I would like to change the default program for .pdf from TeXworks to foxit reader, but the file extension .pdf doesn't show upfoxit also doesn't show up in the set default programsi can "open with" foxit and texworks, i would just like to quickly be able to open .pdfs with a double click

View 2 Replies View Relatedbasically (I'll try to be descriptive), I have an Excel file (extension xlsm) on my USB and I right click it, send to --> desktop (create shortcut). I see the shortcut. I right click and attempt to rename it with a different file extension, but the 'Rename' box doesn't show up like I believe it should and the file name changes without the warning. I need to do this for the shortcut I've created, not the file on the USB.I have 'Hide extensions for known file types' unchecked and 'Display the full path in the title bar' checked, as I believe they should be.

All my icons on my desktop turned into PDF files and I couldn't even open Firefox or Yahoo communicator because it was in the wrong format. I tried to follow some help and download and merge the .reg fix. I have tried different things and restarted my PC many times. All the icons look like the .reg building blocks now and I can not restore the icons like before.

It was supposed to be a .RAR file but something failed and it left this. Now when I try sending it to the recycle bin it says that this is not the valid location of the file. So now I don't know where it is. I tried using FileAssassin but it couldn't be deleted.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a document that has acquired a .lnk extension and shows a Shortcut type file and I cannot open.I was suggested to go to Sart > Control Panel > Programs > Default Programs > Associate a file type or protrocol with a program > Set Assocations I did that and chose Word to open the document. The result was that almost all programs including IE and Systems Tool tried to open with Word.I had to run a System Restore from the Control Panel and all is fine now. However, can someone give me an idea how the document got the .lnk extension and Shortcut type? Also, is there a solution to this being that the above didn't work?I still cannot open the document and the program associated with .lnk reverted to unknown application.

Now I have tried to find the system image, but I don't know what file extension the image backup should have.
In my backup folder, below, only two .VHD files are present, and a bunch of XML Documents.

Everyday I upload some files to my website and to simplify my website operations, I use the same filename and just upload a file with new information every day. The case of file extensions is of no consequence to Windows 7, but it matters to my website. I want to standardize on one case and it doesn't matter which as long it's the same all the time. I have one app, the snipping tool, which seems to generally make files using uppercase, but I have some existing files that are lower case. I have tried to get rid of the lower case extensions by deleting the file and then recreating it with the same name. When I do, Windows changes the case from upper to lower. If I simply create a brand new file with no previous instances of that file in existence (as far as I know), then the default case is upper. How does one go about converting all existing files of a particular type to a standard file extension case, be it upper or lower.

I just recently got a 1080p TV (kinda late I know) and was just doing rips at 720p in .mkv and then converting them using mkv2vob to .m2ts using what I assume is an mpeg2 codec. I've noticed if I do the same with 1080p movies it stutters and the sound cuts out here and there. I havent tried yet, but I read that using x264 as the codec and .mp4 as the containter (please forgive me I'm using the wrong terminology, I really dont know a ton about this). Would that give me better performance? Or could someone suggest a way to make 1080p while still keeping good quality 5.1 audio stream perfectly?

Netgear 16 port 10/100 switch, both the 360 and the server are on it. It might be important to note that the server could be recording one or two shows at once while I'm watching the movie.
I need to be able to upload jpeg files to our website and the software package I use for that requires that the filename be entered in lower case in the format "filename.jpg". However, I've recently upgraded from XP to Windows 7 and note that JPG is being added in uppercase after my typed fileneme so that I end up with "filename.jpg.JPG" which is rejected by the uploading software. My web designer tells me that this is attributable to automatic file type recognition in Windows 7, and not to the upload software. How can I switch that off?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am experiencing a problem with Windows 7 professional, 32 bit, where I am getting an error message (detailed below) when trying to open a file with an unregistered extension. For example, if I rename a file that ends in .txt and contains text, to something with a .test extension the "Open with..." dialog never appears, and I instead get the permission denied message. AVG premium is installed, however through a combination of disabling AVG as well as providing exceptions to the file extension, I can fairly safely rule out intervention from AVG. Windows Defender is disabled, Windows UAC is disabled as well. The Windows Firewall is on, but checking the settings for the firewall suggest no issues would be coming from there.To add to the fire, if I register the .test extension to open with notepad, the file will open fine and text is displayed as expected. Also of note, I can read the file from command prompt even when the extension is not registered to an application.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWindows 7 has it's own 80gb harddrive but i have another HDD with Ubuntu 9.10 in a 20GB partition and a sharedNTFS in the remaining 130~ GB.
The NTFS partition used to show up in 'My Computer' fine, but after re-installing Ubuntu 9.10 it doesn't. (NO i have not erased the entire disc as i can still access it in Ubuntu and it has all my files etc on)
Any ideas on how to get it to show up? it's even missing from the disc manager.
My External USB Hard Drive doesn't show up in My Computer Win 7 64bit.
I've just received my Western Element 2,5Tb today. When I first plugged it in, it worked normally. But due to my over-excitement, I copied too much files at the same time and it wasn't working anymore. I regretted doing this immediately.
I have searched on the internet to find some solutions but all of them didn't work. I've checked the Computer Management, Disk Management, but nothing about my External HD showed up. In the notification area, my laptop still detected it and I can removed it properly [even though i can't use it at all].
I tried to connect to my USB and another Samsung 500Gb HDD. And it worked perfectly fine. Then, I tried to connect my new HDD to my sister's lap [she is using Window Vista] and it worked perfectly fine too.
i only see a blackscreen until the logon screen shows up.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just installed windows 7 on a home built desktop. Everything seems to be running fine except my 3rd hard drive won't show up. In device manager it shows all 3 hard drives, but in My Computer it only shows 2.
The hard drive that isn't showing up in My Computer (but showing up in Device Manager), is a Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1 TB.
The hard drives that are showing up are both Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 but one is a 500 GB the other is a 750 GB.
I am trying to boot from a Windows & Installation disk on a eMachine T3522.
What I am doing is just after turning the PC on I press F10 and the following Options come up:

I just installed windows 7 on my 64gb SSD sata3 hard drive i did a clean install. Now my 1TB Hard doesnt show up in windows. It shows it in the bois and in the device manager but thats it....
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to overwrite Win7 32-bit with Win7 64-bit. When I run Win7 install it does not find my two HDDs (they are RAID-1). When I look in my Device Manager (before starting the install process) under "Disk Drives" it only shows "GRAID SCSI disk device" and some other drives that are not hard drives. It does not show two HDDs. The BIOS shows both drives and shows a GRAID-1 configuration. I am not sure what to do next to get Win7 to either find the HDDs to write the new Win7 to or do something with the "GRAID SCSI disk device." I bought this machine like this and am not familiar with how to set these things up: I am not an expert.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI bought these new headphones Ozone Attack, and the sound works great on them, but the microphone doesn't work in any program. Doesn't work in Skype, TS3, and it doesn't even pick it up in Recording Devices. It's the kind of headset where it's not a USB; it's got a plug for the mic and another for the headphones. They're both plugged in firmly, and I've updated my audio thing which is IDT High Definition Audio CODEC. My laptop is a HP Pavilion g6-1241sa Notebook PC. I've also gone into Recording Devices and checked for any disabled mics, but the one in my headset isn't there. And even though my headset is set as the Default Communication Device, the mic doesn't get picked up under Recording Devices. Push to Talk is also not on. The headset is also shown only under Playback Devices.
