ATI Card For Win7

Oct 20, 2009

I can't decide which to go with, so I'm looking for suggestions

Only requirements: native HDMI out, since this will be a HTPC/mid gaming rig, also, keep it under $150 maybe?

Thoughts?

I'd like Direct X 11, but all the cards that do are only 128-bit..

PCI Sound Card For Win7

Nov 12, 2009

I clean installed (this is the 4th time) I went one component at a time. After initial boot I have Internet, install XFI gamer and it kills my network card!? so now I have figured it is the sound-card drivers.

My question is, is there a PCI sound-card that actually works with windows 7 Home? This mother board has no on-board audio. Apparently Creative screwed the pooch on this one, again! any suggestions.

What Sound Card Will Work With Win7 64?

Dec 14, 2009

Ok, so I have that problem with the Creative cards where it doesn't play nice with my Nvidia chipset and Win 7 64. Horrible sound when it works at all, clicks and pops and crackles. But most of the time it doesn't work at all.

The sound card in question is the X-fi Platinum I believe, and my mobo is an Asus A8N Deluxe.

I have been totally unable to find any information on decent sound cards that WILL work given my equipment. I would like to find something that provides rich sound similar to the X-fi Platinum. It was great while it lasted. Now I can't even get the crappy onboard sound to work!

ATI Card Works Fine In Win 7 Ult RC, Not In Win7 Prof

Oct 28, 2009

I've been using the Windows 7 Ultimate release candidate as an evaluation copy for a while now with no problems. I have an ATI radeon mobility X1600 graphics card in my laptop and I'm using an external monitor through my laptop's DVI port. I bought a product key for Windows 7 professional and therefore had to reinstall that version because I'm using Ultimate as the evaluation copy. I have each version on its own partition so I can switch back and forth between the two.

The problem is that the newly installed windows professional copy will not recognize my ATI graphics card and I can't use my external monitor. It has the standard windows VGA adapter drivers installed. I've installed and run the ATI file i downloaded off their site, '9-9_beta_win7_32_dd_CC', and this accomplishes nothing. I looked in device manager on the working ultimate version and the card is installed correctly so I copied all of the drivers and files it says its using and then tried to update the driver for the standard windows VGA adapter and it says it can't find any better drivers than the current ones.

I remember initially having this same problem when I first installed the Windows 7 Ultimate RC several months ago but I have no clue how I was able to get it to work... Any ideas?

Is Hd Video Card 4650 Compatible With Win7?

Nov 26, 2009

I installed a Radeon ATI XFX HD 4650 PCI, 2DDR, 1gig, video card into my vista desktop 3 months ago, and it worked perfectly. I only needed it to run 2 mintors a dvi and a vga. Yesterday I attempted to install Windows 7 and both screens went black. The device manager was unable to locate any video cards at all (the original had been removed).

I called Dell, and they told me that the card was not recognized, and therefore not compatible with "7". Then I called Radeon, and they said it was definitely compatible. The bottom line is I had to do a system restore to get back to Vista where all worked well again. i really need "7".

Network Card Name Reporting Incorrectly In Wireless Network List Area?

Will Adding A 2nd Network Card Improve Local Network Transfer Speed

Jan 23, 2013

This sounds really noobie of me but is it possible to improve local network transfer speed by adding a 2nd network card. I was planning to connect one exclusively for lan transfers and another one hooked to a separate wireless router.

Right now only a maximum of 3 users can stream SD videos off the PC before it gets a little choppy.

The pc in question runs on windows 7 and it's board has built in gigabit, I happen to have a spare gigabit card.

Network - XP Cannot Access Win7

Jun 9, 2009

I am having an apparently common problem: my Windows 7 machine can access my XP/SP3 laptop just fine but though the XP can see the Windows 7, it can't access it at all. What I get is...[Windows 7 machine] is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource... yada yada yada.

I've looked up the topic and this phrase and find lots of answers, some ridiculously complex (registry hacks?), most of them contradicting each other. Nothing I've found offers a step-by-step how-to.

I'm one of those who skipped Vista, so I'm not familiar with all the new security. When my home network was all XP, I just connected a computer to the workgroup, gave folder permissions, and go. (I don't use passwords.)

So how do I do it now?

There are/will be a lot of us moving to 7 straight from XP, and we need some sort of "you used to do this, now you must do this" type of guide.

Win7 Network Issues

Oct 17, 2009

This problem has become progressively worse.

It started out months ago, when ever I would try to do multiple things over my network connection on my Windows 7 machine, the network connection would just die, and I'd have to disable/enable my LAC to get a connection again.

This included opening up too many tabs in firefox, or trying to stream music off my other PC, play a game, use vent, and web browse etc. It seemed to be linked with the # of active connections I had.

Well now it's doing something entirely new, and I need help. When ever I try to do anything streaming, it's just not responding. It sets up the initial connection, downloads a little bit, then just stops responding. I can still go to web pages and load them easily (provided they're not large pages), but if I try to watch a video, it only loads parts and doesn't play.

I tried running the Pandora app I've used up until today without issue, and all it does is open, load the song, then stop. I tried streaming audio off my other PC, and all it does it load the play list, but doesn't play.

Win7 / WinXP Network Issues

Jan 5, 2010

For all the apparent attention to backward compatibility that MS says they put into Windows 7 I find that a Mixed Windows 7 / WinXp network is really problematic.

I am able to network Windows 7 MyDocuments without too much problem, though not as easily as a Windows 7 / Windows 7 or a WinXP / WinXP network. I am finding it impossible to connect to a second disk on my Windows 7 computer from an XP machine on my network. I can "see" the 2nd drive but am prevented from connecting ("blah, blah is not accessible, contact network administrator...").

One thing I have noticed from perusing this forum is that some people are having problems connecting from XP to 7, while others can not connect from 7 to XP. No consistency that I can see, which is cause for pause in my books.

The sharing permissions are set on the drive.

I hope the problem is mine and not systemic, because if anything is a Windows 7 deal-breaker would be it. Multi-computer organizations are not going to migrate their computer to Windows 7 en-mass, rather one computer at a time.

Any illumination on this problem will be greatly appreciated.

Win7 Unable To See 2008 R2 Server On Network

Aug 22, 2009

I just upgraded my fileserver to 2008 R2 (clean install) and also upgraded my home PC to Windows 7 (also a clean install). Both are connected together using a linksys 8-port gigabit switch and each machine has 2 NICs which are bridged. The server has a static IP and the workstation currently has a static IP as well (although I've had it set for DHCP and the problem still occurs). Network Discovery is enabled on both and they are both in the same workgroup.

Now with that being said, here's the issue.....

Periodically, the workstation no longer can "see" the server if I try to browse the network. However I can still ping the server by IP as well as name, browse fileshares and even RDP into it. The only thing that is affected is if I'm using a program on my PC and need to access files that are on a network share, then the server isn't listed under network to allow me to browse to the share.

When this happens, I can usually reboot the server and then it will show up, but there seems to be no set pattern as to when it will disappear. If both machines are left on and not rebooted, the server sometimes will just show up under Network for awhile and then disappear again. One final note, on the server, the workstation does show up when browsing the network.

Xp And Win7 Network Printer Connections Issue

Dec 18, 2009

I have all my printers connected to Windows 7 machine. I have an Xp machine connected via home network that I want to use the printer(s) over the network. Once I get the printer network connection established, it works fine except when I shut down the computers and restart them the next day. Even though the desired printer is showing "ready" on my Xp machine, I cannot print to it.

I believe that the Windows 7 machine is changing the printer Share name some times as I found out today. Once I make sure all names etc are the same and re-booting both machines it seems to work once again. Today I had no luck until I went to go to the shared file folders on the Windows 7 machine, Windows 7 asked me for sign in/password, then the printer started working.

I need to fix this, got something not configured correctly? Should not matter what machine is turned on first to get both machines networked together?

Windows 7 Emulator Available For Purchase?

I teach a variety of basic IST courses at a local college. I'd like to be able to familiarize my students with more than the "canned info" available in the text. Is there a Windows 7 shell program (for want of a better term) that would enable me to perform (simulated) Control Panel functions? The school IT Department has (for obvious reasons) restricted student permissions to most system features. However, if I were able to demonstrate tasks/functions of this type I'd be able to provide students with some "real world" knowledge that they could apply to their own PCs.

Can I Purchase Windows 7 Upgrade ?

Oct 1, 2009

Hope someone can help me! As a UK student I can from today purchase a copy of Windows 7 Home Premium [Upgrade] or Windows 7 Professional [Upgrade] 32/64-bit for £30. This is a fantastic offer and one which I am hoping to take advantage of.

I have a laptop that came pre installed with Vista Business (there is a legitimate serial stuck to the base of the machine) but after months of frustration with the OS I wiped it and installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit RC1, which I am delighted with.

The problem I now have is, if I purchase Windows 7 Pro Upgrade will I be able to install it? The website gives the option of a direct download for £30 or a direct download plus something called a "Disk Kit" for £39. If I have to do a clean install anyway, will it matter that I'm not running Vista or XP? Do I need the disk kit or does the download come in the form of an ISO which burns to DVD like the RC1?
