What is up with my laptop.... When I turn it on,it shows a black screen in the log-in page.. And even, the start up repair or the system restore dont help me get out of it... Can I b able to fix it widout formatting ?

I have new Dell 2250 laptop and I'm trying to figure out a way to turn off the screen after a few minutes while I have the Windows Media Player going? I have tried this on my desktops over the years and never had any luck so I usually just turned off the monitor manually.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have recently notice that my laptop has the following issues:- Doesn't follow power option settings (shutting off the monitor, go to sleep on timeout, etc)- Doesn't turn on the screen saver. Previewing the screensaver turns it off in about a second (even if my hands are off the mouse/keyboard).- Windows 7 Projector Connection screen (WinKey+P) goes away after a second or so after bringing it up- Some windows open in background (for example, Picasa image viewer opens windowed in the background instead of fullscreen in front as it used to) From what I understand based on some light Googling and vague leads, there is some sort of interrupt happening that makes the OS think it is being actively used. Unfortunately I am not sure how to pinpoint and solve the issue from here on, so therefore I turn to this forum for help. Some notes about stuff I tried and know about this issue:- This must have happened in the past week or two. I do not recall installing any new software and the only updates that passed my memory were Windows Updates.- Checking Task Manager doesn't reveal any suspicious processes to me.- Some sources suggested this could be a faulty Logitech driver. I own a Logitech mouse and keyboard combo.
Something to consider, I guess? Specs:- Windows 7 32b SP 1, up to date- AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-58- 2GB RAM- 250GB HDD- ATI Radeon Xpress 1150- Connected devices: LAN, Logitech Alto Connect Notebook Stand, Logitech S520 Keyboard + mouse that goes with that kit, USB external drive, VGA monitor, line-in running into the microphone port to play sound out of the laptop speakers
I have recently installed Windows 7 RC. Since installing it, I have noticed that when I close my laptop lid, the screen stays on. How do I get the screen to turn off without going into sleep or hibernate mode? I've tried messing around with the power options but nothing seems to work.

I googled "black screen laptop" and I found out about the black screen of death, but it doesn't appear to be this as it completely freezes the computer. I have no idea what this could possible be so I'm hoping someone on here has an idea. The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite t135d-s1324 if it makes any difference.

Everytime i turn on the laptop, i see windows starting up, then i am prompted to enter my administrator password. after entering my password, the screen goes black and all i see is the white cursor. I tried removing the battery, then unpluging the wall power and holding the power button for 2 minutes and replacing the plug, turning on the computer and replacing the battery, but this is not working.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy laptop (Asus A52F) starting acting up about a week ago. It seems to be seizing and then black-screening if I have it do anything more than one small task. For example it often freezes up during scans, when I plug in a hard drive or if I try to download absolutely anything and then I have to force shut down by holding the power button.I've tried running a few different virus/malware scans (Super Anti Spyware, Ad-aware and Malware Bytes) and they found a couple little things but the compuet has still been acting up.
I've tried keeping an eye on the task manager while trying anything that usually freezes the computer and I'm seeing any jumps in the CPU. I've attempted to do a system restore as well but there is no restore point to use.

I've selected the CD/DVD to be first in the BIOS. I'm having to format my HD, because the laptop would load to a black screen with a cursor.
I left my laptop on and had to leave so I simply shut the lid down. About 2 hours later, I lifted the lid and got only a black screen. I moved the mouse around to get it to come on but it would not. After about 5 tries on holding down the button in which to start up my laptop or turn off in this case, it finally turned off then I was able to turn it on and all was fine. I held it down for about 15 seconds. So, question is why wouldn't my laptop become active again when I opened the lid, etc?

As of a few days ago it has been ridiculously slow and is sometimes unresponsive to commands or keyboard. It used to go straight to a black screen with only the cursor after start up but now sometimes starts up, although very slow. Now my desktop started doing it too. I don't know what's going on with them. I had not had any virus protection for a while and recently installed webroot complete 2012 on both of them and scanned, finding nothing. My desktop sometimes loads into safe mode when I tell it to, however it still is extremely slow, SAme with he laptop. And if I try to start up the desktop on normal is stays on black screen. I have noticed that sometimes I will get the "Microsoft windows isn't responding" pop up. My control alt delete doesn't work on either of them either, it pos up suing something like " the control alt delete function could not be started blah blah blah".

When I switch my laptop on it comes up with a black screen with just the cursor in the top left, this happens before I get to any login screens etc, It's like its wanting to boot a CD but there;s no CD/DVD in the rom! Also, I changed the dump settings earlier from the default kernal dump to the 256kb settings. After doing that rather than the black screen crash the computer went haywire with a bunch of lines across the screen. When I turn my laptop on it starts to run like normal: GPU fan starts, Disk drive kicks in, and the LED for the on button is working but nothing on the screen. I've tried too do alt + f10 for a restore, nothing happened. I've also tried to plug it into a monitor and my tv. Before this occurred it had been turned off during boot (don't ask why, I cannot answer that) and I preceded to take it apart(to fix the overheating issue due to acer not putting fan holes on the bottom of the laptop and I didn't realise something was wrong with it until I reassembled it and tried to turn it on. So I'm not sure whether is corrupt BIOS, a hardware problem, or corrupt MBR (my own personal diagnosis, don't know whether it's right or not). Also I have tried turning the laptop off taking the battery out letting the motherboard discharge then pressing the power button for a minute, leaving it for a minute, putting the charger in then turning it on.

I wanted to just do a complete Restore to get things running normally again. Problem is I have a huge amount of pics on there that are not backed up. Been trying to come up with a quick & easy way to do it.Did a Google search the other day & read that I could use a Bridged USB-USB cable & transfer the pics to our PC. Went to Best Buy to get it & they told me that the Belkin Easy Transfer Cable would do it. Well, I attempted to run the thing last night (I don't think it was even doing what I wanted) and now the laptop will not boot at all.There was an error message (that I didn't write down) on it when I got up this morning & now all I get is a black screen with the arrow cursor on it.

Then the screen turns black. It doesn't shut off because I could see the back light, it just turns completely black. What's causing this problem and how do I fix it? Basically when I plug something into any of the USB's on my laptop my screen will go black, but if I run my finger across the trackpad it will light back up again for a second and then go black again, this continues no matter how many times i run my finger on the trackpad. If I take the USB out it still doesnt fix, it seems the only way to fix it is to unplug the power source.
