I have recently migrated to window7 from XP via clean install. Touch wood I was up and running in less than 40 mins. I am still finding my way in the world of Windows 7. I need to copy my outlook files (pst) to new installed MS office on Windows 7. Despite with admin privileges and ownership I cannot access outlook folder on Windows 7 to copy the files.

I get the message: (every time I try and open a folder on my c/drive - Can't access Windows Explorer folder on the taskbar and any other folder or file by double clicking it. I can open them by right clicking, then open)
"this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a progra or, if one is already installed, create an assocation in the Default Programs control Panel".
I can open applications. But, I can not open the folder for them lets say in c:/program files -- the only way to open them is by rightclicking, then open. If I double click, I get the above error message. (same issue with "my documents", "My pictures", etc).
Included with the above problems: I now, can not access User Accounts. When I go into Control Panel, click User Accounts.. I can not manage existing ones, nor can I "Add or remove user accounts". I click the link and nothing happens.
I have someething built into the computer called "Dell DataSafe Backup". Its a recovery partition/part of the HDD that saves all my files for a recovery. However, I can NOT access it. I click the "Dell DataSafe" in my taskbar and nothing happens..
i have my (main) desktop hooked up with mapped folders which my two other computers (laptop wireless and wired and desktop wired) can access and do what i intended them to with sharing restrictions, etc.However, my 2nd laptop that after a struggle connecting it to the homegroup will not allow access to any mapper folders keeps popping up with a login screen for THAT laptop, and my others will not connect to it properly.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have windows 7 pro version installed on my desktop, 500 GB seagate 7200 rpm HDD, intel i5 4 GB RAM. This is not required, but I am posting the hardware details. My query is that previously I used to be able to access the hidden files on my C drive, now I am not able to access them. I need to access the data files of microsoft outlook ( I have microsoft outlook 2010) installed, so that I could run synch pst for outlook. I have long back put a check mark in the folder options to allow me to see the hidden system files, but yet i am not able to access the. My user account is an administrative account. However these files are accessible by goodsync software which synchronises these files to another drive on the same HDD. I wonder if goodsync have locked these folders. I don't think so because I was able to access them previously. I also created the default administrative account in windows if that works, and logging in under that account also did not help.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIt's probably my fault since most things are. Yesterday I had trouble sending email. I looked in the add-ins and saw the COM addin for Microsoft Hotmail connector. Well, I couldn't find where to delete it and so I went to c:\Progra~2\common~1\system\msmapi\msncon32.dll and deleted that. I did a bad thing, didn't I? This morning my Personal Folder in Outlook Contacts, is gone.
How can I get it back?
I did a system restore but the Personal Folder in Contacts Outlook 2007 is not there. The add-in is.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy primary user profile is corrupted and I am going to have to reinstall Windows 7. Because I cannot access my old user profile, I cannot start Outlook 2010 and access my email files. However, I have located the Outlook.pst files and have saved copies of them. What I am wondering is, once I have Outlook 2010 installed on the fresh OS install, how can I restore my email and email settings? I suspect that it is far too much to expect that I can just copy the pst files to the proper location. However, without being able to start Outlook, I can't follow the recommended procedures for backing up the mail data.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a user who tells me she deleted her Junk Mail folder from Outlook 2007. She has two e-mail profiles and claims it is missing from both. I won't have access to the computer for a day or so, but I wanted to find a solution beforehand.
I assumed it would be as simple as going to Deleted Items and restoring the folder...but from what I've been reading, that isn't the case, and she shouldn't have been able to delete the folder in the first place.
I have installed the operating system again, thinking that I would have kept all the applications installed, but I now have only the Windows.old folder
My question is: how can I get the calendar I used to have in Outlook 2010 and import it into Outlook 2010 I have installed now?
My old pc finally died. i had everything backed up on line. I bought a new computer with windows 7(which i hate already!) and now i have Windows live mail. I'm trying to import Outllook express in and i keep getting this access denyed message! I don't know what to do. Is there anything i can do that wouldn't be greek to understand. I have used SCANPST.EXE on previous machines so am familiar with it. The problem is that the .pst files are stored, as it is the default location, within "/Users/Uername/Local Settings". This directory gives me the message "Access is Denied". I am logged in as adminstrator but am unable to see a way round this.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've discovered how to increase the font size used for desktop icons, titlebars, menus etc via the advanced display preferences under Win7, but Outlook still uses a teensy font to render the names of my folders in the folders & favourites panels.
Does anyone know how to increase the fonts size there other than the Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Display option? I don't want to increase the icon size and other font sizes, nor do I want to use the Set custom text size (DPI) tweak.
I am running Windows 7 (Home Premium 64b) with Office 2010 (Home & Bus) on our new desktop PC. Just finished installing both without problem. Have now turned to adding email accounts to Outlook. I added 4 POP3 accounts, using the wizard. The wizard's test mails - and my own independently sent test mails - have confirmed that send/receive work fine in all 4. One of the 4 has been selected as my default account.
All 4 accounts show up in the navigation pane on the far left of the screen. The default account appears at top, with a black arrowhead to the left of its name. Under it appear the standard list of system-offered subfolders: Inbox, Drafts, Sent Items, Deleted Items, Junk Mail, Calendar, Contacts etc. etc.
The other three accounts are listed below this array. Each of them has a white arrowhead to the left of its name. None of these accounts has any system-offered subfolders (Inbox, Sent Items, Deleted Items etc) listed under it.
Question -
How do I get Inbox, Sent Items, Deleted Items and the other system-offered subfolders to appear under these non-default accounts in the Navigation Pane? For example, I know (from viewing the same accounts independently on my laptop) that these non-default accounts are receiving mail; however, I cannot view any of this mail because the Inboxes of these accounts are not accessible from the Navigation Pane. I would like all 3 non-default accounts to at least show Inbox, and - if possible - one of them to also show a fuller menu including Drafts, Sent Items, Deleted Items, Junk Mail etc.
I have looked everywhere in Outlook there is, but can't seem to find the path to the fix (or - if I have found it - I guess I am not recognizing it).
When I'm at work outlook 2010 will send e-mails without any problems. When I go home after work and try to send an e-mail, they go straight to the outbox folder. They won't send until I'm back at work the following day.

Obviously, we all know that upgrading Windows won't change font sizes that are coded into independent programs, so I'm thinking that maybe his old computer was running at a lower resolution. Anywho, my dad's friend asked my dad to ask me this question, and since I don't use Office 2007 anymore, I need to ask you: is there a way to change the size of the folder icons and labels in the left pane of Outlook 2007, without changing the size of anything else?

From network, I can see all other computers(Xps and Window 7s). I can access other computer's sharing folders too. But when I try to access the server's own sharing folder, it gives me this error message:

Since installing Windows 7 Pro I've had odd issues with the default Downloads folder. Long story, but I've had three or four different Downloads folders - under the user profile, on the desktop, in the root folder...
The one I'd been using was located at C:usersCarsonDownloads. To test something (the behavior of Firefox) I deleted that folder. I ran Firefox and downloaded something and it re-created the folder in the same location.
But... Now I can't access the folder. When I access the folder properties and the owner, it tells me 'Unable to display current owner'. I can't delete it, can't change permissions. How can I get control of the folder again?
(Yes, I know I can download into any folder I like. Many applications, such as browsers, use the default downloads folder location, so it's a lot simpler to just use it and not define another.)

I want to share this folder with another user on my computer. Can't do it.
Simply altering the folder's permissions doesn't work. If I change permissions so that the folder in question does not inherit any permissions from parent folders, and instead allow my user read-only access to the folder...access denied.
Alright then, I tried to share the folder with my user. Although sharing usually means sharing with other computers on a network, it also applies to other users on the same machine. But the user can't access the shared folder...access denied.
I could move the folder in question to the Public user, but then everyone can see it. Holy cow...what does it take to share a folder with another user on the same computer?
I have 7 on both my laptop and tower PC, I share my entire D drive from my tower over the network (homegroup)... i like to keep a mirrored copy of the drive, so I can copy everything from the D drive to the laptop.Absolutely everything copied EXCEPT one folder. I have no idea why this folder will not copy... windows just says "you do not have permission to access"I've done this plenty of times before, never changed the attributes of the folder or anything. I recently formatted both of the systems so everything is nice and clean, no system problems or anything.
I tried moving the folder to another location on the D drive but it's still says I do not have permission... I try just sharing that particular folder, full control, but it sill says no permission.However, I've copied a few of the sub-folders to another location, and I CAN access them. So it must have something to do just with that folder

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have just reinstalled my pc to a dual boot system which has 3 separate hdds. Window xp on one drive windows 7 ultimate on one drive and the other is a slave for backups. On the win7 install I ended up with a folder called "program files" and a folder called "program files (x86)". Since everything was being installed into the "x86" folder, Idecided to move the other one to see if it was needed. When I discovered it was needed and certain programs wouldn't work I put it back. However for some reason I didn't just put it back I copied and pasted it back. so now i have 3 "program files" folders! I now want to delete the duplicate but no matter what I do it won't go, access is denied! I have renamed it and moved it so it is now jus sitting on my win7 desktop, staring at me!
Methods I have tried are:
Reset all permissions/attributes
Boot into xp and delete from there.
Boot from a live xp disc.
Can't move folder onto another drive.
Run as administrator then get message saying "permission from trusted installer needed"
Tried the rd/s/q command in win7, xp and at boot up.
Safe mode.
And have tried various programs, killbox etc.
