Will It Make Difference To Make Partition At Beginning Or End Of HDD
Jul 11, 2012I have two hdds (500gb 7200rpm) in my laptop and have 260gb of data on the second one. I wanted to create a partition for games at the beggining of the 2nd drive (the left side) as i heard it increased performance to put games in anoher drive and at the beggining of the drive.Will it make difference to make a partition at the beginning or at the end of this drive when it comes to gaming performance?My cousin showed me one game in the same drive installed in the 1st of four partitions of a 500gb 7200rpm (the same i have) performing with 3-5 fps more than that game installed in the 4th partition of that same drive....

Oct 21, 2011I have an iPhone 4 which has internet tethering. I can either connect this via the USB cable or wirelessly via my intel 6300N wifi card.
When I connect to my laptop via USB cable, the 'Set Network Location' box comes up, which I select Home Network. It is simply named 'Network', but I then go in and change 'Network' to 'iPhone'. This then shows up in the Network and Sharing Centre as iPhone on a Home Network. This works perfectly, is super fast and when I'm finished, I disconnect the USB and shut down.
When I next turn on my laptop and connect my iPhone internet tether via USB cable, I am once again asked to ''Select a location for the 'Network' network''. Windows 7 netwkr and Sharing centre isn't recognising the same iPhone is connected and asks me to set up a home network again.
I've gone into 'Merge or delete network locations' and the original 'iPhone home network' is set up (not in use) as well as the new 'Network' location that it's asking me to set up. If I merge the second 'Network' and original 'iPhone network', this removes the second network and I'm left with the 'iPhone Home network (in use).
If I disconnect the iPhone and reconnect, it asks me each time to select a network location for the 'network' network. If I don't merge them, I end up with Network 2, Network 3, Network 4 etc all the while still having the original iPhone network not in use as well as any other not merged or deleted.
Why won't it recognise the same iPhone as being connected and selecting the iphone home network that I set up and why does it keep asking me to create a new one whenever I connect?
This never happened before, with my laptop previously recognising the iPhone home network I originally created ages ago. There has been no significant updates or changes that I'm aware of, except that I updated my iPhone software, bt this has been done in the past numerous times with previous iPhone updates and hasn't happened before.
I have a Virgin wireless broadband usb modem, which the system recognises each time I connect it. It's only the iPhone connection that's not saving. The iPhone network is 'unmanaged' but so is the Virgin Broadband USB.
I have a Pioneer Dreambook P170HMx running Windows 7pro x64. If there's any other details you need, I'm happy to supply them. All I want is my system to save the network configuration and recognise when I connect the iPhone tethering that it's an already created iPhone Home Network.
Is Adding Extra RAM Going To Make Any Difference To Performance
Aug 10, 2011I'm looking for performance for graphics editing - high res and large files, 200MB files are not unusual - and do a lot of design and publishing work, sometimes on large and complex documents. Occasionally I'm working with video from phones but might get more into HD video in the future.Current machine does what I need quite happily - Windows 7 x64, 6GB (DDR3 10600) RAM, ASUS Sabretooth X58. I've got an opportunity to add some more RAM - another 12GB - for not much money. Might do it just to see what happens - but am I going to notice any difference at all? Are there any clever things that I (or the OS) can do with a surplus of RAM? Or will it just use more power?

Jun 18, 2009My backup software's profile database is expecting to backup to H:, which was the drive letter for my external backup drive back in XP. This drive comes up in Windows 7 as K, because Windows 7 has given my four usb card reader drives the letters F,G,H,I.
Disk Management will not show these four card reader drives unless media is inserted (connected vs. disconnected). I have changed the letters for F,G,I to T,U,W, but only because I have those types of cards (SD, CF, MS)...I do not have an XD or SmartMedia card for the one dang drive I really need to change.
What are my options, other than buying the cheapest SM card I can find to make the drive visible for this task? The SmartSyncPro database has many profiles, so remapping all those to point to K would be a major hassle.

Jan 20, 2012Want to know if their is anyway to make my laptop startup w/o showing error when it doesnt properly shutdown.My keyboard shorted out,wiggled the ribbon & the connector came off the motherboard.I have no usb keyboards.So if i don't shut down properly,it shows the error message with options.Usually startup repair is highlighted by default.And since I have no keyboard to change the option,it starts that automatically after countdown & I can't cancel it.
It's very irritating.I just been using the on screen keyboard,I actually don't mind that.I know just shutting it down properly will fix this.But their is times where I lose power to laptop sometimes.Im not a noob,I normally leave my laptop plugged up w/o battery when I use it.Sometimes the plug comes out(dogs knock it out etc.).I know most laptops are supposed to stop sending a charge to batt once it's 100%.But I think it's bs & don't trust it.My preference & opinion

Oct 6, 2011I recently purchased an Iomega 1TB external hard drive to back up my files from my Laptop (Toshiba satellite) because it has been constantly showing hard drive failure warnings and messages telling me to back up my files. When I connected the hard drive the first time, it worked fine and I was able to access it, but didn't use it for anything at the time. The next time I used it, however, the usual "New device" sound didn't play and the hard drive didn't show up in the file browser. I then looked up the issue to find that it is a common problem where the device hasn't been assigned a drive letter. I went to the Disk Manager to fix the issue but the device was not in the list of connected devices.The problem seems to be with my computer because it works fine on my brother's computer and has no issues.Additionally, I have been having problems with Windows Update being stuck on "Downloading 0%" and have had to use the system restore several times when getting stuck on an update message on startup. I think that this may be the cause of the problem (and yes, I have turned on the hard drive).

To troubleshoot, I've plugged each drive into every usb port on the laptop, and each port reads each drive alone, but if I plug in the second drive while the first is still in, it shoes up in devices but does not get a drive letter. I tried assigning a different drive letter to the device plugged in first, but Win still doesn't assign a letter to the second drive.

Just little things like that. Now when I try to play my audiobook I got today and it isn't recognized by WMP. When the look in Windows Explorer the files it contains are garbage- default style files of size 1kb with default track names like: Track01, Track02....Thinking that it could be that the CD might be readable on normal car CD players and similar, I double check with an old CD that I burnt myself a couple weeks ago.
