View 11 Replies View RelatedRandomly today it started saying with a black screen after loading up that the product is not genuine in the right corner with a black screen. It would say "Windows Build 7601 not genuine" or something like that. It would however boot in safe mode and it later after showing the same screen booted to windows. I have no clue why it did this, but it is troubling. It scanned clean with Norton,Malwarebytes and Combofix. Since booting up it has worked fine. If anyone has any clue why it is doing this I would like to know. I am not sure it is a virus, as it works perfecly fine. The only think we did before it did this was a registry fix with CCleaner. I have never had any problems with CCleaner like this, so I do not think that it is the culprit. Especially considering the same computer boodted to safe mode with no problems before giving the same message when booting in normal boot. Since booting normally it shows the windows copy as genuine again showing the registry key.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have checked my DELL Latitude 6500 laptop running WinXP Pro using the Windows 7 upgrade advisor tool, and everythihng is a go. I also know that I need to do a good backup of my critical files and the pictures I want to keep.I have had many people tell me that before I make such a change in operating systems, do a backup first, because Windows 7 requires a clean startup, because there is no upgrade from XP to Win7.Is there an easy way to keep these work related files, and .jpg pictures using a simpler backup process than the software backup program called Acronis?I have also read that there is a program that will run at the same time as Windows 7, like a separate operating system called XP Mode. As I understand it, XP mode runs in a separate window on the Windows 7 desktop, much like a program, except it's a fully functional version of Windows XP. In Windows XP Mode, I think you can also access your computer's CD/DVD drive, install programs, save files, and perform other tasks as if you were using a computer running Windows XP.I am not sure Acronis can be installed on this DELL Out-of-Warranty Win XP laptop, if I am currently using it for my desktop with Win 7 Ultimate. Once the critical files and .jpg photos are saved on an external hard drive, can I bring them back onto the laptop on the same harddrive with the new operating system Win 7 files, or do I need to partition the laptop harddrive, or does it matter if I use them with Win XP Mode?
View 18 Replies View RelatedI tried to do a Repair Install following this tutorial, but the Compatibility Report says:"Windows 7 Professional cannot be upgraded to Windows 7 Professional. You can choose to install a new copy of Windows 7 Professional instead, but this is different from an upgrade, and does not keep your files, settings, and programs. You'll need to reinstall any programs using the original installation discs or files. To save your files before installing Windows, back them up to an external location such as a CD, DVD, or external hard drive. To install a new copy of Windows 7 Professional, click the Back button in the upper left-hand corner, and select "Custom (advanced)"." I have Win 7 SP1, but only a Win 7 disc without SP1.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo, I've recently been getting this "The Windows 7 Home premium product key is invalid for activation" I wasn't getting this the first two weeks after I re-installed my Windows 7 home premium, so I assumed everything was fine. Then, I started to get this... I don't see why the key would be invalid, it's the key that's on the bottom of my laptop, and yes before anyone asks, my windows os before was windows 7 home premium 64 bit, like the one I have installed now.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAre Windows 7 Product Keys tied to bit type as well as the version (Home Premium, Professional, etc)?
If one buys, say, Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, but decided to fall back to Professinoal 32-bit, does the Product Key work?
I have only used 32-bit XP and Vista, but am looking at switching to 64-bit with Windows 7 (new PC purchase) and I wasn't sure if the Product Keys are tied to the bit type you are using. Obviously, they are tied to the version (Home Premium, Professional, etc).
I've had the impression with the Windows 7 Beta/RC that a Windows 7 Ultimate Product Key, for example, will work on the 32 or 64-bit version, but wasn't sure.
My copy of windows 7 has become messed up. Manually deleted a perental control software (son outgrew it) and messed up windows. I have run the system backup onto a CD and have backed up all files and data on an external HD. I've been told I need to reformat the C: partition and then do a restore. How do I reinstall windows 7 using the product key listed on the computer. No disks came with the computer. Win 7 was preinstalled by manufacturer.
