Few Weird Errors With Win7 64bit
Jun 20, 2009
Ok using my system as normally, then just few hours ago, some odd things started to happen.
Firstly cannot alt-tab, it just doesn't stay, secondly I can't get the preview of the application on the task bar won't appear correctly. Each time I move the mouse on task bar, the preview flickers as it were.
Now the last things I installed on my system was Firefox RC1 and new nVidia drivers, now removed RC1 of firefox, updated the drivers as I thought it was a graphical error but no luck, anyone else the same issues?

I'm not sure exactly how to describe what is happening. I built this computer myself. (Don't think listing the parts is necessary for this problem/solution)
Basically, I'll be browsing the net, or even just doing homework on word or excel, and the computer will start to act funky. First it will freeze, from 5 - 30 seconds, mouse doesn't move, can't ctrl alt dlt, can't alt f4, nothin. When things snap back out of freeze mode, sometimes the mouse icon gets all funky, like normally if a hyperlink is hovered over it turns into a hand right? well it'll be a I cursor or it might be an old school looking hand that's all 8 bit.
It will freeze again, and usually the 2nd time it wont come undone and I usually reset my computer at this point.

I have purchased and downloaded both 32 bit and 64 bit Windows7 Professional (no CDs or media here only download version)
I sucessfully upgraded from Vista 32 to Windows 7 32
Then I upgraded my hard disk (140Gb 500GB) and RAM (3GB to to 4GB)
Now I would like to go from Windows 7 32bit to 64bit
When I try and run the Windows 7-P-retail-en-us.x64.exe file it upacks the box then stops with this error:"We are unable to create or save files in the folder in which this application was downloaded. Please check the folder properties to make sure that you have security permission on the folder to write flies and that that folder is not read only".
I am the System Admin and I have full rights, and have moved the exe and the setup box files to My Documentsand I have modified the directory properties/attributes but I still get the same error over and over.
I searched the posts and some people stated one needs a clean install others say you can upgrade from any version so I am trying the upgrade here especially since the upgrade from Vista 32 to Windows 7 32 was smooth and did require all the extra work of a reinstall.

I purchased the Win 7 Pro Upgrade 32bit via digitalriver, but I've been doing some reseach and probably should have selected the 64bit version.
- Any ideas how I can get the 64bit version?
- For those who ordered the 32bit back-up disc kit for the extra $15 and have received it, does it come with both 32bit & 64bit?
- I've already installed and activated the 32bit version, but when I go to install the 64bit version, will I need to / is there a way to deactivate my initial 32bit install or will this not matter?

I downloaded Windows 7 x64 and x86. i was in dubai last week and installed the x86 on my parents PC. works like a breeze and the installation couldnt have gone smoother.
I come back to melbourne and try the install on my PC and whether I run it through my current win7beta OS or whether i boot drom cd, both thr x64 and x86 give me error 0x80070241 around the 15% installation mark. after many attempts, i thought that i was perhaps because when doing a clean install, Windows 7 doesnt let you do a full format but only a quick format.
so i got a friends PC and did a full format. x84 installed upto 50% and gave me error 0x80070570.

My wife's computer with 7600 RTM 64-bit installed is experiencing about daily BSOD errors. She had similar problems under XP 32-bit as well and I tried replacing various components and drivers to see if I could resolve the problem. Nothing seemed to help. The problem might be resolved for a while, but eventually always came back regardless of what I tried to do.
Restarting the computer Windows presents a "recovered from serious error" dialog and displays an error message. The message we typically get is similar to:

The last couple of times I've booted up Windows 7, prior to launching the OS, It has felt the need to perform some sort of drive error checking task, and as far as I know, I haven't scheduled any 'checking for errors' type-tasks for my hard drive.
What's going on?

Ok, so i'm going to attempt to describe in detail what exactly is happening here.
My computer has 2 hard drives. One is a 320gb SATA and the other, a 180gb PATA.
I've had windows XP professional SP3 installed on the 180gb HDD for a very long time with absolutely no problems. The main use of the 320gb HDD was storage.
A couple of months ago i decided to give Win7 a whirl so i downloaded the 7100 RC 64bit build. I backed up the data on the 320gb HDD, i formatted and i installed win7. After some time, for absolutely no reason, my steam client running on winXP stopped running. Every time i try to start it i get a "Fatal Error: Failed to load platform modules".
"Why is this relevant?" you might ask. Well, the same time steam stopped working, WIN7 started giving me EXTREME compatibility errors...
What do i mean by extreme? Well, absolutely nothing works. I can't start notepad, i can't start MSpaint, i can't start any EXE whatsoever because every time i get an error telling me that the program ws not designed for the current operating system i'm using. I can't remember the error by heart but i know it's a compatibility issue. The OS boots fine, i just can't use anything on it.
This has happened 3 times now. Every time the same thing. I format both HDD's, i install win xp and everything i need on it, then i install win7 64 bit and install everything i need there aswell and then after 2 or 3 weeks of absolutely smooth and trouble free OS goodness, everything goes to hell. I have no idea what's happening or why. I really need help since i can't live through another 2 formats/installs/backup moves and such.
Feel free to demand any further info and i will be more than happy to provide it.
here's some basic info on my PC specs:
CPU: intel core 2 duo E6750 @ 2,66Ghz (OC'd to 2,85Ghz)
GPU: nVidia 9500 GT
MoBo: ConRoe 1333-D667 Rev. 01 (this one)
RAM: 4gb (2x 2GB Kingston KVR667D2N5/2G) 2gb PC2 5300 CL5 240-pin DIMM
Hard Drives: 1x Western Digital (WDC WD1600JB-00GVC0) PATA
1x Hitachi (HDT725032VLA360) ATA
i recently bought the 4GB of ram only to find out that my mobo only handles 3,2 GB of that, the rest being used for something i still dont know (no not extra GPU memory)..

I have done a clean 32 bit Win 7 install over a previous 64 bit install on the C partition. The D partition was not touched but now is inaccessible as is my external USB hard drive. Both are NTFS and up until yesterday had no errors or problems. It is a 64 to 32 bit problem or access permissions?

First off my power supply went out. It was a 450watt one I ordered and replaced it with a 750watt power supply. After I replaced the power supply, my computer would not boot, When the power supply went out it was in the middle of updating windows. So I formatted the hard drive and did a clean install of windows, reloaded all my drivers and extra programs. At that point my computer was running great.
I decided to uninstall Bing tool bar, and windows live sign in assistant. it prompted my to reboot. When I rebooted the computer, after about 30 minutes it still had not come up to the desktop, I could boot up in safe mode and it would run fine. I did a system restore, no change, I did a start up repair, no change, Tested the memory it came back fine.
At that point and reformatted the hard drive again, I had another hard drive formatted it and put the install CD in and after 8 hours it is still trying to install Windows 7, No errors just really really slow. So I have replaced the power supply, hard drive, and ran a memory test with no errors, done a clean install of windows. Running Windows 7 64 bit, 4 gig of Ram, 2.8 dual core processor, 1 gig video card, 500 gig hard drive.

Can I have the XP Pro 32bit upgrade version and install the Win 7 Pro 64bit upgrade version?
I've not been able to get a clear answer on this.
Please note I'm not trying to run an upgrade from xp to win 7. I know it will be a clean install. That said, will Win 7 Pro Upgrade allow me to install the 64bit version if it sees a 32bit upgrade version of XP? People go off on tangents about upgrade and clean installs.

I upgraded from Win XP to Win7 Pro, but used the 32bit disk. What do I need to do to upgrade using the 64bit version of Win7 pro, (both 32bit and 64bit upgrade disks were sent in my upgrade purchase). Works great but want to try the 64bit version.
Do I need to reinstall WinXP to do a clean install, or can I just use the upgrade version 64 of Win7 without the XP?

I have 3 computers. The 1st computer has a wired connection to the 1st wireless router. The 2nd computer has a wireless connection to the 1st router via Wireless LAN card. and the 3rd computer has a wired connection to the 2nd wireless router. The 2nd wireless router is connected to the 1st wireless router via repeater bridge with DD-WRT.
The problem is the 1st and 2nd computer connect to the homegroup just fine, but the 3rd computer can't connect to the homegroup, yet all the computers and see each other on the workgroup network just fine and I can share files as long as I share individual folders.
Also the 1st and 2nd computer can use remote desktop between each other just fine, but the 3rd computer can't be used via remote desktop, yet I can use the 3rd computer to use the first 2 computers with remote desktop.
Any ideas on what this might be?
BTW, Computer 1 and 2 are Windows 7 32bit and Computer 3 is Windows 7 64bit. But I get the same problem when all computers are 32bit.

After that success with Skype into Win7 decided to have another look at the programs I had problems with..DataDirector 2 ; EzyChart ; EzyManager...I installed an Acronis backup file, the original install with only Acronis up and running..what do you know!! have installed those 3 program now into Win7 64bit..would cost way over A$1000. to replace these "must have" for me programs plus heaps and heaps of work to transcribe Tax nec. data..
DataDirector went in easly but the other 2 took a bit of fiddling..I did have these installed in Virt. XP mode but even though MS Virt. PC is the best I have used by a long chalk, there are delays starting it up and it will hang sometimes when you first click into it..increaded Ram allacation to 1g helped a little..much much better to have all the programs in Win7
Just a quick word on Vista..have used this program from when first out, some problems with driver to start but since have found it a great program for me ..stable and better than XP.. but am finding Win7 better than both especially 64bit.... has to be the way to go I remember 8bit and 16bit..Did anyone see that program on Quantam computers?? they will be like an ocean liner to a rowboat..all I have to do is live long enough!!

I have been scouring the interwebs since successfully installing Windows 7 64bit RTM last night when my XP box got the "ntfs.sys corrupt or missing" and I could not for the life of me restore it. Screw XP, it was time to install Windows 7 anyhow right. Every piece of hardware was detected and installed except for my wireless card.
I have a AirNet AWD154, Linkskey LKW-G553, and Airlink 101 AWLH3026T.
Luckily I had 3 total so I was sure one was bound to work, but no, not even after downloading the newest drivers from the manufacturers website. Since at least 2 of the 3 use Marvell Libertas chipsets I figured getting that latest (3.1.1.7) generic driver would work.
In all cases I either get a "no compatible driver found at this location" or "installed but cannot start".

I have a new (replacement for a failed drive) Hitachi 500GB HDD that I'm trying to install Windows 7 64 bit on (full install disk). I have Win XP 32 on drive D: of another drive and want to dual boot. I used PMagic to partition the new drive into 2 250 GB partitions, the first as C: drive, active and primary---formatted NTFS. Thinking I would install on that partition.
When I run install on Windows 7 64 I get to the window where you can select upgrade or custom and I select custom install and select the c: drive. I then get a cannot find a system drive error message. I went bak and removed the partitions thinking maybe it would work on unallocated drive space same error message. I deleted the partition inside Windows 7 from the same screen and formated it there too and still get the same message. Diagnostics show that the drive is good. What am I doing wrong?

I bought my laptop about a year ago with Vista 32-bit pre-installed even though it is capable of running 64-bit, and now I'm looking to upgrade to Win7 and would like to make use of it's 64-bit capabilities. Is there any easy way of going about this? Since I got the computer with it pre-installed, it did not come with the 32/64-bit installation CDs for Vista. I can buy the Win7 64-bit upgrade CD from my campus store with my student discount, so I was hoping there would be a way for me to do this easily.

I upgraded from Vista64 to Windows7 64bit final (not a clean install) on an HP M9300T desktop.
Everything worked fine, until the final restart. System will start, I get the colored thingees, I get the Welcome screen, when it should go to my desktop, I get only a black screen with the arrow in the middle. Even if I boot into safe mode, I still only get the black screen...
I've tried reinstalling x4.
I can hit CRTL+ALT+DEL and get to the task manager, and I can run task, programs go on-line etc.
Ran the Nvidia control applet, the monitor is set to native resolution @ 59hz. Don't know if that is causing a problem, I've changed it but it doesn't seem to stay set.
Other than the DVI output I've tried VGA and HDMI outputs to several different screens from the GS 9800 video card, no change.
I even browsed to the Nvidia site and installed their latest Windows 7 64bit WHQL drivers. I've disconnected everything except the keyboard, monitor and mouse, I've pulled every card out of it except the video card, no change?

Im thinking I might regret. I was told its better to build ur own, so I did and nothing but problems! I had vista 64 / xp 32 bit bit and was having nothing but problems trying to get my video cards to work right! So someone told me to get Windows 7 and Ill have no problems. Wrong!
My problem now is that when I turn on the computer it doesn't give me the option to chose which operating system it just loads into Windows 7. Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this? When I hit the (my computer) option it sees Xp as the D drive. When I loaded Windows 7 I just threw the disc in and followed the directions. I didn't reformat anything cause the disc does it for u.

Havin a problem with operation Flashpoint 2 & win7 64bit. when I launch the game everything runs fine up to when I load the first mission. at this point the game crashes to desktop with the message "game.exe has stopped working". This makes no sense to me as I have been running this game on this Rig for a month now with no problems whatsoever.
I have been running the game through a 9600gt gpu but it sadly died a couple of weeks ago which meant I had to step down to my previous 8600gt. This is where I believe my problem lies although I have checked the game requirments and the 8600gt easily fits the requirments needed. can somebody please shed some light on a possible solution to this very annoying problem?
