View 7 Replies View RelatedGot a new Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit machine, found that it did not come with virtual PC. Downloaded the critical patch Windows6.1-KB958559-x64-RefreshPkg.msu and installed it. Windows Virtual PC shows up in my Start Menu. Good so far. I go through the steps to create a virtual machine and use the option to 'use an existing vhd file' and when I click 'Create' I get the above pop-up message "Cannot attach the virtual hard disk to the virtual machine. Check values and try again". A factual message but completely useless as with all error messages from Microsoft. I have tried the following:1. When I attach that vhd using Disk Management, it mounts in drive E:, I can see the files and browse the dirs in E:. In the Disk Management View, the drive shows up as 127 Gigs but 107 is unallocated space. The physical size of the vhd is only 25 Gigs2. Others in my company were able to create the virtual machine with the same vhd, checked the byte size and timing, so nothing is wrong with the vhd file itself.
3. Tried to create after shutting down all virus protection including the Micorsoft antimalware protection service. No luck4. Tried Vhd resize to resize the vhd to a smaller size (since it showed up in disk management as 127 Gigs, I thought maybe it was that size), but VHDResizer could not open the input file, gave an errors "Can only load fixed or dynamic drives"
Any website I try to go to, an alert pops up saying that it contains viruses and it recommends that I download "Win 7 Home Security" or something like it. Alerts also pop up telling me of spyware and other things my computer are being attacked by, and it again prompts me to purchase "Win 7 Home Security" I'm pretty sure this Win 7 thing is a virus. My friend told me he had it before and that he had to wipe his PC clean. Maybe I need to do that, but I don't know how. Do I need to wipe my PC completely clean? How would I go about doing that?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been having an issue with the desktop alert not working in windows 7. I have come across 1 or 2 other people with similar issues, but no solutions. I have created separate folders for my mail to be routed to based on the account. Therefore, I do not get the desktop alert for the inbox, so I added that as an option to each rule. I have also added an audio file to be played. The issue is that the desktop alert window fails to show up after outlook has been on for a while.
The sound alert will play fine always. Within the email settings, the desktop alert preview button also fails to display anything. Sometimes I am able to get it to work once or twice by restarting outlook, but to do that I have to use the task manager to exit the program because just shutting down leaves OUTLOOK.EXE running. Once I first start it back up, it will close down correctly and immediately, and it will display the alerts.
I have not been able to narrow it down to what causes it to stop displaying alerts, (i.e. is it a time frame that the program has been open, a certain account, etc...). It will just stop displaying them, at which point the preview button doesn't work anymore, and the closing of outlook doesn't operate correctly. I have installed all updates to outlook based on the windows update site.
I will mention that I never had this issue in XP. Also, outlook used to always leave outlook.exe running when closed in XP, but that one of microsoft's recent updates fixed that. For some reason this just appears to happen in 7. I never had vista, so I have no info on that OS.

I realise that it should be possible with NET SEND / MSG commands but they obviously need the service turned on but i dont want to do that, plus i hear doing to all workstations doesnt work so well. When we use to use the intY Exoserver for a gateway this provided a popup box message broadcast as part of the client software but we do not use this anymore but miss that ability.I have search the web and sourceforge but not sure im searching for the right terms to find a free one.

They say do you want to protect and get rid of the viruses and then they want me to buy something and I say no. But the popup still happen about every 2 minutes and it says JEMonster is found. I did run Super anitspyware yesterday, but that is all I've done. It did remove stuff from the registry. I can't even use the computer.

It's installed, but no mater what, I can't run it even if I name it mbam.com, or anything of the sort.Also, my computer won't go into safe mode. I can run it normally, but when I press F8, I can pick to boot off my SARA, or my CD Drive, but piking either of those just takes me to system restore, where I wipe my hard drive which I"ll only do if it's a last resort.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI run Windows 7 on a Dell laptop and I want to uninstall AVG 2011 Free Edition. For some reason I cannot complete the process. I'm using the Windows uninstall program from the control panel because its the only place the program actually shows up in the menu to be uninstalled. After the program runs for a few mins I get an error code 0xC0070643 or a general internal error. It says AVG Watchdog could not be stopped. I've tried to go into the Task Manager and shut down all processes having to do with AVG but they dont stop!
I have Revo Unistaller on my pc but it doesn't even recognize the program. In other words, AVG doesn't even show up in the list of programs that can be uninstalled. I simply want to get rid of this and install Microsoft Security Essentials.
Last night while bring windows 7 home premium down it indicate 16 upgrades. The system appears to load the upgrades and the computer shut down. This morning I turned on the computer and I get to the screen "Preparing to configure Windows. Do not turn off your computer." It has been stuck here for over an hour. How long do I let it go before I turn it off?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI thought I would pass on my recent adventure of removing Win 7 Security 2011.After wasting about 4 hours of my time reading and trying to remove what I thought was a serious infection, I ended up using old relieable, Malwarebytes.1) Downloaded Malwarebytes to a flash drive using another computer.2) Copied Malewarebytes (via flash drive) to the infected computer.3) Rebooted infected computer in "Safe Mode With Networking".4) Installed Malwaebytes.5) Updated Malwarebytes.6) Rebooted computer in "Safe Mode With Networking".7) Ran Malwarebytes, deleted infection and rebooted.All done.

The result is that no matter what fix is posted here, MS does something to ensure the fix no longer works. Here's the laundry list of solutions that no longer work. Malwarebytes (various problems -- says file is open in Malwarebytes, is hidden and cannot be found even though Windows options have been changed to show hidden files) CCleaner (ineffective) index.dat Suite (currently completely disabled for Windows 7) index.dat suite (to find all files) combined with Eraser (to erase the files) (comes back wtih error message) Red Button (can't remember specifics here -- just that it doesn't work) Mil Sheild (can't remember specifics on this one either -- just that it doesn't work) and finally the instructions in the most recent thread on Index.dat which involve booting in safe command and going to the root file to delete index.dat.
