Jul 15, 2012I have an HP laptop and out of the blue, it will just not connect to the internet wirelessly. It will say connected but no internet access. This happens and random times, at least once a week, and for exactly 24 hours between 1 a.m. one day to 1 a.m. the next day. I can connect via ethernet cable just fine. My phone and TV can connect wirelessly, but not my internet.I have tried resetting my router/modem multiple times when this has happened to no avail. I have factory restored my computer. I have deleted my driver and reinstalled it. Literally the only thing that has worked thus far is connecting to an ethernet cable. I called my ISP and they said my router is fine and nothing is wrong with it.Before you ask, NO, I don't have any monitoring software or any software that prevents the use of internet after a certain time. Keep in mind that my computer is totally factory resetored, totally clean, nothing on it but what it came with.

I wasn't able to make it work under Vista, but I was hoping Windows 7 would have some changes under the hood to make it possible. (I have the Workgroup set up and the computers connected but when I try to connect from either direction I just get the message that the username/password combo is wrong.)
P.S. I'm using 64-bit Home Premium on an hp dv3t and a Mac Pro desktop if it makes any difference.

Feb 14, 2013My windows home server has decided to stop communicating with the client machines.The connector software won't connect (reinstalling makes no difference), remote desktop times out, manually shutting down (by pressing the power button) and restarting also fails to correct the problem.I can ping the server (average response time 3ms)The Home Server machine is headless and although there is a connector the only monitor I have doesn't fit the connector.I susoect that the internal battery may have gone flat and may be the servers clock is out of sync with the client machine (but even when the server is asleep its still connected to the mains).
Someone has said that I can connect a laptop to the sever via an ethernet cable but the only instructions I can find say that I have to set the IP address on both machines to be the same - Is this correct or is there another way of connecting?

Jul 26, 2009Just be careful if you want to use X-64 version of Windows 7 and are connected via a WIRED LAN connection.
A lot of laptops use the VIA VELOCITY gigabit ethernet adapters. These are mainly 32 bit and WON'T WORK on x-64 (including x-64 VISTA)
VIA Velocity Gigabit Ethernet Controllers - VIA Technologies, Inc.
Wireless usually works and you can use a PCI express adapter or a usb==>lan adapter in these cases.
If you have a Networking card similar to those listed in the Via velocity link then don't even THINK about trying to find 64 bit drivers for these.

My ethernet card doesn't show up in device manager, but the wireless card does.
I went to Toshiba.com and downloaded the appropriate drivers for Windows 7 and my model of computer and installed them, but the ethernet card still doesn't show up in device manager and I'm limited to wireless connections.

Oct 22, 2010I am using a Dell Studio 1557 model. I downloaded the Windows Live Essentials update yesterday and it prompted me to restart my laptop. I meant to click "Postpone" but I clicked "Restart" accidentally. This was in the middle of while I was running Firefox and running Winamp (as far as I can remember).So when the computer was back on I noticed I totally lost the internet connection. Even though the CAT5 cable is connected, the laptop does not recognize it at all. It simply says "Not Connected". And just today I realized that whenever the Ethernet cable is connected to the computer the computer periodically(every other second or so)makes a faint buzzing noise. This is something I had not noticed before. I replaced the cable with a new one and the same thing still happens.I think the modem is working fine since my roommate can access the internet. On the modem where the lights should be on for my connection, it is periodically blinking.

Nov 16, 2012Recently, I upgraded the houses' internet to fiber (or so its called in Chinese, living abroad in Shanghai BTW)and the within the first day of upgrading, I've seen a tremendous increase in internet speeds. However, within a day, a new problem also came up.Whenever I plug the ethernet cable into its port at the back of my PC, all the open programs suddenly stop responding, and then my PC freezes. I've tried booting up without the ethernet cable plugged in, and everything works perfectly. Yet the second I plug in the ethernet, everything stops working. The conditions are as follows: -I am unable to CTRL - ALT - DELETE to bring up task manager.- The mouse cursor is still moveable, but nothing can be clicked or selected-The cursor turns into the spinning loading circle, but never finishes whatever it's trying to do.I am forced to manually power down (hold the power button or unplug) the PC.However, rebooting in Safe Mode with Networking yields no problems. The internet connects just fine, and there is no freezing/lagging going on at all. I'm currently posting this from Safe mode w/ Networking. The conditions are pretty much the same when I plug in the ethernet cable to my Macbook. Chrome, or whatever I'm using simply stops responding, and I get the spinning rainbow pinwheel of doom. Forced to manually power off. This has also occurred to a friends' Macbook when he plugged in the Ethernet in an adjacent room.

After several reinstallations of Windows 7 and Sony drivers, however, I have identified the pattern. When the laptop is on AC power, connectivity is not a problem. When I'm on battery power, however, the network adapters cease to work and actually completely disappear from Device Manager. The is true even when the battery is fully charged and everything else works normally.I have already tried going into all the power management settings for the laptop itself and for the network adapters and made sure that they are not being shut down when the laptop is running on battery power, and yet the problem persists.

Dec 2, 2012I have a HP G62-371DX Notebook that I have been using to access the internet. Lately I have been experiencing random disconnects that will last from maybe 30 seconds to 2 minutes. They will happen maybe every hour or two and are becoming really annoying. At first I was using the laptops wifi abilities to connect to my router. So when these disconnects began to happen I tried plugging in an Ethernet cable into the router and still experience the same disconnects. The only other devices in the house that experience this is the xbox 360 which is connected with an ethernet cable aswell. The router that I had was an old netgear router, but in the past week we got a new router which is a SMCD3GNV. I have only had it working today and I had the problem maybe 3-4 times within the first 12 hours (with both the wifi and ethernet connection). I have tried updating the firmware and resetting the router and modem.

Feb 18, 2012I have a Zoostorm 3.0021 laptop Notebook Computer MODEL: W76TH and I am trying to connect it via VGA to red/green/blue inputs on my Toshiba TV but I can't get my laptop screen to go on TV screen no matter what I do. I have adjusted the screen resolution and I have gone in to Display Panel and chose duplicate screen, but it just doesn't work. On my TV screen it just says 'No signal'.
i am so depressed with this now as I have wasted money on 3 cables now and it seems none work (mind you the first 2 were completely wrong cables)...but I really thought this was the one to work.
