Suddenly a couple of weeks ago, my songs can no longer be sorted alphabetically by name. The songs are sorted by artist, then by song name. I've tried all the common sense steps on how to sort but nothing works. This occurs on iTunes Windows, iPod, and iPad "Remote" (controlling a mac mini with iTunes). Here's a video just so you can see I'm not doing it wrong:
In the video, I'm following advice to click "View as List" then click "Name" to no avail. I also tried clicking other fields and then "Name", but the result is the same-- sorting by artist name first then song name.
I have a 120 GB Classic iPod. I've had it for a couple years, and I managed it with my old laptop (Vista). I got a new laptop (W7) recently so I copied my iTunes library on to a external HDD and moved it to the new laptop. I tried to use it with my new laptop for the first time several days ago, but it wasn't detected.
When I plug it in or remove it the backlight comes on, but neither my laptop, iPod, or iTunes show any indication that the iPod is actually connected. No sync screen on the iPod, no data popping up in iTunes, no USB device connection manager on my toolbar. What's going on? I tried resetting the iPod, but that didn't work.
Yesterday, I decided to do a little experimenting. I tried my iPod with my new laptop. It didn't work. I tried both USB 2.0 ports but no dice. I poked around in the device manager and didn't see anything that I thought might correspond with an iPod. No "USB mass storage device" or anything like that.I tried my iPod with my old laptop and it did work.I decided to pop in my new laptop a never before opened flash drive that I purchased recently. It installed properly. I checked both USB ports and it was detected in both of them.
Still working on my friend's laptop. I told him to backup all of his files, and specifically directed him to his iTunes Music folder. I then wiped his drive, etc. Now, he says... when the iTouch is plugged in, it should 1) "automatically" install iTunes from the iTouch, 2) the computer will then "remember" his name, settings, and iTouch serial number, 3) so that it can restore the library from all of the music, etc. from the iTouch-- 4) which is NOT the same as the iTunes Music folder, as there is much more on the iTouch that is not in that folder. Again, he tells me this NOW. *Note* The data files (ie iTunes Music folder) have not yet been moved back onto this drive.
1) I had already installed iTunes before I let him try to resync his iTouch. He insisted that me installing it before he plugged the iTouch in is one of the things that is causing this not to "work," so he uninstalled, redownloaded & reinstalled the new version anyway, iTunes 10.5, this morning.
2) He insists that, upon opening up the program the FIRST time, the computer "remembered" his name since it says "[name, name]'s Library" under Preferences. "That's cuz when I installed Windows 7, I put your username as the same that you had. It's just taking it from your username." "So, it remembered?" And he says, "All the settings are the same." "Well, then, you must have just happen to have had them set as the same thing that is default." After nearly 2 weeks, he does not understand what an operating system is or what "erasing everything on the drive so it is completely and utterly blank," means.
3) As for restoring the iTunes library from what is on his iTouch, I'm at a loss there. My first experience with iTunes ever was when a friend put his whole library on my new & empty iTunes, but that was back in 2006.
4) Is it even possible to sync things onto your iTouch without going through iTunes, when it is set up to only work with iTunes, so that the content ends up on the iTouch, but is somehow NOT under iTunes control & thus dumped into the iTunes Music folder? Now I'm just getting confused...
My old computer crashed and I'm now on a new PC with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.
I installed the latest iTunes successfully, but found that my iPhone 4 is now not syncing with it. It can detect the phone, but it's not adding or deleting anything - apps, music or photos. I used to be able to select a Photo Folder to sync from the PC hard drive, but now it no longer works. It, however, works well with my notebook which is running on Win Vista.
There is no error message, the sync and backup apparently goes on only for a few seconds, and then iTunes says it is searching for which apps to install but nothing changes. Even when I've clicked Apply.
I've also tried closing iTunes and I've rebooted the phone but no dice. I've also uninstalled iTunes to reinstall. Doesn't work either. And yes, I installed with the 64-bit installer.
I have puchased an ipod touch because my ipod nano was full. I want to use the songs from the nano on the ipod touch but also add more music to that Ipod Touch. Most of my music is from CD's.How should I add this new Ipod touch which has 32gb storage.I want to keep same music on the Nano but change playlists on it or delete songs and add others in the 4gb storage. Will the old Nano still sync when I make changes?
So my system just updated it's self when i restarted it and i got a new podcast library(it could be from the zune update) and when i try to delete it, it will reappear i've tried everything?
Prior to upgrading to Windows 7, I used the Juice podcast receiver. I can't get it to work in 7 and I also can't seem to get any other podcast receiver to work. Is there one that works (other than itunes - I need something that will sync with Media Player)?
i'm running a windows 7 home premium 64 bit, and for some movies, the video will start in-sync for about 40 minutes, then slowly get farther and farther out of sync, making watching the video un-watchable after another 10 minutes. but it does not do this with all video types. it also does not do this with netflix, Internet, or anything else online.
i'm running a geforce gtx 660m, all drivers are up to date. the files that work are: mp4, files that don't work are: mkv, avi
those are the only files i have tried. it's done this since i got this computer a couple months ago
I'm trying to downgrade from iTunes 10.5 to a version that doesn't crash (see my previous thread). However, whenever I do this, I cannot import my Library file (.itl) because it was created by a newer version of iTunes.
I use iTunes on my Windows 7 computer to sync with my iPhone, and the last time I went to open iTunes it gave me the error message "iTunes cannot run because some of its required files are missing. Please reinstall iTunes."I had heard that if I uninstalled Quicktime (which is bundled with iTunes when that is downloaded), then reinstalled it separately, it would work again, but after trying that it didn't. So I decided to just uninstall iTunes, then reinstall it. However, every time I try to uninstall it in Add/Remove Programs, it just sits there saying it'll be about eight more seconds to go to finish deleting, but it just sits, and sits, and sits...... Nothing. I also tried to just install the newest iTunes on top of the existing one, but every time I try it tells me that it's already installed and to click "Ok." So I can't uninstall it, nor can I install it, nor will iTunes open on its own. I had done a system restore recently, so I don't know if that had anything to do with it.
There are some photos in my iphone and I want to transfer them to my pc for editing. The problem is,none of these photos was taken by iphone so it's not easy to transfer.I have done it once before but this time it doesn't work out.I really don't know which step is wrong!
I want to transfer files from my ipod to my computer but when I look for my ipod in "my computer" it doesn't show as a drive. I can use it with I tunes, it works fine but for my purposes, I need to access the files on the drive in "my computer" I am using windows 7
I have a 6 month old computer with Windows 7 on it. Anyhow, I always use iTunes and backup/load songs from it to my iPhone 4 and 2nd gen iPod.About a week ago is when I last was able to connect my iPod to itunes and load new songs. However now my computer no longer recognizes my iPod. I thought it was iTunes at fault but my computer still recognizes my iPhone no problem (with the same cord) and my computer also recognizes my gps watch with its own separate cord.I've tried restarting my computer, unplugging it, using both USB ports but to no avail. The ipod charges when plugged in to the computer but it just isn't being recognized (there are no removable storage devices showing in my computer either).I opened device manager and it shows 2x Generic USB Hub, 2x Intel 6 Series...Hos Controller, 2x USB Root Hub, 1x USB Mass Storage Device. When I go to properties > details > hardware ids of the USB Mass Storage Device it shows USBVID_0BDA&PID_158 and also USBVID_0BDA&PID_158&REV_5888.
I just got an ipod today and when i try to plug it in to the PC it will disconnect itself after like 5 seconds. I tried on my neices laptop what still has vista and it works fine.
My laptop's(dell inspiron, windows 7) hardrive recently crashed, and I lost everything. And I'm trying to transfer everything from my ipod touch back to my computer. I've read about how you can do it, but whenever i plug my ipod in it comes up as a digital camera. And not in 'devices with removable storage'.
My ipod is stuck at the start-up screen. It's a black screen with the apple logo and a bar under it, the bar is empty. How do i fix it so it loads and gets to the lock screen as usual?
I just bought an HP g6 laptop the other day with Windows Home Premium x64, and I wanted to bring all my music from my Ipod classic to my new computer. It is normally a straightforward process, but whenever I try it with the new computer, Windows 7 crashes. I tried to do a bit of trouble shooting myself, but to no avail. I downloaded the Microsoft Host Controller Driver Update for HP users, but when I went to install it, the error message "Update did not install (259)" came up. I don't know what to do about it, but a lot of people seem to have similar problems that have to do with nvidia chipsets or something.
iPod won't autoplay on windows 7. I've set my iPod to manually choose the music and video files, which automatically checks the "enable disk usage" box. However I am unable to AutoPlay it in windows explorer. When I right-click on my iPod and select AutoPlay nothing seems to happen.
