View 26 RepliesI have been having a problem with my browser and windows explore reverting back to the starting page/point. After some time of use, (sometimes this starts right away, sometimes it doesn't) when I am using iexplorer, whatever tab I am on, it starts clicking back wards through the previously visited pages until it comes to rest at my home page. If I click to one of the other open tabs, it does the same.I also have the windows sound "device disconnect" sounding every 30 seconds or so. I stared out resolving this problem in the virus forum but after working through that, it has been determined it is not an infection.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a lenovo laptop for home purpose around 1.5 months back. The laptop was having already microsoft security essentials (MSE) and mcafee antivirus plus software. Unfortunately, yesterday i was facing blue screen on death type of error (BSOD) error. On one forum, I found that it may be due to the mcafee antivirus software. So, I uninstalled the software as per suggestion. Why MSE was not able to detect this bsod error? Moreover, why mcafee, which itself is a anti-virus software, was causing this issue?
Morever, I want to install good free antivirus software. I am totally confused whether should I install the antivirus software or, the internet security software. Please throw more light on good free internet security software from longer perspective. (I just found that almost all free trials are only for 1 month only)? Moreover, why built-in windows firewall and microsoft security essentials (MSE) are not enough for detecting malacious software. Why extra internet security software or antivirus software is required ?
I've been trying to remove the Windows 7 Security 2012 virus, and I've been trying to follow the steps to rid my computer of this wretched virus, but when I run rkill or malware-bytes, my computer blue screens, I'm not sure what the error is, for my computer restarts quite soon afterwards.Since I can't run either of those programs, how am I supposed to get rid of this virus? I've never had this problem before, but since yesterday I've been encountering these blue screens.Should I just reformat? Is my RAM defective? Is it another program or virus causing this to happen?

I'm running windows 7?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI generally do not like virus checkers. They seem to be resource hogs and slow down operations. I also get irritated by false positives (Avast) & continuous updating. I have ran my laptop w/o any protection for 2 years w/o incident. An occasional spybot portable scan only seems to find a couple of tracking cookies.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy daughter got a Security Shield virus on her laptop and I managed to remove it using this BC thread: [URL]. The laptop uses Windows 7. The removal seemed to work fine, although one slightly odd thing (compared to the thread's advice) was that I didn't have to change the LAN settings/Proxy server when I booted up in Safe Mode - the virus was preventing internet access but didn't appear to be doing so by the Proxy server change. So I was able to access the internet perfectly well when in Safe Mode with Networking.
I downloaded everything I needed using the laptop wirelesly and scanned/removed the 2 security shield virus files using malware bytes. Then, when I rebooted as normal in order to complete the process and update the HOSTS files, I couldn't access the internet wirelessly. The router is working fine and when I connect via ethernet cable the laptop communicates fine with the internet. It just refuses to let me connect wirelessly.
I have tried:
- Checking all firewall options in McAfee (though I guess this wouldn't enable a wired connection either if it was the problem)
- Removing and reinstalling the wireless device (via device manager)
- Deleting and resetting up the wireless profile
Just not sure what to do next....
my computer caught a virus and I've had to reboot my computer. When I finally got it fixed today, I've been trying to re-install some programs to my computer. My Acer came with a Microsoft product key code, so I thought that meant I owned the software for Office 2010, and that I could put this code in today and it would load the program back on the computer. When I opened the activation wizard, it wouldn't accept my product key like the last time. Do I need to purchase Microsoft again, or can I still use this code and how.

Everytime I start the computer this update is ready to be installed again. Evertime this file has been installed the installation has been successful. If the instalation was succesful why does windows keep on intalling it over & over again. Does anyone know the answer to this problem I am having. Once a new update has been succesfully installed, Windows 7 should not have to install it over & over again.
View 4 Replies View RelatedFor the last 2 days I have been trying to do a full virus scan with Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) and it gets hung up every time on WindowsSystem32CodeIntegritydriver.stl It will do a quick scan just fine but that is it. When it gets hung up on this file I try to cancel the scan and end up having to use the task manager to close out the program and then I have to reboot my computer to have MSE working in the taskbar. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, removing programs that were recently installed, I ran malwarebytes and that came up clean, I tried restoring to an earlier time and that didn't work, I tried safe mode and it did not work. I do not have a wireless mouse or wireless keyboard. Some sites suggested that might be a problem. I installed and tried Super Antispyware and that did not work properly so I uninstalled it. I do not know what else to do. I sure would feel better if I knew my antivirus program would do a full and complete scan. It is always the same file that it gets stuck at. I even tried putting that particular file in the excluded files within the MSE program and that didn't work either. It just kept trying to scan it. I have Windows 7 Home Premium with 64 bit operating system. With having our Church records, our business files and then of course my personal files/pics it always makes me nervous when something isn't working properly.

I re-install Windows 7 x64 quite often on several PCs and it's always a time-consuming pain to wait for the updates to slowly trickle in from Microsoft. I have browsed the MS site looking for such an item, to no avail.

The new Outlook Hotmail Connector supports HTTPS, a protocol that encrypts all traffic between the email client and the Windows Live Hotmail service. Microsoft added an all-HTTPS option to Hotmail in November 2010, in part as a reaction to Firesheep, a Firefox add-on released the month earlier that let anyone scan an unsecured Wi-Fi network and hijack others' access to Facebook, Twitter and a host of other services. This week's update to Outlook Hotmail Connector is a follow-up to Microsoft's 2010 move.

View 4 Replies View RelatedRecently, a Windows update arrived called Microsoft Security Essentials Client Update Package - KB2544035. Since then my computer started malfunctioning. Whenever, I try to install the update, everything goes fine, and then suddenly goes blank and the desktop returns (but the Windows update screen had closed). When I open Windows update, it shows that the aforesaid update is not installed. And when I try to open Microsoft Security Essentials shortcut on my desktop, the machine is not able to find it and asks to delete it. I can't even open Microsoft Security Essentials manually from Program files. Things return to normal on System Restore. But the Microsoft Security Essentials appears potentially unprotected and asks for a full system scan. But before the scan is complete the Microsoft Security Essentials screen closes and the desktop returns once again. And, once again, when I try to open Microsoft Security Essentials shortcut on my desktop, the machine is not able to find it.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have started my weekly scan with Microsoft Security Essentials when I have noticed some things:
- MSE stalled on a specific file which posed no problem in the past and the timer refused to increase even after 10 or so minutes.
- MSE has locked up my computer or slowed it down to the point where I have to do a hard restart. This never happened before
- Other programs have taken a major performance hit like Google Chrome for example. Even Windows 7's explorer has locked up time to time.
- System restore is not working since it stalled on the initializing phase for at least 30 minutes without significant progress, prompting a hard restart.
- It took a lot longer for the system to shutdown normally.
I have issues on the computer that I have not have before and I'm not sure why. Is there a solution that does not involve a clean re-install? I do not have the DVDs since the laptop has Windows 7 built in and they did not give me a CD.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded my OS in order to solve registry issues retaining to the corrupted windows installer. When I try to enable the Microsoft SE, it would not work. I went into the control panel (Add/remove programs) and removed it. So when i try to reinstall Microsoft SE, I am getting weird error (0x8004ff82). I am not too familiar with the regedit, but I think the problem is a registry file.... I have already tried MicrosoftFixit, and it did not work.
View 11 Replies View RelatedFinding it impossible to install Security Update for Microsoft Works 9 (KB2680317) from WIndows Update
Details Download size: 2.1 MB
You may need to restart your computer for this update to take effect.
Update type: Important
A security vulnerability exists in Microsoft Works 9 that could allow arbitrary code to run when a maliciously modified file is opened. This update resolves that vulnerability. I get error code 646. All other updates are installing successfully - have also run the Windows Update "fixit" which is the only available way from MS but makes no difference. I don't routinely open any files unless I am sure of their provenance so I'm not overly concerned - it's just annoying to have constant update failures on this one. Not even sure I have Works 9 ...although obviously it thinks I do ....
I've been getting a BSOD whenever I run a MSE full scan, it runs for a couple of hours and then crashes.sorry, the PassMark RAMMon wouldn't attach as an html file)

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 7 Ultimate and I have my Windows Update settings set to "Download updates but let me choose whether to install them." The reason I use this setting is because even though I usually install the updates (because mostly they improve things), sometimes I'll see an update that I know I do not want to install. So I want to have control over which updates get installed. However, I ALWAYS want to install the latest "Definition Update For Microsoft Security Essentials", and since those updates are released very frequently, it's very annoying to always have to install them manually. Is there a way that I can have ONLY those definition updates installed automatically while still leaving it so that all other updates are not automatically installed?
