The computes is running slow, i have scanned with spybot, kaspersky, ARO 2011 registry cleaner. I don't know how to test memory? don't know what to do from here?? I have defragged hard drive.
I am running Windows 7. Everything was running fantastic and life was free of tensions. But now my laptop has started behaving like a tortoise. Browsers get unresponsive, media players get unresponsive, CCleaner is so slow, that it took 2 hours to assess the files to clean. It makes weird noises inside as if it's making poop. But hell I don't know what it is. I turned it upside down and removed all the screws except one, so I don't if too much dust is making this happen. Whatever it might be[CODE]

I am not much of a techy, but know my way around computers.Since the introduction is out of the way, I need HELP!! My son has a Gateway laptop which I restored to factory specs because it was running slow. Thinking this would solve the problem but it hasn't. The laptop is taking hours to load up Windows and any attempt to run any applications, it would take so much time to load and it would freeze.
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy son's laptop is really slow loading Windows. If I go into Safe Mode, it comes up really quickly and the internet works - all normal. But in the regular Windows, it takes forever and the internet does not connect (it might if I left it long enough but I haven't had the patience). I did an AntiMalware scan which showed nothing and am currently running an Antivirus - both in Safe Mode. I was going to do a System Restore but only one is showing on the system and I wasn't sure where to go with it.

Boot time is fast for the laptop - takes about 15 - 20 seconds for the accounts screen to be displayed. But logging into an account is slow, whether an admin account or a user account. Takes about 2-5 minutes before everything is up and I can use the mouse, etc. That is, during this 2-5 minute period, Windows displays either the hourglass or the circling icon indicating that Windows is busy. How do I determine what is taking so long during the login process?

View 7 Replies View RelatedIn the last few days my computer has been functioning much more slowly. When I reboot it works pretty well, but then after a while, after I start opening applications (Word, Google Chrome, etc) it slows down immensely and it's driving me nuts. This a relatively new (bought in Feb) Lenovo Thinkpad Edge. i downloaded HijackThis v2.0.4 and ran it, but I can't find the log. And I get a pop-up error message: For some reason your system denied write access to the Hosts file. If any hijacked domains are in this file, HijackThis may NOT be able to fix this."

It was very slow either way, so I just restored it to factory settings. It worked perfectly, then the next day it happened again.I restored it again to factory settings, now today it's doing the same thing.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy laptop seems to be really slow. I'm quite sure that my laptop has always been slow, so it's not like it suddenly just got slow. My laptop used to be Vista but was then I updated to Windows 7. To find more details about my laptop click the computer icon next to my username. I would like some suggestions on how I can make it faster as it's starting to annoy me.
P.S I timed my laptop to see how long it would take to turn on then open my browser, it took 5 mins, it may sound short but its not short when you have to wait 5 mins every time you turn it on.
I just started using a new Toshiba laptop. Trouble is, opening and closing programs and browsing is slower then I feel it should be. Pages that loaded in 5 seconds on my old machine are taking 10 seconds on this new one, and opening programs causes a good 5 second delay. Also, once a webpage has finally loaded, scrolling jumps rather than move smoothly. Multiple tabs cause quite a bit of hanging as well.
The machine doesn't seem to be under stress, no fans kicking in or anything like that. But it's just not as quick as it should be. I've disabled a lot of things on startup that weren't required, and even turned off transparency in case it was hogging resources. I run AVG antivirus and Comodo Firewall.

i have already tried many things, such as running anti-virus, malware, and anti-spyware programs which had all come up with no threats. i've run chkdsk, sfc /scannow (which did in fact find corrupt files, but they were unable to be repaired. if anyone can tell me how to repair those files that cannot be repaired, i would appreciate it), and i've also done memory diagnostics, all of which are not identifying with the problem i'm having.
My laptop has been having extremely slow boot up mainly at the "Starting Windows" screen.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a fairly new laptop that suddenly, for two weeks ago went VERY slow. The start up time has increased from about 1 minute, to about 5-6 minutes. And it is generally slower, and freezing occasionally (The ones that freeze the most are programs like flash player (while browsing) and "explorer".) Although it gets faster after a while, it hasn't been as fast as when I got it. And not only that, for about 4 days ago when I was about to go to bed, I turned the "sleep mode" on. (It takes about an hour or so for it to run faster, and not freeze as much.) Anyways, it usually takes some time for the sleep mode to turn on, because of the laptop being as slow as it is. So I had fallen to sleep before the bsod had occurred
View 3 Replies View RelatedI made a thread about this about a month ago, but I did everything I was told to do and nothing changed. This laptop is way too slow. The audio is just a big mess from the login screen and onward(really laggy and static-y). I ran some malware stuff and registry repair as suggested, in safe mode and normal mode, but nothing was fixed. After a few hours, I gave up and dual-booted Ubuntu 10.04 and it worked perfectly. Speed was excellent, audio was too. The only problem is I just use PCs for gaming and chatting, and I can't do much gaming with Ubuntu. So, any idea what could be the problem here? I even tried windirstats too see if any huge files that weren't supposed to be there were causing this, because I once had a problem on my own computer where I had this huge file that slowed down everything and wouldn't let me delete it until I did so in safe mode and then everything worked perfectly again.also, at the boot up menu, there are two loaders. one for vista, one for windows 7. windows 7 just starts up 7, while the vista loader goes to some menu thing that looks like it was booted from a disc.1.it has the options to reset to factory settings and format the C: drive 2.has the option to reset, but keep data
View 5 Replies View RelatedI"ve got a several month old Toshiba X505 870 with I5-720CPU, 4GB of memory and TWO Hitachi 7200 rpm 500GB SATA II hard drives. The system is used primarily for initial examination of digital images, with each image being around 20MB (so we're not talking big files). Accessing images to display previews is perceptibly slow. Yes, the system is tuned to the best of my ability, although I'm certainly open to other tuning things I've missed or just don't know. Both disks have been, and are REGULARLY defragmented - both show 0% fragmentation. I've thrown away the original O/S with all the trialware, stupidity, and goop, and installed Windows 7 Home Premius, 64-bit. All the drivers I'm aware of are current, including the Intel storage drivers. Other than the periodic Side-By-Side errors that show up every couple days, I'm NOT getting application or system errors. Both disks are set to the setting for best performance (I can't recall the wording but something like write-delay or whatever)...
In Bridge or Lightroom I"m not getting CPU bound, but this thing beats on the disk(s) quite a bit, and takes MUCH longer than the desktop system to display images. Admittedly, "MUCH LONGER" is probably between .5 and 2 seconds, but it's still a LOT longer than my desktop takes to display the same previews. The desktop is a slightly faster CPU (I7 920), but it also has standard 7200 rpm drives for images, and it's SIGNIFICANTLY faster at retrieving and displaying images in Bridge or Lightroom...Is there any PRACTICAL (no, putting in 2, 500GB SSD drives is not practical) way to speed up disk access on this laptop?
I have 2 desktop computers and one laptop on a network, all three are also part of a Homegroup. When I try to copy files from the main Admin PC to the laptop it slows down to less than 15KB/s. I thought perhaps it was the wifi reception but even when connected with Ethernet it's still terribly slow to the point that a 300MB folder takes 2 hours (estimated time). I end up cancelling the transfer sand sometimes windows explorer ends up crashing. However when I copy files from the second desktop to laptop it is normal speed. No lag, no glitch. All the files I tried to copy where share, available to Everyone. Everything else works fine, streaming video and music from the main admin PC is flawless, I just can't seem too transfer files from the main Admin PC to the laptop.
