View 8 RepliesI have a laptop with Vista and I bought a dvd of Windows 7 Full version that I want to install on this laptop. I want to remove Vista. Do I have to format the c drive before installing Windows 7 or will this be done during the installation process?
View 7 Replies View RelatedFirst what I did was use the command prompt (after using system repair disc) to completely reformat my drive c partition on my laptop. Then when I tried to install Windows with the installer cd, it just simply didnt want to boot up. I already tried setting up the BIOS so that it would start the cd/dvd drive first, and I also tried using my windows vista cd. When I used the vista cd and tried to install it on the partition some message shows up on the bottom saying "theres a problem with the hard ware" or something like that..

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently reinstalled Windows 7 last night because it had kernel errors (the windows 7 interface, shell, exc. crapped out). I backed everything up to HD2 and then deleted everything off HD1 and installed. I was tired and never thought about it until now... Is it bad to install windows 7 on an un-formatted hard drive? Because I'm noticing this thing doesn't copy/paste/delete files as fast as it previously has. On a side note; wow did you know how many services and processes eat up memory by simply installing your everyday programs? This clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate has 1/3rd of the processes that it used to run!

I have a hard drive with 3 partitions and I was wondering whether it was possible to back up all of my stuff on another partition rather than using an external hard drive. Does installing a new OS only format one partition?

View 1 Replies View RelatedIf I use a commercial software like Drive Scrubber to clean my HD, will a Win 7 Upgrade Discboot ? I want to eliminate any possible virus/malware. Is there any advantage to using commercial software to format, or is the reinstall format listed in the tutorials as effective? My concern is that Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 (KIS) had corrupted data bases and after removal and reinstallation did not perform well. I could not download anything, e.g. CCleaner and received Certificate Error questions on certain websites. Also, I would like a fresh registry to insure previous programs like Chrome, Firefox, KIS, remnants are eliminated.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am giving Fedora (Ext4) the boot from my 150G VelociRaptor and replacing it with Windows 7.What is the difference between a 'Quick' format and a 'Full' format. Does a quick format simply rewrite the FAT and a full format write 0's to the sectors? The reason I ask, is that I am concerned that the Linux Ext4 formatting may leave artifacts which I can do without. So, bite the bullet and go the long route, have lunch and a nap or take the quick way out?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've got a 1gb Pendrive, used to work.. but it spewed up 'Corrupt files' errors, and then finally gave up completely. It won't open, and asks to format it, I've tried every option it gives me but it won't format.. Supposedly, it's got 0 bytes of space, but on Disk management, it's 969MB RAW format, but it's a healthy primary partition. Formatting isn't doing anything, so.. It's pretty important! I need the USB to flash my BIOS, which will then unlock my CPU settings (It's a modded BIOS Btw.) so I can Overclock my E6300. So.
