View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I right click computer and select manage I get an error "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the default programs control panel."
I am not sure how it got unassociated with it but like to find a fix for it. I can got the system32 directory and run it from there but would like it to work from My Computer.
if i want to go to disk management, i used to right click my computer > manage, but nothing happens, i have to search for manage to get into it. is this a known bug or is it just me?

I have had win 7 installed for a little while now and i know it was working fine up until yesterday.
I have seen others with the same or similar problem with running the manager from the computer context menus but the only answer iv seen is to do a repare install. There must be something better as how do i know it wont just happen again ? would any1 know what might have caused this? & if im really lucky how to fix it.

View 3 Replies View RelatedNormally I used to right click on Computer and Choose Manage and do what I needed to do. Now, in Windows 7 Prof x64, I get a message to "Register Context Menu Platinum" and it counts down from what ever number and then I go to the web site for this program..(http://www.contextmenu.net/register_...text_menu.html)
Any one else have this issue? of know of a fix? I can get around it if I go to:
control panel/administrative tools/computer Management.
I know there is a setting to choose or not to choose specific countries, but I don't know how.(Yes, Europe is not as free as you think and you need to change your identity to view what third world countries can view!)

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am using the Homegroup feature of Windows 7 right now. I have four computers, configured with one account each, that are members of this HomegroupPC1, PC2, PC3, PC4PC1 configured the Homegroup and has the only shared library that is visible on the Homegroup. PC2, PC3, and PC4 all save documents to the shared Homegroup library on PC1.PC1 is basically acting as a file server.I want to set it up so that only certain accounts on each of the other three (PC2, PC3, PC4) computers can see certain folders in the shared Homegroup library. For instance, I have three folders in the shared Homegroup library located on PC1.Folder2, Folder3, Folder4How do I individually share those folders with only certain computers?
I have tried sharing with only "specific people" but it tells "windows was unable to find (name)". I have tried typing in the name of the computer to share with as well as account names.I have run the Homegroup troubleshooter on all computers and I still cannot share specific folders with specific computers. What would be the best way to share how I desire? Is there a better way than with the Homegroup or am I just doing something wrong?
The manage add-ons folder is empty. There are a variety of ways to get to that folder and I have tried them all. There is nothing in it. No toolbars, no search providers, and no Accelerators. It doesn't even contain the InPrivate filtering link. What's more the navigation Pane is also empty.
It's odd because the most common add-ons that shoud be accessable there seem to work OK. Adobe Flash, Java ..etc. Everything is updated. PC: Windows 7 x64, IE8,

View 1 Replies View RelatedAnybody know how to deny users access to the Manage Wireless Networks link from the Network and Sharing center?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have searched the net for this problem, but could not find an answer. Here is the description of the issue:When I go to the "Network and Sharing Center", the "Manage Wireless Networks" link does not show up.(normally, it should show up under "Control Panel Home" at the left pane). When I type "Manage Wireless Networks" in the "Search Control Panel", I am able to find it.But, when I click on it, it says "Wireless is not currently enabled."When I click on "Add", it says "Windows cannot detect any wireless networks interfaces".But, the wireless adapter is working fine.As a matter of fact, I am currently connected to the internet via wireless connection. So, this could not be the adapter issue or the modem issue. The reason I am asking for help is that, I want the capability of selecting which wifi connection to use.
Right now, I cannot choose which wifi connection to use and this presents problems when windows pick a non-working wifi (just happened to me this afternoon). When I was running under Mac OS, I was able to pick a working wifi. The question is:How do I get Windows 7 to display the available wifi connections so that I can pick one from the list?I am using Windows 7 Professional 64 bit on a Mac Air (via Parallel Destops).
I have windows 7 firefox. I cannot manage my booksmarks. They say to go up to bookmarks and pick "manage bookmarks". I don't have that option. I try making a folder and moving links into them and they won't work.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy computer was a display model from a store. It had apparently been set up with a super administrator account. I had set up other administrator accounts and deactivated this account. I think I was trying to rename it because I had allowed remote access to some people I didn't trust and there was logon stuff left on my computer. But after that, my administrator accounts won't let me manage other useres. When I click on the screen, the selection box is blank. One the screens for my account, the image box is blank. I also lost access to all the files owned by the account that was deactivated, but I was able to give myself permission to view them. When I go to the command prompt and type users, the old account name is there. But when I try to activate it by issuing active/yes, I get a "can't find the file message."When I also turned on the administrator account, and it has the same issues as my current account.I think I should be able to manage other accounts,, so there must be some permission list somewhere that needs to be changed, but where and how? My next attempt will be to create a new account and try to copy the stuff my the deactivated one to that in the hope that it will give me a new account with the same super user privilege turned on. But that is a security risk that I would like to avoid if I can.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI built a new computer.I wanted it to be more reliable. So, I got two identical hard drives. I installed Win 7 Pro as one big C: partition. Then I converted to dynamic disks and mirrored the first disk onto the second disk. Everything works! I even gave it a test. I powered off, and disconnected the SATA cable on the first hard disk. Windows booted right up, off the second HD. Great! It seems the mirroring works and can tolerate a missing disk.(I had to rebuild the mirror after doing this test.)I have some questions about how this will work over the long term. I noticed that when the first hard drive was missing from the mirror Windows never gave an error message. How would I detect a failing or failed hard drive? This is important, I think. How does Windows deal with a bad read on one hard drive in a two drive mirror? Say if one disk reads correctly, but the second disk reads a bad sector, how does Windows know what is the correct data?I found that Windows gives a text mode menu when I first boot up the computer. It wants me to select which Windows I will boot: the first hard drive or the second "Plex". Is there a way to set a default, so it will always boot the first instance of Windows without user intervention? Or would this defeat the mirroring function in the case of a bad hard drive?
