I tried everything I could to fix it, nothing worked. When I first unpackaged the computer, I attempted to use an old Western Digital hard drive from my previous Q9550/EVGA 780i system. I was unaware that hard drives from another chip set install probably wont boot into windows. So I foolishly I attempted to boot into windows right after I assembled the new i5 computer with a old hard drive from a Q9550 system. Not sure if this might be part of the problem, but I figured I would mention it.The hard drive showed up in BIOS but did not show up "Where do you want to install windows".
Neither did my other hard drives ( another Western Digital & Seagate). Windows 7 Install On EFI System And GPI Disks
May 16, 2011I've installed Win7 on a 500GB Sata II disk and was running fine. Then something happened, boot manager missing, and I need to re-install Win7 on same disk. Now I get a message, when installing on the SAME DISK: "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks."
This disk just had Win7 installed on it and is still there (but boot manager is still missing) so how can the disk have an MBR partition? I got this same msg. when trying to install Win7 on a clean Samsung 128GB SSD as well. I re-formatted the drive and still same msg. How can I make my disk formatted with GPT partitions instead of MBR partitions? I can find no choices in terms of which kind of formatting and partitions that can be used when formatting disks on Win7 or XP Pro.

Can't Do Clean Install Of Windows 7 Operating System
Aug 6, 2011I just bought a refurbished Dell desktop PC that came with Windows XP Home preloaded. I have bought the disc from Microsoft for Windows 7 OS and want to do a clean install on that PC.
When I put in the Windows 7 disc and restart the PC, the cursor will appear for about a minute flashing in the upper left hand corner of the black screen before the machine finally boots to Windows XP Home edition.
Things I�ve tried:
1.Reboot and hit F2 to check the reboot order which is already set to do �Onboard or USB CD-ROM Drive� as the first choice.
2.Reboot and hit F12 to see if there are any other options that make sense (which don�t to me).
3.Reboot in Safe Mode (and then what do I do?)

Windows 8 Install System Would Become Unresponsive / Freeze
Jan 9, 2013Initial symptoms began when I decided to give Win 8 a try. Immediately after the Windows 8 install my system would become unresponsive/freeze, but never had a BSOD. Mouse was still functional but unable to actually do anything. Forced me to power cycle the PC. I ran memory diagnostics and attempted to use the repair options built into the OS, but no resolution.After trying to fix the Windows 8 freezing I decided to go back to Win-7 HP 64Bit. I performed a clean install keeping only personal files and the windows.old old folder. With the new install I ran all the needed updates in Update manager and updated all the drivers as needed. For the first couple days all was well and then the OS would freeze/hang/become unresponsive... required power cycling to reboot. As of late, the system would boot to log-in screen but would either freeze when I typed a character or moved the mouse. Other times it would hang after entering my password and never load the desktop. There have been times when I couldn't even boot to safe mode[with networking] or [cmd].
So today is throwing me for a loop because I am on the affected computer and all seems to be operating perfect.I am at a loss for understanding, why be broke for 1.5 - 2 weeks and now suddenly work like a charm?I ran SFC and have errors that cannot be fixed automatically. Event viewer has a lot of friendly red icons and a few more mellow yellows. So I am asking for help in resolving the issues that exist with my OS, hoping to learn and avoid installing the Backup image i have from late last year.

Dec 25, 2012my problem lies in the installation of windows 7 ultimate 64 bit on my system. I custom built this computer and after using the installation disk that contains both 32 and 64 bit. On my brother's computer we used this disk and it automatically installed to 64 bit without making us choose. However on my machine, it automatically goes to 32 bit even though all the parts are 64 bit compatible. how can I install 64 bit windows 7 to utilize all 8 gb of memory. I have tried reinstalling i using the disk multiple times, each time giving me the 32 bit system.

When I hooked up my hard drives, Windows stopped booting. It installs, but when it restarts to finish the installation it says "missing operating system." Dec 17, 2011I recently created a new partition with 200GB of space on my Windows 7 64bit (HP Elite) PC system. I installed Windows XP Professional on that new partition (trying to create dual OS). After Windows XP was installed, I was unable to find "Windows 7" as a boot option under "Startup and Recovery"... I could only see Windows XP Professional. I went to Disk Management and right clicked on the partition where my Windows 7 OS was under, and chose "Make partition active"... I got a warning system MAY not be able to boot, but I chose to proceed anyways. I tried restarting and got an error "BOOTMGR is missing / Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart" ... I tried pressing F11 after restarting to get into "System Recovery" but it would go directly to the error message. I was still be able to access everything else during boot except "System Recovery" such as BIOS, etc.
I re-installed Windows XP Professional on the same partition... and was now able to get into the Windows XP Pro OS again. I'm still unable to access "System Recovery" when booting. F11 option is being bypassed and going directly into XP OS. This is my first concern, how do I get "System Recovery" to get working again? It used to work before as I re-installed Windows 7 couple of months ago. I can still see "FACTORY IMAGE" drive in My Computer (could be on a different drive letter than before). And second, how do I boot to my original Windows 7 OS (C-drive seems intact and all Win-7 system files are there)?
Fresh Install Of Windows 7 Always Goes To System Recover Options?
Nov 3, 2011I have a Gateway T-1625 laptop. it has 2 gb of ram, 500 gb hdd, and an amd turion 64x2 processor. It came with win vista and am trying to upgrade to win7. I ran the disk, everything seemed to go fine, all the way up to setting the time and date. After the restart, it goes to "System Recovery Options" and asks for language. Next screen says "select an operating system to repair and click next. Only win vista operating systems are listed and can be repaired". My problem now is only win7 is listed. My options are to load drivers or next. I have read in a few places to load drivers, but i read them after trying to install win 7. I don't know where to look for drivers if that might be the case. If i click next, i get the "choose a recovery tool" and it states the operating system is win7 located on (C Local Disk. I have tried the startup recovery several times to no avail. When i look at the details, there are 10 problem signatures. The ones that look odd to me are the "Signature 1 SystemDisk" and "Signature 6 OsVersionMismatch". Like most idiots, i thought i could handle a simple installation and didn't bother to look for tips before hand, and now it's costing me.

I discovered how to take ownership of these directories, but now the UAC is telling me that I need permission from myself to delete the files which I own!
Is there anyway to get round this without shipping out my data and doing a format, which I don't want to do as I always seem to miss something important..
Windows 7 Ultimate X64 Will Install On System But Not Boot After BIOS
Feb 8, 2013I was running Windows 7 ultimate x64 on my system (specs below), and I usually let my computer go into hibernate as it does that automatically after some time of system inactivity. Usually it will boot back up with no problem but then last week I tried to boot it up, it crashed and said system error.. I can't remember everything it said as it was obviously coded; since then I haven't been able to bring up the same warning screens.
Instead what happened was I reinstalled windows 7 on the same drive, formatted and all, and after installation it would finalize my settings, etc. After which, it would do a final reboot and, after bios goes, the computer hangs on a command prompt type screen with just a flashing underscore. Asking my family members, they proposed it might be a hardware issue so I bought a new hard drive (Seagate Barracuda 1tb.. not sure if that matters) and tried installing windows on that drive; same exact problem.
I also tried different combinations of RAM with my board, including just one stick of RAM, tried taking out the video card, tried taking out the sound card, etc. No dice. So my dad took his drive from his computer, that has an install of VISTA x64, and I plugged it into my computer and it worked perfectly. Conversely, I plugged my drive with the Windows 7 install into his computer and it also worked perfectly. We tried playing around with a few settings in the BIOS, etc. but nothing gives.
