I am using Ubuntu now because I can't use Windows 7 at all. I don't know what has happened. But yestrday I installed ESET 5 (I was using the 4th Version). I know don't if it has something to do with the new version, but when Windows 7 starts it hangs and stops..I can't do anything at all, if I click refresh all the icons on desktop disapear.
View 1 RepliesI made a thread about this about a month ago, but I did everything I was told to do and nothing changed. This laptop is way too slow. The audio is just a big mess from the login screen and onward(really laggy and static-y). I ran some malware stuff and registry repair as suggested, in safe mode and normal mode, but nothing was fixed.After a few hours, I gave up and dual-booted Ubuntu 10.04 and it worked perfectly. Speed was excellent, audio was too. The only problem is I just use PCs for gaming and chatting, and I can't do much gaming with Ubuntu.So, any idea what could be the problem here? I even tried windirstats too see if any huge files that weren't supposed to be there were causing this, because I once had a problem on my own computer where I had this huge file that slowed down everything and wouldn't let me delete it until I did so in safe mode and then everything worked perfectly again.also, at the boot up menu, there are two loaders. one for vista, one for windows 7. windows 7 just starts up 7, while the vista loader goes to some menu thing that looks like it was booted from a disc.1.it has the options to reset to factory settings and format the C: drive 2.has the option to reset, but keep data

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy laptop used to run XP, something got corrupted and I got the blue screen of death. I took it to my brother (who is a network administrator) to fix it. He couldn't figure out how to fix or restore whatever system file was corrupted in XP, so he backed up my documents & program files, and then installed Windows 7. He then dumped all of those backed up files into a folder on my C drive called OLD FILES. It has been super slow and occastionally freezes since that time.
The C drive is almost full. I am certain that I have multiple copies of the same files and programs, and have the files for old software that I do not need or use. I cannot uninstall many of them because they were not installed, they were copied. I have tried many utilities in an attempt to find the duplicate files, or to clean up old data, and to speed up the system, but I only see minor improvements
Also, I have very little free space on the hard drive. however I am so afraid of deleting the wrong file or program and being back where I started when it crashed. I need advice on what I should do to fix this situation. Should I leave the OS as is, or change back to XP? And how can I determine which program filess are actually being used and which are duplicates?
I have thought about just buying a new laptop but that is not really an option at this time. So what do I need to do to make this laptop A) run faster and B) clean out all those duplicates and extra files I do not need.

I'm having trouble with my Laptop Toshiba Satellite C855-S5206 it has Windows 7.

HARD DRIVE*
500GB HDD (5400rpm, Serial ATA)
It takes like 5 to ten minutes to start and I've already tried to clean it with CCleaner and with the msconfig, and it did nothing. and it's just in the start and when it goes to sleep, but besides of that, the computer is running normal. Also I've the antivirus and I don't have any malware or virus

I've updated all drivers to latest version. I'm using CCleaner , daily clean files and registry , defragment drives, disabled everything from bootup using ccleaner (in msconfig all options are untick) .
Still laptop takes lot of time before the "Welcome" screen appears and when the "welcome" screen (in between the bg changes to black ). I tried creating boot trace but then I got a BSOD, I used system restore to fix it .

The computes is running slow, i have scanned with spybot, kaspersky, ARO 2011 registry cleaner. I don't know how to test memory? don't know what to do from here?? I have defragged hard drive.

My son has a Gateway laptop which I restored to factory specs because it was running slow. Thinking this would solve the problem but it hasn't. But in the regular Windows, it takes forever and the internet does not connect (it might if I left it long enough but I haven't had the patience). Boot time is fast for the laptop - takes about 15 - 20 seconds for the accounts screen to be displayed. But logging into an account is slow, whether an admin account or a user account. Takes about 2-5 minutes before everything is up and I can use the mouse, etc. That is, during this 2-5 minute period, Windows displays either the hourglass or the circling icon indicating that Windows is busy. P.S I timed my laptop to see how long it would take to turn on then open my browser, it took 5 mins, it may sound short but its not short when you have to wait 5 mins every time you turn it on.
I just started using a new Toshiba laptop. Trouble is, opening and closing programs and browsing is slower then I feel it should be. Pages that loaded in 5 seconds on my old machine are taking 10 seconds on this new one, and opening programs causes a good 5 second delay. Also, once a webpage has finally loaded, scrolling jumps rather than move smoothly. Multiple tabs cause quite a bit of hanging as well.
The machine doesn't seem to be under stress, no fans kicking in or anything like that. But it's just not as quick as it should be. I've disabled a lot of things on startup that weren't required, and even turned off transparency in case it was hogging resources. I run AVG antivirus and Comodo Firewall.
