Guide Install Windows 7 From A USB Drive
Step by step tutorial. Took me about 6 minutes. Installs from a flash drive tend to take about 75% of the time it takes with a DVD. On my C2Q Q6600 it meant 20 mins instead of 29. This is for those who are having issues with running from a DVD, or just want to try it out/get it done faster. Note: Back up the files from your USB drive, as it WILL get formatted in this process and all data on it will be lost! 1. Get a USB Drive, it must be at least 4 GB. 2. Plug the drive into your PC. 3. Open a command prompt as administrator. (Right click, Open as Admin, or Ctrl+Shift+Click) 4. Get the drive number by typing: diskpart list disk On my machine the USB disk was number 1. 5. Format the drive by typing: select disk 1 clean create partition primary select partition 1 active format fs=NTFS assign exit 6. Mount the Windows 7 beta iso or insert the disk. 7. Navigate to the boot directory cd E:oot (Where E is the drive letter of the DVD) 8. Using bootsect, we’ll make the USB drive a bootable NTFS drive, ready for a Windows 7 image: bootsect /nt60 F: (Where F is the drive letter of the USB Drive) 9. Close the command prompt 10. Copy the installation files from the mounted Windows 7 iso/disk to the USB drive. 11. Reboot the PC, and enter the BIOS (OR you can move to the boot manager menu, usually by pressing F10 if supported) 12. Set the boot priority to boot the USB drive first. 13. Install Windows 7.

PowerIso: Virtual Drive Program To Install Windows
Well bad for me on one of my Pc's my DVD drive just died on me BUT al hope is not lost!I went and used a virtual drive program called "PowerIso". I was able to download, deploy, and install Windows 7 via virtual drive while still in Vista. Only downside to this was that I couldn't do a clean install (obviously). Just thought people who didn't know would want to know.

Windows 7 Enterprise Clean Install Vs Deployment Workbench Deploy Drive Configuration
When installing Windows 7 Enterprise x64 clean, I get a "System Reserved" 100MB system partition without a drive letter at the beginning of the disk. I also get a "C" drive boot partition. I like this. When deploying through Deployment Workbench (2010 Beta2), the "C" drive is System, Boot, etc. at the beginning of the disk, then there is a 300MB "D" drive named "BDEdrive" and at the end of the disk is 11MB unallocated space. I don't like this so much. How can I get Deployment Workbench to mirror the clean installation configuration?

Upgrade Windows 7 RC To Windows 7 RTM Using BACKUP Drive
For obvious safety reasons, I decided that I would upgrade windows 7 RC to windows 7 (RTM) using my BACKUP drive.  This serves two purposes: 1) I have a "known good" disk to fall back to 2) It proves that my backups can be used. I created the backup using a disk cloning software, gparted. This guarantees that it is a faithful copy of the windows 7 RC installation, and scandisk confirmed that it was good.  The boot sector is the only part that does not benefit from that sort of copy, and I worked around that by doing a repair install onto the backup drive from the install disk. I assume that all subsequent incremental updates to the backup can be done with any file syncing software. After doing that, the backup drive boots, but when I try to log in (so I could start the windows 7 RTM install program*), it just sits there for about 3-5 minutes preparing my desktop (whatever that means) and when it's finally done, it shows a blank screen, and says that my copy of windows is not genuine. This raises a more important issue than anything to do with the RTM instalation - If I can't back up my drive, what am I supposed to do if I have a disk failure at a bad time? If I only backup my files without my applications, for one, there is a huge risk that I would forget something, and for another, reinstalling all my applications is just a stupid waste of time, when I could just get a spare disk for under $100. In short, how can I safely (and hopefully quickly) get a "whole disk" backup that I can actually use? I had enough trouble re-installing dozens of applications and copying AppData directories just to get from XP to Windows 7 in the first place, and I don't want to have to do all that stuff again if I have a hard drive failure. * Don't worry, I already fixed the cversion.ini file to work around the ridiculous win 7 RC restriction.

Copy Old Favorites From Old Drive To Windows 7 Drive
This is very frustrating now...Yes, I know it´s because of my lack of knowledge about Windows 7 and security/permission rules and settings. But still. Hopefully someone is kind enough to help me out a bit here and maybe I´ll understand better (hopefully) I´ve just installed Windows 7 and this is what I want to do: Copy my old Favorites-folder (Win Explorer 8) from the old harddrive to my new folder in Win 7. I had some problems accessing my old folder in My Documents on the old harddrive but i changed permission and ownership and finally I could access it and copy the folder. But. It seems impossible to copy it into c:UsersxxxxxFavorites It just says "You´ll need to provide administrator permission to copy this folder" I´ve disabled the built in admin account and tried every fix I´ve found but I still receive the same message. How can I fix this??? Seems like a simple thing to do but i just cant get it to work.

PC Freezes During Windows 7 Install
Windows 7 has been installed on PC, but caused random freezes, Sometimes the PC froze after a few minutes, other times it lasted up to 3 days constant use before freezing. I have tried everything I could think of, or find by searching the Internet to fix the problem, but always this freeze would reoccur. But now I found out that the PC has frozen during re-installation of windows 7. Twice it has happened whilst windows was unpacking files. Once at 0%, the other at at 26%. Does this mean that the problem is hardware related? If it occurs before windows is even installed?

Install Windows 7 Upgrade
My machine came with XP preinstalled, and no installation disk. I received an upgrade to Vista Home Premium, but it is on a special HP disk that does not boot the system. I want to do a clean install, which will, of course require reformatting the drive. How do I establish authenticity for the subsequent installation of Windows 7 without Vista running on the system?

Windows Mail Did NOT Install
I installed Windows 7 Beta and everything seems to have gone okay. I received no error messages during install or after install. However, Windows Mail does not seem to be installed. I find this odd as everything I have read about Window says that windows Mail is part of the Operating System.

Windows 7 Install And Partitions ?
I recently bought a new computer and installed XP(32-bit) on it for the time being until I purchase a full version(so not an upgrade) of Windows 7(64-bit). I have my hard drive partitioned so that XP is on one and my data is on the other. When I install Windows 7, will it require that I format my entire drive or just my XP partition?

BSOD After Starting Windows. (install)
im trying install windows 7 (7100 x86) on my computer. but... he load files and after Starting Windows in first time get a BSOD. 0x00000124 (0x00000004, 0x813508D4, 0x00000000, 0x0000000) i try: - remove all usb (mouse and webcam) - Change DVI to VGA - burn DVD 4x and 8x - download others versions (7077, 7057 and 7106) but always give BSOD. now i cant use Windows 7 somebody know anythink ?

BSOD After Install Windows Needs To Shutdown
After installing 7 to a new partition, i am able to login and start upwindows 7 but after about 5 secs. get a BSOD that read. "A problem has been detected and windows needs to shutdown" It says I need to shutdown antivirus, disk defragmentation, and backup utilities which I havedone. Technical Information*** STOP: 0x00000024 (0x000c22D20x0000107F, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)Is this a hard drive issue?

Windows 7 Upgrade - Clean Install
The Windows 7 Full Versions are for those users who wish to install the OS on a blank (or newly purchased) formatted HD who has NEVER owned a license for XP or Vista. That is all it is meant for, black and white. The Windows 7 Upgrade Versions are for those users who already own a previous license for XP or Vista OS, and is based upon a trust system that you do, in-fact, OWN a valid license. In the future, Microsoft could eventually come out with a patch to validate your Upgraded version of Windows 7 by asking for the previous OS disk and/or key for validity. So do not toss away your old disks or key information. The recommended way to Upgrade to Windows 7, from XP or Vista, is to launch the DVD from within the current OS and follow the dialog boxes to install Windows 7. So basically, the Upgrade does NOT ask for a previous Windows disk, nor a previous license key, nor does it check online to make sure the key is even valid. If you are running a 32bit OS and upgrading to Windows 7 32bit, you can do the normal Upgrade method which will place your old OS into a folder that you can delete later. However, I would recommend re-booting the computer with the DVD in the drive to lauch the setup. Just make sure you have backed up your personal data elsewhere before doing so, preferably using Windows Easy Transfer at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/features/windows-easy-transfer Also, during the installation, Windows 7 puts a 100mb partition for system management, used by Windows 7 Ultimate, Business and Enterprise. Even if you are not installing those OS's, you will still get the partition... but it doesn't hurt anything, I would just leave it to be safe. It is assumed that it is there for the other OS's to load Windows 7. So, if you remove it, you could have issues down the road. Unable To Install Windows 7 DVD
I have recently purchase windows 7 home premium to replace my vista home premium. (32 bit) I have tried everything to get it to run on my laptop. iv updated the bios, checked the drivers, im a computer tech of sorts and I think iv tried everything. Even down to deleting filters for the dvd player in the registry. I know that my dvd player works as it runs other disks with programmes on. The disk is the full version, I am definatly booting from the dvd drive, i just get a black screen with a flashing cursor for a couple of minutes before it goes back to booting from the hdd. Iv run the test programme to see if win 7 will work on my laptop and it says that it is within the criteria. I have also tried restoring vista to its origional state with the recovery disks , un installing the virus protection and then running the disk. The disk isnt even recognized in the drive. You can hear it trying to spin then it just stops. Iv tried loads of other disks including a bios update disk (which is a bootable disk) this ran fine.
