I have just updated an old PC, which was working OK, to windows 7 professional.All seemed to go well, but I cannot contect to the internet via ethernet, In device manager it says the ethernet drivers are missing.
View 5 RepliesMy girlfriends parents have bought a new compaq laptop with windows 7. Connected up to the internet by cable & wireless no problem. Yesterday couldn't do either and found it nearly impossible to get into the routers settings to check them. Kept saying limited access. I've tried various things to no avail. Then I noticed that my iphone could connect to the router, so I ruled out a router problem. I brought the laptop home and it wouldn't connect to our router, so I'm presuming it's a settings problem. But now I'm stuck!

I can't access my wireless internet, I can only get to the internet via hard wire. I have searched Dell and Intel for the network controller driver and the sm bus controller driver, but to no avail.

I wasn't able to make it work under Vista, but I was hoping Windows 7 would have some changes under the hood to make it possible. (I have the Workgroup set up and the computers connected but when I try to connect from either direction I just get the message that the username/password combo is wrong.)
P.S. I'm using 64-bit Home Premium on an hp dv3t and a Mac Pro desktop if it makes any difference.
I have a RIYA Pro laser controller device. wich connects to the ethernet to receive commands from windows seven.Well my question is, how do i make windows regonise it?In the settings app of the controller(wich is installed on seven) it asks for a IP, ubmasks ect. But i have noooo idea what i should fill in there. windows, and the settings app, doesnt find the controller while it is connected to PC.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy windows home server has decided to stop communicating with the client machines.The connector software won't connect (reinstalling makes no difference), remote desktop times out, manually shutting down (by pressing the power button) and restarting also fails to correct the problem.I can ping the server (average response time 3ms)The Home Server machine is headless and although there is a connector the only monitor I have doesn't fit the connector.I susoect that the internal battery may have gone flat and may be the servers clock is out of sync with the client machine (but even when the server is asleep its still connected to the mains).
Someone has said that I can connect a laptop to the sever via an ethernet cable but the only instructions I can find say that I have to set the IP address on both machines to be the same - Is this correct or is there another way of connecting?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an HP laptop and out of the blue, it will just not connect to the internet wirelessly. It will say connected but no internet access. This happens and random times, at least once a week, and for exactly 24 hours between 1 a.m. one day to 1 a.m. the next day. I can connect via ethernet cable just fine. My phone and TV can connect wirelessly, but not my internet.I have tried resetting my router/modem multiple times when this has happened to no avail. I have factory restored my computer. I have deleted my driver and reinstalled it. Literally the only thing that has worked thus far is connecting to an ethernet cable. I called my ISP and they said my router is fine and nothing is wrong with it.Before you ask, NO, I don't have any monitoring software or any software that prevents the use of internet after a certain time. Keep in mind that my computer is totally factory resetored, totally clean, nothing on it but what it came with.

os: windows 7 64bit
yadayadayada...
anyway, after charging it up and turning it on, i started to install programmes and other bits and bobs. e.g ituens, flash player. just the usual essentials. i used the laptop to watch videos on Internet, genenral browing such as facebook, so in short, the internet was working fine. just before i went to bed that night i installed avg security (free version) and ran a full scan. when the scan finished, i put the laptop into hibernate, and went to sleep! happy in the knowledge my new gizmo was running smoothly!
just before i woke up i heard the laptop turn off as it had run out of charge. so i plugged it in and charged it up, then turned it on. this is where the problem starts...i connected via wifi however the logo at the bottom right of the screen showed the signal strength meter on empty, with a yellow star covering it. i clicked the icon, and it said, 'not connected, connections are available' and below shows im connected with 5/5 signal strength, but on 'limited access'.
1) there might be a problem with the driver for the local area connection adapter
2)there might be a problem with the driver for the wireless network connection adapter
there are 28 updates, but im unable to update them as i have no internet connection. i also cant connect via the ethernet cable.i cant roll back the drivers as there are no previously installed ones, and i cant update them as i am already up to date.my other laptop (acer aspire 5630 running on vista) works perfectly fine using wifi and the ethernet cable, so i honestly dont know whats wrong. after reading things on my acer about ways to fix the problem i came to the decision to restore the laptop to the time of my first installation which was adobe flash player (which i installed the day before.) i was unable to do a full factory reset as the only options available are to either restore to a backup, or re-install windows (which requires a disc, which i dont have). i also didnt configure a backup as i had only had the laptop a day!
I have a Toshiba with Windows 7 and I was able to connect to my internet wirelessly and then I went through my computer deleting many things and now i can't connect to my router without an ethernet cable.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've got two computers in my room: a Toshiba laptop and a desktop computer (both running Windows 7) I built a few months ago. The laptop gets great wifi reception, 4/5 bars, while the desktop struggles to get one bar. I want to connect the laptop to the PC via Ethernet and use the laptop's Internet connection. I'm having troubles doing this.
Here's what I've done thus far:Disabled the desktops wifi. Enabled "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection" on the laptop's Ethernet card. Plugged in the cable.
This is where I hit the brick wall. On both computers, it comes up as "unidentified network". I try creating a homegroup on the desktop, but I encounter an error "Windows could not set the network settings" and "You can try to change this setting later in the Network and Sharing Center." I look in the Network and Sharing Center, and it says "Homegroup: Joined" as if no error occurred at all. So I try to join the homegroup on the laptop. It says "Larry from LARRY-PC has created a homegroup" so it recognizes it, but then it says "Windows could not setup a homegroup on this computer" when I try to put in the password.
I start the HomeGroup Troubleshooter, and it troubleshoots network problems. After that, it says "Local Area Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration: Fixed" So then I try joining it again, and get the same issue. I go through the HomeGroup Troubleshooter again, and I click "the problem is not fixed" and get a list of problems I don't have.
What can I do?
I have been having problems with my new computer running Win7 Ultimate and have had to do an upgrade install. Now IE8 and Incredimail are unable to connect to the internet although Norton, Windows, System Mechanic, etc.,can all download updates

I'm using a Dell Insprion 1545 and Win7 32-bit. I never had this issue before, jut popped up when I tried using ICS on a different laptop, an IBM thinkpad T42 also using Win7 and connected to the same network via wifi. Again I can connect to the internet just fine on all my laptops, but 192.168.1.1 (for my netgear router) returns "unable to connect" page!!! have verified (via ipconfig) that my gateway ip is 192.168.1.1. I have valid IPs on all the laptops, but cannot connect to router setup page.

That work fine for a bit, until I updated the firmware, Since then the PS can't seem to obtain an IP address and after setting a static IP it gives me a DNS error. On the flip side, my LAN is giving me a no internet access problem(ipv4) and also an unidentified network
I've changed the cable, released and renewed and reset the ipconfig and also flush DNS. I'm having the same problem with my laptop. Both were able to share the connection with the PS3 before.

So I only have 1 cat6 line into my computer area. I downloaded AVG, Adaware SE and Spybot Search and Destroy on another computer. I put these files on a cd.
