View 1 Replies View RelatedMy girlfriend came to me saying she was trying to do something on her windows 7 computer and it said she had no space to complete or something. I have never owned a windows computer so I am a little rusty on the subject. Looking at her computer she has 58 GB on her C drive and a little under 400 GB on her D drive. She had ~175 GB free on her D drive and almost none on her C drive. Is there any way to take space from the D drive and add it to the C drive? Also, I think its odd that her C:/users folder is only 25 GB. My assumption is most everything she installs and adds to her computer will go into the users folder. If she has a 500 GB HDD, why would 60%+ of the HDD be in use? is windows 7 just that big?

View 1 Replies View RelatedFor some dumb reason when I was installing Win7 on this new hard disk I allocated only 40gb to my C: partition, and the rest of the disk for another. At the time, I was thinking that 40gb should be well enough for Windows and any programs I install. However, I play a lot of games, and it seems that every game developer thinks it's a brilliant idea to stuff game files/configurations/saves into My Documents, and so my C: drive is constantly near-full. I was wondering if there was a way to allocate more memory to the partition without doing a reformat? I did not set it as dynamic when I created it.

View 14 Replies View RelatedMy current hard drive has been getting wonky on me. About a month ago it came up with bad sectors. Replaced them with backup sectors. Nothing bad has happen since then, and I scan almost every day just in case. I am considering buying a new 1TB just because it will be newer, and faster. This disk is getting a lot of read/write errors and takes a while to do some stuff now.
My question is, does anyone know if it is possible to transfer your windows 7 partitions to a new drive directly without using a 3rd drive as a medium. The hard drive I am using is 750gb, and as I said, I am getting a 1TB. So does anyone know an easy way I can just plug in the new drive, use software to copy over Windows 7 to the new drive and it still work?
I know Windows 7 installed 2 partitions, so that is what is confusing me. Because I can not even see the other partition it uses.
PS: I have all my files backed up on 2 other drives. So don't worry about that.

I'm using a 5400 rpm 300gb hard drive right now, but am wanting to replace that with a new 1.5tb 7200 rpm hard drive, but wanting to use my same copy of Win7. I haven't been able to find a way to do this without the use of an external hard drive.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently discovered that my hard drive is damaged and I need to buy and install a new one. With that said, it would be convenient to move all my files to an external hard drive and transfer them over to the new internal hard drive. If I transfer all the contents of my current hard drive to the new one, would Windows 7 be included? If not, how would I go about getting Windows 7 without re-buying it?

installed a 60GB SSD a couple of years ago when they were quite expensive. I planned to use it solely for the operating system (Windows 7 Ultimate x 64). However over the years, it has become full to overflowing. I would like to clean it up and return it to the operating system only. Unfortunately I do not have the original disks or access to the installation programs for most of the information on the SSD. I have two other hard drives in the system - a 500GB Velociraptor that I originally wanted to hold all the programs and a 1000GB for the data. Can anyone tell me the best way to transfer the data off the SSD without screwing up my system?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a small SSD that I use for my Win 7 OS. When I set-up my PC I used a small program to transfer my Docs, Pics and a few other user files to my D: drive. I also install most of my programs to D: Since that time I have some files in my C: users****Appdata that are growing quite large. When I right click on the folder properties there is no location option for me to change. Somewhere along the line that great little program that assisted me to move them has disappeared and for the life of me I can't remember what it was called. I would really like to get these large files off my tiny SSD.

I am having issuse with an XP-win 7 upgrade.
When I use WET utility it tries to install all my files onto my small C:drive. The original .mig file comes from a computer with C: J: K: drives... the new comp just has C: and D:.
Why isn't it giving me an option to map the drives when I upgrade?
It tries to install on C drive then gives up when it runs out of space.
When I look at the map drive tab in WET it says 'no drives are available for mapping.'
I have a 60gb SSD which I am presently using as my WIndows 7 boot drive, all of my picture documents and prgrams are all located on a separte SATA 2tb drive within my system.
I now wish to upgrade my boot drive as I have run out of memory. Is there a way in which to do this without to that the new SSD drive to be installed will recognise all my preexisting programs and documents on the SATA. I really do not want to to have to uninstall all my programs on the SATA and then re install when I have installed my new SSD boot up drive.
This may be a silly question. Can I purchase and subsequently download Windows 7 Student onto a macbook and then, using a USB drive, install it on a new, unformatted computer?
