I have spent the last two hours trying to open a port for a remote control application.
I have tomato 1.27 running on an asus wl500gP router.
I am running windows 7 ultimate
i have an Arris voip modem through comcast
The problem is this, i forwarded the port correctly in tomato yet the port is still closed. I have tried the following:
Enabling DMZ
Disabling windows firewall by either the control panel or through services.msc
Enabled UPNP in the application, it opens the port according to tomato yet external port testers still say its closed
reset the router and pc numerous times
hard reset the router
Hooking PC directly into cable modem
I believe that this is strictly a windows 7 issue now as the router is out of the equation. The only security software I have is Avira free edition, windows defender, and (disabled) windows firewall.
Can anyone give me help as to why I cannot open a port? It would be greatly appreciated as I am leaving for a trip in 36 hours and would like to be able to remotely control this application.
I recently installed new software that requires port 8080 to function. When I try to run the software I get an error that port 8080 is being used. How do I check to see what process is using port 8080 so that I can open up the port to run the software? MACHINE: Windows 7x64
I need to open port 80 on my computer. I turned off my router's firewall for testing reasons and port 80 opened but i dont want to keep the firewall down. My router is an XMR100. How I can make an exception for port 80?
I would like to know if there is a way I can test if a specific port is open on an IP address and if my PC can connect to that port? How do you do this from Command Prompt? 'telnet iport' does not seem to work since it just says 'telnet' is not recognized as an internal or external command.
I do not want to use a website to do this, since they will test if they can make a connection from their servers to the ip port in question, not if the port between my IP address and the ip in question is open.
I know about NMAP and Netcat, but don't know how that works.
When i dial up, i get some Error Message 633 message about COM port being used by other application or modem not configured properly.
In device manager the modem seems OK, and i dont know of any other device using a COM port. I've tried different drivers, swapping the modem around inside the case but no joy and i'm getting really annoyed now.
im trying to host on WC3 and i went to portforward.com, but i still cant host. when i used a port checker it ways that the port is closed, any help would be nice.
For the past 3 days Ive been trying to open up ports in my router (Siemens sx763) with no luck. Ive done all the port forwarding correctly but when i check the port from a website it say my port is blocked. I use a wireless connection. I think ive done my other router/connections/ip settings wrong but im not sure what it is.

I'm trying to install Sophos and there fore the following ports need to be open: 8192, 8193 and 8194. All firewalls are disabled. But when I do telnet ip address 8192 (where ip address is the ip address of the problem pc) from the server I'm getting the following error message: Could not open connection to the host, on port 8192, connect failed. It's the same result for the other ports.
I googled how to open ports and it told me go in to windows firewall>advanced setting>new rule etc. I want to install a game so I need certain ports to be open and unrestricted. When I used online port checker sites they all say the required ports aren't open
I just bought a new computer from a computer shop. It is custom built and has the following:Has 8GB RAM, 3.3ghz intel core i5-2500k, windows 7, Intel HD graphics so upto 1.7GB max video memory, 1 VGA slot, 1 DVI slot.Just to confirm I checked in person and my tower has a VGA port and a DVI-D dual link port.
my 2 no usb port and lan port are not working other wise other 1 no usb port working this is new laptop i think driver not installed because when i connect the pendrive there was light showing in my pendrive.so i want drivr
I have a small network of six computers. Five of them run XP and I just added a Windows 7 machine. I've got a Microsoft Access 2003 database that all of the computers share that is hosted on one of the XP machines. The Windows 7 machine can access the Access database through the network just fine, as long as no one else is accessing it. However, if someone else on an XP machine on the network is using the file, it won't open on the Windows 7 machine. Doubling clicking the file on Windows 7 gives me the circling blue icon for a second or two, then nothing happens. If the XP user exits the database, then I can open it fine.
ok well i spent about 3 hrs and i know its not my router and its the os and i did a fresh install too im on 7600 rtm, now i got windows firewall and defender disabled, i got nod32 antivirus not with a firewall just the anti, now i got utorrent, so i use utorrents port checker, the port works for it but if i add a port to my portforwarding on my router it dont work, according to this port scanner, now if i enter it and use it as my port in utorrent it works! but anything else doesnt i dont get it i got windows firewall disabled and all that i literally think theres a hidden firewall or a virus but i know there isnt a virus i also did a scan incase so any ideas?
I literally cant press the "change settings" button in windows 7, (im using windows 7 RC), its dull and theres nothing i can do, trying to connect to spore if your wondering.
When I have a couple of screens open on my desktop. When I click on an icon for, lets say, iTunes, I can see the iTunes window appear behind the translucent taskbar of Win 7. Ditto for MS World. How do i get programs that are already open to open up with ONE click, instead of having to closed down all the other windows.
For a while my windows 7 64 bit would open my images in Documents. Now when I try they appear as a garbled strange format. If I go to PSP ProX2 they open fine. This is a problem for me since I often need to add images to document Newsletters I send out.
My computer crashed about a month and I want to format it. When I plug in the keyboard to go into bios it does not work. if i plug in anything at all it doesnt work, every usb port that is.
Last night my new laptop arrived (XPS), still getting used to windows 7 etc... but i thought i would watch something through my t.v. Plugged HDMI cable in back of laptop straight in to t.v, changed the source and straight away i had a lovely sharpe picture of my deskop instantly.... or so i thought
im getting the middle part of my screen fine - but it is cropped so i cant see the tool bar (its too low) and the desktop icons are only veiwable if i move them closer in screen! Ideally i want to have identical screens on both so i can use both at sam time, but currently i can only view either or atm? and the t.v one being crop means i can use it as a computer (No toolbar etc..)
I could figure this out on XP but windows 7 seems beyond me atm!
I have some crazy problem with port 80 . Everything was fine since last 5-6 days. When i try to connect to some pages i get this note on picture.
i tried every posible browser and same thing ! also tried disabling firewall and nothing ...problem is still here! this is only one of many pages that i cant load.
To all the computer geniuses out there, I guess this isn't a windows 7 problem but it's about drivers.I have an Asus K53E-B1 with Windows 7 64bit. It comes with 3 USB 2.0 ports and that's it. I went on the Asus website today and found USB 3.0 drivers update.I can't just download those drivers and use them and expect USB 3.0 performance when I have USB 2.0 ports right?
I have a quick question about the USB ports on my computer. I have a screenshot hosted here on Flikr: USB | Flickr - Photo Sharing! Of the 5 USB's that are listed, one is a USB2. Is the USB2 Enhanced Host Controller a USB2.0 port? I am looking because I am going to buy an audio interface and if I have a 2.0 in there then I will get something a little better 'cos I want as little latency as possible when recording vocals.
There is one other thing also, if it turns out that there is a 2.0 port, is there a way to physically differentiate which port is the 2.0? I have 3 USB's on the back and 2 on the front of my tower. At the moment I don't know which is which and do not know what to physically look for when I look in or out of the case.
I have an application to control external devices via IRDA.The application only accepts IRDA connected via a serial port.I only have a USB-IRDA device.
Is there any freeware driver/software to create a virtual serial port and link it with the USB device?
I use my computer aboard a 47' Sailboat primarily for navigation and communications. As such, I run multiple external devices. To name a few:
WiFi Cards (2)
GPS
Pactor Modem
Iridium Satellite Phone
Verizon Aircard
Telcel Aircard
You get the picture. I was unable to accomplish a very simple task using VISTA, to wit, being online with my Verizon Aircard and using one of the WiFi cards to access my wireless printer.
I finally downgraded to Windows XP and this is never a problem anymore. A Verizon tech once gave me an explanation of why this couldn't be done in VISTA, but unfortunately the explanation went over my head.
Does anyone know if this problem has been fixed in Windows 7, or does that OS have similar problems as VISTA handling multiple communications devices operating simultaneously on different USB ports?
I tried to change the default remote desktop port from 3389 to some other 4 digit number.
I did this via regedit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Control Terminal Server WinStations RDP-Tcp
I setup that port correctly as a port forwarder in my router. The original 3389 was working fine. However, the new 4 digit one is not strange enough (port forwarder is 'ok' according to one of those port forwarder checking sites). I tried to RDP from one network to my IP (confirmed correct) like this:
myipaddress:1234
1234 = being the actual port number I set up.
Of course, I do already have RDP enabled on both Windows 7 laptops.
What could be the cause of the invalid connection? It was working fine on 3389 by for extra security measures, I changed it to something else. I did restart the laptop as well.
if i plug my mic into my sound port its fine but cant change volume without changing volume on the device or on the computers master volume... if i check listen to device (so i get the volume control) i get an echo... is there any way to get rid of the origional sound? not the one that i can control
