Can Download Windows 7 With SP1 And Use Product Key That Came With Computer
Sep 8, 2012
I'm going to be installing a fresh copy of windows on a computer. My question is can I download Windows 7 with SP1 and use the product key that came with the computer which originally just had Windows 7 without SP1. I'm not sure if SP1 will have some effect on it.

I downloaded from Digital River yesterday with the student discount, and had the same problem as everyone else "unboxing" the download. I used the fix that's been circling round the forums and have got it installed and working. The only thing I'm missing is a product key. Wasn't Digital River supposed to give me one in my confirmation email?
I've received nothing of the sort, and would really like to activate this product I've purchased. I have product keys from previous versions of Windows that I've bought, but the machine I installed Windows 7 on was using Linux as its main operating system. Any thoughts?

So, I've recently been getting this "The Windows 7 Home premium product key is invalid for activation" I wasn't getting this the first two weeks after I re-installed my Windows 7 home premium, so I assumed everything was fine. Then, I started to get this... I don't see why the key would be invalid, it's the key that's on the bottom of my laptop, and yes before anyone asks, my windows os before was windows 7 home premium 64 bit, like the one I have installed now.

Are Windows 7 Product Keys tied to bit type as well as the version (Home Premium, Professional, etc)?
If one buys, say, Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, but decided to fall back to Professinoal 32-bit, does the Product Key work?
I have only used 32-bit XP and Vista, but am looking at switching to 64-bit with Windows 7 (new PC purchase) and I wasn't sure if the Product Keys are tied to the bit type you are using. Obviously, they are tied to the version (Home Premium, Professional, etc).
I've had the impression with the Windows 7 Beta/RC that a Windows 7 Ultimate Product Key, for example, will work on the 32 or 64-bit version, but wasn't sure.

My copy of windows 7 has become messed up. Manually deleted a perental control software (son outgrew it) and messed up windows. I have run the system backup onto a CD and have backed up all files and data on an external HD. I've been told I need to reformat the C: partition and then do a restore. How do I reinstall windows 7 using the product key listed on the computer. No disks came with the computer. Win 7 was preinstalled by manufacturer.

I have my orginal O/S disk that does not have SP1 on it. Can I use another O/S W7Pro x64 disk with SP1 to perform the repair operation. Then will it require me to enter the new product key or can I keep the same orginal product key? Does the program read the product key from the disk

few years ago I made the stupid move of buying an iBuyPower PC. It was horrid, and I returned it but kept the Windows 7 CD on accident. A few weeks ago I completed my first build. But didn't have enough by the end of it to afford windows so I figured I'd just use that disc and see if I can re-activate it by phone or something.I've since installed it, but it will expire soon. I've since purchased a new copy from amazon. Will I have to re-install Windows? Or can I just enter the new product-id and key from the new box.Currently when I go to computer properties, there's an IBuyPower logo. Will I be able to change that? I want to rid their name from my build.

I lost my win 7 product key and need to find a trustworthy product key recovery program, I heard of the magical jellybean one but it's hard for me to take it serious, usually programs with ridiculous names have screwed me in the past. I am half-expecting it to send my product key to the dude who made the software. Anyways, what's a good software to recover my product key for win 7? It's all legit but I just lost my cd/case/key sticker.

I recently had hardware failure that resulted in myself RMA'ing my motherboard. It is my understanding that I will be receiving the same model of motherboard, but a different unit. Am I eligible to use my current Windows 7 product on my computer after I receive my replacement motherboard? Specifically I'm using Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OEM.

Ok so to start off I wanted a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium. I had everything ready and I formatted the hard drive, deleted all the partitions and started the fresh installation of Windows 7. Then I realized I didn't extract my Windows 7 product key. Now I bought this laptop from Ebay. It is a Dell XPS 15 (L502x). I tried putting in the product key that was on the little sticker on the bottom of my laptop but it said that the key was invalid. I contacted Dell and explained my situation to them and they registered me as the new laptop owner and sent me the recovery disks. Now my question is will the recovery disks work even though I don't have a product key anymore?

My question is; are Windows 7 RTM retail product keys locked to a particular installation CD, or can they be used with any retail installation CD? (As long as they haven't been used before or are associated with a different edition of course).

I recently purchased a Mac Mini but wanted to utilize Windows (specifically windows version of Microsoft Office) so I had my girlfriend pick up a Windows 7 DVD from school. My Mac Mini has 8 GB of RAM but she picked up a Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit DVD. I have already installed the OS and I have found out that only 2.16 GB of the 8 GB RAM is usable. If I were to reformat my partition and install a 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate over my current 32-bit Ultimate would I be able to utilize the same 32-bit product key? I am concerned either the 32-bit key is connected with a 32-bit version or Microsoft will not let me validate the 64-bit addition because they will think I am trying to use the product key on two different systems.
