Download Windows 7 Onto A Mac And Transfer To New PC Using USB Drive
Apr 22, 2012
This may be a silly question. Can I purchase and subsequently download Windows 7 Student onto a macbook and then, using a USB drive, install it on a new, unformatted computer?

I originally set up Easy Transfer to move programs from my C: drive that had no partition.
I decided to load Win 7 on a partitioned drive with the OS in one partition (Drive e: with 80 GB) and the rest of the data in the other partition on the same drive, showing as drive F: with 920 GB, (1 TB physical drive)
When I try to transfer the data from my external hard drive, it wants to download it all into the small partition E: . There is not enough room and the program fills up the small partition and stops.
How can I specify that it should DL the data to my larger partitioned drive E:?

I'm wanting to transfer my version of Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit to a replacement hard drive. I'm using a 5400 rpm 300gb hard drive right now, but am wanting to replace that with a new 1.5tb 7200 rpm hard drive, but wanting to use my same copy of Win7. I haven't been able to find a way to do this without the use of an external hard drive.

So I just installed my new 1tb 7200rpm hard drive, and it runs perfectly, my only problem is windows 7 is on my 500gb hard drive, so i want to move it over to the obviously faster hard drive. What's the least complicated/easiest way to do this?

I recently discovered that my hard drive is damaged and I need to buy and install a new one. With that said, it would be convenient to move all my files to an external hard drive and transfer them over to the new internal hard drive. If I transfer all the contents of my current hard drive to the new one, would Windows 7 be included? If not, how would I go about getting Windows 7 without re-buying it?

I have a 60gb SSD which I am presently using as my WIndows 7 boot drive, all of my picture documents and prgrams are all located on a separte SATA 2tb drive within my system.
I now wish to upgrade my boot drive as I have run out of memory. Is there a way in which to do this without to that the new SSD drive to be installed will recognise all my preexisting programs and documents on the SATA. I really do not want to to have to uninstall all my programs on the SATA and then re install when I have installed my new SSD boot up drive.

I have been suggested to keep my data in a separate drive than my operating system.
Actually, my hard drive is partitioned in two drives, c: and F:
I want to transfers my directory c:user to f:user. I did try to copy between them, but some files where not transferred
So what is the best way to do that. After, do I need to do special thing to make sure that all the references will be followed to the new files positions, IE when accessing them via my task manager

My current hard drive has been getting wonky on me. About a month ago it came up with bad sectors. Replaced them with backup sectors. Nothing bad has happen since then, and I scan almost every day just in case. I am considering buying a new 1TB just because it will be newer, and faster. This disk is getting a lot of read/write errors and takes a while to do some stuff now.
My question is, does anyone know if it is possible to transfer your windows 7 partitions to a new drive directly without using a 3rd drive as a medium. The hard drive I am using is 750gb, and as I said, I am getting a 1TB. So does anyone know an easy way I can just plug in the new drive, use software to copy over Windows 7 to the new drive and it still work?
I know Windows 7 installed 2 partitions, so that is what is confusing me. Because I can not even see the other partition it uses.
PS: I have all my files backed up on 2 other drives. So don't worry about that.

I have read up on how Windows Easy Transfer works and on the page that gives the options for storing the back up file, you have one option for External drive or USB external drive.
No mention is made of being able to use an already installed 2nd internal data drive. Has anyone been able to successfully use an internal drive with WET?

installed a 60GB SSD a couple of years ago when they were quite expensive. I planned to use it solely for the operating system (Windows 7 Ultimate x 64). However over the years, it has become full to overflowing. I would like to clean it up and return it to the operating system only. Unfortunately I do not have the original disks or access to the installation programs for most of the information on the SSD. I have two other hard drives in the system - a 500GB Velociraptor that I originally wanted to hold all the programs and a 1000GB for the data. Can anyone tell me the best way to transfer the data off the SSD without screwing up my system?

I have a small SSD that I use for my Win 7 OS. When I set-up my PC I used a small program to transfer my Docs, Pics and a few other user files to my D: drive. I also install most of my programs to D: Since that time I have some files in my C: users****Appdata that are growing quite large. When I right click on the folder properties there is no location option for me to change. Somewhere along the line that great little program that assisted me to move them has disappeared and for the life of me I can't remember what it was called. I would really like to get these large files off my tiny SSD.

I am having issuse with an XP-win 7 upgrade.
When I use WET utility it tries to install all my files onto my small C:drive. The original .mig file comes from a computer with C: J: K: drives... the new comp just has C: and D:.
Why isn't it giving me an option to map the drives when I upgrade?
It tries to install on C drive then gives up when it runs out of space.
When I look at the map drive tab in WET it says 'no drives are available for mapping.'

I run the system recovery with the build in recovery partition from Sony but the installation cannot be completed due to the hard disk failure. I want to replace with a new hard drive but also want to keep the original recovery partition because there is some useful software that is included. I have a external adapter to connect my hard drive through USB to my computer and have a software to recover the data in the recovery partition.
