Jan 24, 2012Basically my laptop has been having very high temperatures for a long time (usually ~60C for CPU and often 100-110 for GPU...insanely high, in other words) For example, see how hot the machine gets just by resuming from a sleep (this is all within a minute or so):I have been seeing the following error in event viewer each time I start Windows (4 entries) for some time:So today I bit the bullet and had the back cover off the laptop and noticed what a bad state the thermal compound was in, for both the CPU and the chipset chip, so wiped it off using TIM Cleaner, and then applied new thermal compound and put the laptop back together. I was actually shocked because for the first time since I can remember, I could feel cold air blowing from the vents of my laptop! I logged into Windows and noticed that my temperatures had fallen and were staying at around the below:Not as low as I'd like but a massive improvement. Trouble is, I am still getting the WHEA-Logger event errors in Windows Event Viewer ('processor core') and wondered if this was not in regards to overheating after all?The plus side is my laptop is now almost totally silent - the way it must have been when I bought it new 3 years ago! But I was wondering how to investigate these WHEA-Logger errors?PS - I think I accidentally got some TIM Cleaner spilt on the carpet. Might be nothing to worry about, but I did notice the "Harmful" hazard symbol on the bottle?

System Keeps Restarting Event Log: Critical Error - Event ID 41

Computer rarely restarts during the time I am using it. It restarts if I leave stuff downloading overnight or if I leave on during the day. I then have to re-install any software I installed the previous time because it says it was shutdown improperly ( CRASHED).
I then check the Event logger and see it has multiple crash reports.

I show 20 of these crashes so far and I just built the system yesterday. I need help in determining what could be causing this. The motherboard? Old Videocard? Windows 7? 64 Bit platform? Any thoughts?

No Video Display After Logon On Laptop LCD
Mar 31, 2011This is on a fairly new HP G72 running Win7/64. A soft drink was spilled on the keyboard, system ran fine after cleaning it up, then performed a scan and found malware. Removed the malware, rebooted and system boots to user logon no problem. After you log in, the screen flashes white for several seconds, then goes black/white quickly and then all black: no cursor, no nothing. A few seconds later you hear the Windows startup song.Connect an external monitor and you see the desktop perfectly. System shows no problem with driver, all settings look good, system can see both an LCD screen and the external as disply devices. Use the Fn-F4 key to cycle througn video outputs and it goes blank-blank-external. Once you get past the logon screen in Normal mode the LCD goes blank but the external VGA works a treat!Boot into BIOS, let it run 15 minutes and never lose the display. Boot into the Recovery Console and let it set and poke around for 15 minutes and it never lose the display. Boot to Safe mode and poke around for 15 minutes and never lose the display. Boot to Normal mode and after you logon the screen goes black but with the external VGA working perfectly.
Uninstall the video drive (Intel HD), delete the driver on the system and boot into Normal mode: the LCD works perfectly, no problems other than 800x600 resolution and 256 colors. Install the latest & greatest video driver for the system from HP, reboot to Normal mode and the screen goes blank after logon but the VGA still works great. In frustration I do a destructive restore, taking the system back to new-out-of-the-box condition and still get the same problem.Only thing I haven't done yet is a HDD reformat and OS reinstall from recovery discs. Trying to avoid that so I don't lose the recovery partition. Don't know if this is a rootkit/bootkit problem but my next step is to try rebuilding the MBR and BCD. If that doesn't work all I can think of is reformat/reload.Doesn't all this look like a software problem? I want to think it's hardware (remember the soft drink spill) but if the LCD video works in BIOS, and works in Recovery Console, and works in Safe mode but *only* fails in Normal mode with both the OEM and latest drivers, doesn't that really point to the OS?
WiFi Turns Off And Laptop Freezes With Event IDs 7034 And 4001
Jan 3, 2013i have a hp pavilion dv6 6123cl with windows 7 home premium. since last week, it crashes randomly and the led that indicates whether wifi is on which is on f12 button turns red (wifi off). it has happened surfing on the web (in mozilla firefox) watching Internet videos or playing games with wifi on. after the laptop freezes, i turned it off with the power button, turn it on and the wifi does not reconnect.
only if i turn it off and leave the laptop for say, half an hour and then turn it on, then wifi is able to connect. i have been looking at event viewer near the time of the freezes and there's an error that indicates that a service called trueservices stops with event id 7034. also there is a warning that 'wlan autoconfig service has successfully stopped' with event id 4001. i am quite newbie with windows 7.

Oct 6, 2011Just installed Windows 7 fresh on a new intel 320m 160gb. After i type in my password at the login screen windows hangs for about 15 - 20 seconds on welcome with the moving circle. Total boot time is about 40 - 50 seconds. I've checked the event log and an event 100 and event 200 show up at every boot and shut down but it does not tell me what process is causing this. I've tried a clean re install of windows 7 with a non sp1 and an sp1 disk and get the same results. I used windows boot or starup repair and it said something about an audio device? So i unplugged my Asus xonar but im still getting the same hang time on welcome. So far nothing is plugged in the computer except for mouse keyboard monitor and ethernet cable. A Windows 7 HP 32bit.We can login locally i think to a local user KB_SUF/User (where KB_SUF is the name of the computer)however whenever the UAC comes up when installing anything, we cannot proceed because it keeps saying "There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request" The thing is they sent us the computer without removing it from the domain Now I cant install the programs i need to work and it doesnt seem like theres a local admin on this computer. When I first got the laptop the USB ports didn't recognise devices when they were plugged in, and the laptop would just hang when shutting down (on the Windows Shutting Down screen), so I decided to reinstall the OS as there was a lot of unnecessary applications installed.
I've been using the laptop since the rebuild and all has been good, until the past week or so when the same two problems have materialised again - when I attach a PSP, or a printer via USB, they are not recognised. And when I shut the laptop down, it hangs on the Shutting Down screen.
What checks can I run to see what the cause of this might be? I've not really installed a load of software on here, and I can't think of anything specific that I may have done that would cause this...
Laptop Occasionally Doesn't Boot Up Correctly?
Jul 10, 2011Occasionally my Laptop (Windows 7, 3gb RAM, Compaq Presario CCQ61) doesn't boot up correctly. As in normally the problem is ''Windows cannot find an OS'' thats not the exact wording but somewhere along the lines, its a blue screen and there is also some other writing underneath. I tap the off button to turn off and then i turn on again, sometimes it boots up fine and works good but sometime like it says run system repair (reccomended) so you do and it go's through steps and tells you to do a system restore which I do then it does work...but then maybe a week later you will open the lid and it won't respond (the mouse won't move and you have to hold the power button the turn it off., its starting to get annoying at this stage, considering restoring to factory settings.

After using for a long period of time like 6-7hours, I would usually put my laptop into hibernate mode.When I click hibernate, the screen turns black but even after 20mins the power button including wifi and other lights doesnt go off, which I have to force shutdown by holding the power button. Even sleeping the laptop after 6-7hours does the same issue, unable to go to sleep(indicated by the blinking power button)
The wierd thing is that if I use the laptop for about 2 hours or less, I am able to fully hibernate or sleep, which I tested a few times.

Aug 22, 2012I'm writing about my friend's computer so I don't have all the info at my fingertips. It's about two years old. I know she has Windows 7 on it. She has been having trouble for a long time with the darned thing not wanting to shut down. I'm going to quote her description to me in an email and hope that someone has some ideas. I'm trying to help her out because she is not comfortable with going into forums and doing this. "It turns off some times right away. But then a few times it sits and waits to shut off. If I close the lid it only shuts down the screen but the computer is still running. Then later it turns back on as I hear the start up tone. Then I can click off again and it shuts down. If I don't turn it off then it shuts down after it use all the power."
