Xp And Win7 Network Printer Connections Issue
Dec 18, 2009
I have all my printers connected to Windows 7 machine. I have an Xp machine connected via home network that I want to use the printer(s) over the network. Once I get the printer network connection established, it works fine except when I shut down the computers and restart them the next day. Even though the desired printer is showing "ready" on my Xp machine, I cannot print to it.
I believe that the Windows 7 machine is changing the printer Share name some times as I found out today. Once I make sure all names etc are the same and re-booting both machines it seems to work once again. Today I had no luck until I went to go to the shared file folders on the Windows 7 machine, Windows 7 asked me for sign in/password, then the printer started working.
I need to fix this, got something not configured correctly? Should not matter what machine is turned on first to get both machines networked together?

Windows did not show any network connections in the network connections window. I tried everything that I could find online but nothing worked. As a last resort I decided to reinstall the driver for my Intel 82566DC-2 Gigabit network connection. I uninstalled the old driver and then installed the latest drivers but now I get code 31 (cannot find the driver software) in device manager and the connection doesn't work.

My laptop {NV53 Gateway} quit searching for networks, and eventually displayed no connections are available. I have looked for solutions all over the internet but I can't find any. The troubleshooter doesn't work for me. It says the driver is experiencing hardware issues, but I know it doesn't, because I looked in the device manager and it doesn't have any issue.
I am trying to figure out what the problem is, I've tried to connect to a network, that doesn't work & I've also tried setting up a new network but that doesn't work either. My Wifi button on my computer is on, and I do have a card installed on it, and it still doesn't show up with any networks. I did ipconfig/all and my Ethernet Adapter Local Area Connection says media disconnected only because I dont have it connected to ethernet...
On the other hand, it says:
Tunnel adapter isatap. {45E92676-7CB114F99-8B8C-2BE1DA2A0FEA} and it is a Microsoft ISATAP Adapter (which I didn't know I had). And the other is a Tunnel adapter Teredo Tunnneling Pseudo-Interface. Both of them are media disconnected.
Broadcom NetLink {Tm} Gigabit Ethernet is my ethernet connection. I usually go wirelessely.

I have installed a clean copy of Windows 7 RC1 Build 7100 on my laptop. Whether I am connected to the network using a lan or wireless connection after waking my computer up from sleep I can't get any connection to work.
The wireless shows a limited connection and the wired shows a cable connected by no network connection.
As soon as I restart or shut down/reboot both or either connection restarts automatically and the Internet works.
This is really inconvenient when using a laptop on the move. Any one got any ideas?

Well I still haven't figured it out yet, but apparent i'm not alone...
"Ghost network" serious network adapter bug
How do you rename the default "Network" connection name in Windows 7?? In vista, you could click customize in network and sharing center to rename the network and change the icon, etc. Windows 7 has no such option.... Also, Every time I restart my computer, I automatically get connected to an "unidentified network" public network type, and it says "mixed network". I can't connect to the internet at all when it does that. I have to disable my adapter and re-enable it to correct the problem. Any thoughts ?? It's quite frustrating because it happens on every boot.

I am showing not connected (red x) to the Internet even though I am connected. This just started happening a few days ago, up until then I would show the normal connected icon. I read somewhere about deleting data from my Reg Edit, but that was too complicated for me to do. Does anyone have any other solutions to this problem?

I renamed the wireless network (ESSID) of my router from one of my Windows XP PC's, and then found that my Windows 7 PC could no longer see any networks at all (there are several from neighbours in addition to mine).
Nothing seemed to help - Rebooting, uninstalling drivers for the wireless card, etc. Eventually I got it to work by giving the network card a fixed IP address, and the it could see all the networks again. I could then change it back to DHCP and it was still okay.

I have updated several computers to Windows 7. On this particular computer (Dell Dimension 8400 desktop with Ethernet connection), each time there is a reboot or shutdown, when I log back in, the computer is disconnected from the network. I see that the router gives the computer an IP address, but Internet Explorer does not open Websites, Outlook does not receive email, etc. When I navigate to the 'Network and Sharing Center', I notice that there are 2 'Network Locations' - 1 'home' and 1 'public'. I have attempted to delete the 'public' location, and I have also attempted to merge the 2 'Network Locations' into 1. This seems to work, but I still cannot surf the Internet. Also, after a reboot, the 2 'Network Locations' are back--even after I merged or deleted them.
I have found a workaround for this. After each reboot and/or shutdown, I navigate to the 'Network and Sharing Center', I click on 'Change adaptor settings', I right-click to 'disable' the 'Local Area Connection', and finally I 'right-click' to 'enable' the 'Local Area Connection'. At that point, the 'public' location goes away (which leave only the 'home' connection) and I am able to immediately surf the Internet, receive email through Outlook, etc. This is a major issue because if the computer is rebooted, I can no longer connect to it remotely, until I am in front of the computer again to disable/re-enable the 'Local Area Connection' adaptor

I recently ran a system recovery on my Samsung 305V and set it back to factory defaults. Now my problem is connecting to the internet. I have hardwired it to the router, also reset the modem and router several times. I disabled the firewall and tried running in safe mode with networking, everything has failed. I looked in the Device manager and there are no devices in the network adapter category besides two Bluetooth Devices. Under the Other Devices category it shows Ethernet, Network and SM Bus Controllers with yellow caution signs on them, I don't know what these are but I can't update the drivers on them or anything.

I was on a flight with EasyJet today, and, the cabin manager confirmed that WiFi was available on the aircraft, and, as a matter of fact Windows 7 was indicating that new connections were available, however, I had a blonde moment. I could not browse anywhere to discover the name of the network and try to connect. I think that this is a design flaw, as WinXP allows users to discover new SSIDs, or else the SSID is configured in some way that it cannot be found is it possible?

I have just got a new laptop with Windows 7 (finally!) My question is this:
Is there a way to configure multiple internet connections with either a preferred primary connection or a way that I can manually route applications to a specific internet connection.
For example I am connect to a corporate lan for corporate email, unix access etc, can I plug in my 3g card and then use that connection when i use msn or a specific browser? I want both connections active at the same time, but the banned stuff on the corporate network to use my 3g connection.

I don't have an Android device, but today AndroidAP showed up in the wireless network connection box.It has an option selected to connect automatically and every time I turn it off it turns itself back on again. I'm a bit worried that it's someone accessing my network. Why this is showing up and how to get rid of it? I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium.

I'm looking for a piece of software (or Windows 7 gadget) that can display for me how many people are currently connected to my computer. I use my computer for personal use but I also have a lot of media files that are often accessed by my roommates, via their xboxes. Is there any software that displays the number of current connections held with my computer? This would be helpful for me, as I don't like restarting my computer if people are streaming movies, tv shows, etc from it.

I'm a true novice with networking.
For the first time ever, I've put in a Router, and, amazingly, it sems to work.
Have 2 PC's in the same room.
Both are ethernet hard wired to router, as they are all pretty close together.
Old PC runs XP, and has my Printer connected to it via a USB cable.
New PC runs Windows 7
Question. Assuming both PC's are turned On, would love to be able to print from my new Windows 7 PC to the printer (connected to the XP machine)
Now that there is a router, am assuming that this is possible.
Could someone please tell me how to configure the XP machine settings to enable this ?
Same question as to how to configure the new Windows 7 PC to do this ?
Detail would be appreciated, as I'm really not too sharp with this stuff.

Having troubles setting this up.
Windows 7 computer working fine - printer working fine (it's a canon ip5200). On Windows XP machine (SP3), I am trying to access the printer. I've tried this a couple of ways and it fails every time.
1) Drill down to printer via the Add Printer searchj for a network printer action. This eventually will ask me to point to an INF file that I don't have (unpacking Canon's printer driver installer to get to the 'ip5200.inf' file will eventually get me a 'Invalid printer file' error even though I can see that the inf file looks like an inf file.
2) Try to add it as a local printer, pointing to the network path (etworkprinter). That installs OK, but it doesn't work.
3) Try to install a network printer giving it a network path. See #1.
What in the heck am I doing wrong? I cannot get Windows7 to add the Windows XP drivers to it's list so I can install it via the network.

I have 2 Laptops running under XP and 2 Laptops running under Win 7, I run the XP under workgroup with Mshome name and these 2 laptops can access files from each other, similar under Homegroup, the Win 7 laptops can see each other.
The XP laptops CANNOT see the laptops under win 7, and vice versa. I read the How-to Geek article a few times , I tried to change the name MShome under XP to Workgroup, even then the win 7 and xp cannot see each other. Even worse the XP laptops cannot access each other.
Any suggestions.

I have 5 computers networked. 3 are Win 7 and 2 are XP Pro SP3.
The printer is connected to an XP machine and can be seen by all computers.
They are all in the same workgroup.
The 2 XP computers can share the printer normally and as long as the machine with the printer is on I can print without problems.
The 3 Windows 7 machines cannot.
I have tried all tricks I found here. I added the printer to Windows 7 as a local printer and added a local port that points to the XP machine (//XPComputer/Printer). That didn't work either and it seems to be the way people get it to work between XP and Windows 7.
I tried adding a network printer and although it sees the printer in the printer list, it hangs adding the printer or after adding the printer I get error 0x0000000d or 0x00000716. I looked these up but couldn't find anything that helped me solve the problem.
There seems to be some sort of authentication issue between the XP machine and the Windows 7 ones.
One tidbit of information, the XP machines are both using NetBEUI. Not sure if that is causing the issue or not. Haven't tried to disable it.
Has anybody fixed anything similar??

I am running Win7x64 and a HP7350 Photosmart printer. To get the printer to work the Windows 7 driver is used for a Deskjet 5550. Works fine. I would like to use the printer on my Linksys network as it did when my desktop was an XP. The driver is only available through the Windows 7 OS, not as a download for Windows 7. the download for XP doesn't work. The driver is incompatible. Is there a way around this?
