis; System Restore; etc. I called Trend Micro and they could not help me either. I think I had glimpsed something that looked like it said "worm32" which leads me to believe that it is a worm that is infecting my computer. I keep getting the same message whenever I open any exe file: "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the default programs panel." I went into the default programs panel and found about 108 extensions that the current default is "unknown application". Some of these extensions include .386, .asp, .bat, .chk, and .cmd to name a few.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm really at my wit's end with this current issue I'm having. I recently got some spyware "pw.exe" which posed as "Win 7 Internet Security". I do not recall what I did to get rid of this issue, but the rogue anti-virus software is no longer posting imaginary warning messages. Avast shows no threats + Malwarebytes removed all the remaining threats. As a workaround, I created a 2nd Administrator account and was able to connect and open up Firefox to browse for some fixes. This was before Malwarebytes removed the threats (LOG AT END OF POST)I previously used to not be able to open any .exe files on the 1st admin account due to some permission issue related to the spyware. After the spyware/trojan removal - I have messed up .exe file associations and cannot access "regedit.exe" either through "run" or "cmd". I keep getting a "Cannot find C:Windowsegedit.exe" despite the file still being there. The only way to get cmd is through task manager by CTRL + clicking "Open new Process". Only problem is, I don't where to go from there.[CODE]

View 3 Replies View RelatedHere is a rundown of what happened. I was on the computer, not doing anything online and suddenly the computer shuts down and restarts. Upon restarting, windows (I'm running Windows 64 bit Home Premium) appears to not be able to open. It promptly displayed a new loading bar with "Loading Windows Files" or something like that. I attempted to reboot in safe mode, lastest working config, etc but nothing worked. I ran hardware checks including memory checks and nothing appeared to be wrong. When trying to run the repair utility, there was a startuprepairoffline error and the issue could not be fixed. I attempted a system restore but it said the restore failed. However, upon restarting my computer, it loaded to Windows and said restore was successful. Now that I somehow have Windows up, I am unable to use any programs of any kind besides cmd, regedit, etc. I have attempted to download the exe_fix_w7 file however it will not merge with the existing registry as it says that some are in use. I have tried both in safe mode as well as normal but to no use. I attempted to manually edit the lines which seems possible however I'm unsure if I did it correctly. So basically I'm stuck at not being able to open any files at the moment. I'm still not entirely sure there isn't something wrong with the hardware as on start up the computer now makes a sound on the Dell splash screen as if something is shutting down internally, however the BIOS diagnostic had everything passing so it may be nothing.
