Ethernet Port Dead After Full Windows 7 Install?
May 30, 2012On a Dell desktop with pre-installed Windows 7, due to a bad HD, I bought and installed a full retail version of Windows 7. Now the ethernet port is dead.

Full Sceen App Stops Computer Dead
Dec 14, 2009I am using the latest video driver for NVIDIA 8600. (This is ASUS laptop G1S gaming machine, with 4GB RAM, duo processor and nvidia is 256MB....Windows 7 ult. with all current updates)
-- Every time I go into any full screen video, the sound sort of resonates at a low gutteral level, completely hanging the computer. Then it simply turns off my computer...not reset, but completely turns off the computer. This consistently happens every time ANY full screen a/v application... anybody have any idea what the hell is causing this???? My motherboard was changed recently (ASUS Head Office in Korea changed the board themselves).
Ethernet Port Not Working
Aug 9, 2011We have 4 Emachines desktops running Windows 7. 3 of the 4 use a Cisco wireless adapter USB to get on internet through our Netgear router. Sorry if I'm using the names like I'm advertising for them, just don't know how much difference knowing brand to brand makes. Anyways one of the desktops USB just stopped working, it showed up in the device manager when you would plug something in but it could not read off of it. I tried multiple portable drives and it the USB wifi adapter quit working. After a few hours I somehow figured out that if I brought the desktop and plugged it into a ethernet cable it would get online. I then performed a Windows update and it fixed the USB's. It done that twice over the period of a week. Both times a updat fixed the problem. I say all that to say Sunday, the one computer that is hardwired to the router by Ethernet cable quit working. The difference is the USB's all work fine, but I believe there is something wrong with the Ethernet port. Basically the same scenario one day its fine next it's not. I've check for updates but it say there is none. I have changed ethernet cable between them, tried swapping port with the cable. Also I swapped other computers to the same ports, they got online fine without a problem. I called Emachines they walked me through a test like thing in dos then told me it was fine. I haven't installed anything recently it just quit?

Aug 27, 2009I'm helping my friend fix up his comp, but he lost the drivers to his Ethernet port. He did a clean install of his computer without really talking to me, so all drivers are lost. We installed windows 7 for his main OS, but it doesn't seem to support this driver natively.
He had a 3com 3C920B-EMB integrated fast Ethernet controller for the last driver, but finding it now seems to be impossible. If anyone knows anything specific on how i could get the drivers again, or how if theres an updated driver that would work for the same card thats be great. Im pretty sure the Ethernet port is built on the motherboard, its an old hp computer, before they were really reliable IMO. He does not have any of the driver discs or anything, bad with computers .
Block Access To Usb And Ethernet Port Completely?
Jan 28, 2013Basically all i want is to protect my content from getting copied to a USB FLASH Drive or through a ethernet cable to some other computer so all i want is to stop access to these places
I tried some of the things already -
1. Password protecting (does not work)
2. Disabling USB Flash Drive through BuduLock software (does not work)
SO all i want is a concrete and absolute solution, if there is one, to protect my data in my computer and stop it from being accessed by others through above stuffs i mentioned.
Nvidia NForce 680i SLI MB Ethernet Port Not Detected?

I have, as the topicsuggests:Nvidia nForce 680i SLI motherboardI downloaded the drivers from Nvidia's web site for the Win_7_64 drivers for this motherboard, but it will not allow me to install the Ethernet drivers when installing the WHQL download.Has anyone else had this problem? Any idea of how to get my PC back on the intarwebz?t: After looking through the .exe with all of the motherboard drivers, I've found that they do include an Ethernet driver, but during the installation, I only have the option of installing the 'Nvidia Storage Driver', none of the other components are even available to be installed.

Aug 19, 2011I re-purposed an old work computer into a media server and am trying to install W7 to it. It previously had XP on it and worked fine, except for the onboard NIC. Whenever I tried to use the NIC, the computer would shut down. Luckily I had an external USB wireless adapter which allowed me to bypass the onboard NIC.Now, when trying to install W7, it gets all the files copied/installed, then upon setting everything up, the computer shuts down. I'm guessing the reason for it is the NIC driver is attempting to install itself, but haven't seen it to be certain.Unfortunately, the board, an Intel DG965WH, is out of warranty and I can't afford a new board. I don't think I can disable the NIC in the bios, or with jumpers on the board (though don't quote me on that 2nd thought).Anyway, trying to install W7 again, and I'm going to try to browse to the Linksys adapter's driver if prompted. Maybe that will bypass the onboard NIC.

Mar 6, 2012Just got a new Asus Zenbook UX31E and am having a certain problem where if I plug my external drive (Samsung S2 1TB, USB 3.0, 2.5") into the 3.0 port windows tries to install a driver for the new device but fails. Now the drive powers on when connected but wont load up as an accessible drive and is not found is disc management.I've tried the HDD successfully in another laptop with USB 3.0 and it works fine on my Zenbook's USB 2.0 port so I'm guessing there's no problem with the HDD itself. Also I have tried a small flash drive in the Zenbook's 3.0 port which worked fine.I have tried updating the USB 3.0 driver to the latest version via Asus' driver database but have got the same result.I would of thought with such a prestigious laptop someone else would of run across this problem but all my googling has turned up ziltch.

Aug 3, 2012His system have 3 partitions, 2 of which (drive D and E) are dedicated to data. About 2 months ago, he did a full reinstall of his XP system and upgrade to 7. After sometime, for whatever reason, he downgraded his system back to XP. On that system, he did some work and added 50gb+ data to the data partition.Today, he reformatted the C drive and install 7 again. The funny thing is, the 50gb+ data he added when on XP now missing. All other data is intact. In fact, the state of the 2 data partition is like when he last use 7 before downgrading to XP.just to be clear, all his data partition is intact after today's 7 install, only those data (contained on several folders) he added when on XP is missing.

Jan 3, 2010Completed an install from XP to 7 by copying the install disk to my lap top hard drive, then running "setup".
Thought that this would delete the all of the old files. And, indeed, when I search for known file names, the search comes up empty.
However, the properties of the disk show the same amount of disk space used as before the install.
How can I remove these "ghost" files?

Nov 16, 2009I've installed Windows 7 Full version 3 times now but all of my old files are still on the computer. I used 'custom install' as I read that this would wipe everything...but it didn't. ???
My pc is choc-a-block full of rubbish and I want it all gone without having to go through deleting it all manually..I've been able to wipe everything with previous windows installs so I can't understand why it doesn't work with Windows7.
Also, I have 2 partitions on my hard drive (the other has Linux on it)...I'd like to go back to just having the one & installing windows7 over everything...does anyone know how I can do this.
