Jul 30, 2011Facebook keep asking for a cell phone number in order to send me a message with a code so far i haven't received anything....so i can't restore my account! unbeliveable they're paranoic!

Aug 8, 2011okay so i have kind of a huge problem. well not really i'm just being a bit dramatic. lol. i have recently gotten a new laptop (hp pavillion dv7-6157cl / windows 7 home premium) and since i set it up i have had a problem signing into facebook. the only time i was able to do so is the day i got it, when my sister installed some add-on but it stopped working less than an hour later. i am able to access the web page but am unable to sign in. at first, i would put in my information to log in and i would see a message saying i had to enable cookies.. so i did that and i still get that lovely message sometimes and i go to my internet options and the cookies are enabled. -_- but what i usually get now is "you must log on to see this page" after i attempt to log in.
i know my log in information is correct because i am able to log in on my android, so that is not the problem. also, i have restored the internet settings to how it originally was and nothing. another problem that i had, which i mention just in case there is some correlation to the problem at hand, is that i was having problems logging into my gmail and Internet account. the problem was that i was checking the box for "stay signed in." so when i didn't check that box i was able to sign into both. oh and i am trying to refrain from using any other web browsers because some have told me that it is easier to get viruses and that they cause unnecessary problems that may easily be avoided.

Turns out the account has been restored to default settings with none of the old files, etc. When i go into the Users folder however, there is an additional folder entitled ''TEMP'' and the renamed folder is still there and is intact. Jul 28, 2012I'm trying to backup the pictures, music, and videos that are saved on my buddies laptop. He forgot the password for the main account and whenever I try to transfer files to an external hard drive, a screen pops up and tells me to it cannot transfer files without password. Is there anyway to get around this? EDIT: I thought maybe it would be important to add that the account that I'm using to get access to the files must not have permissions to change anything on the computer. Don't ask me how my friend figured out how to restrict himself from changing anything on the computer, but he did and this general lack of knowledge about computers, likely got in into the trouble, that now is going to require me to do a full restore.

Jan 20, 2013Windows 7 Pro 64 SP1. He has 2 accounts on his PC (administrator, and 'user'). Both have admin privileges. When he logged in this morning using his user account, the file associations for all applications appear to have been corrupted. In his user account, all programs launch with the IE download manager which gives me an option to run or save. When 'run' is selected from IR download manager, a window quickly flashes on the screen and closes. I am unable to run any application including windows explorer, regedit, cmd, etc, including system restore.
He has Symantec Endpoint which also launched in IE download manager. My friend does not recall installing anything recently. I tried booting in safe mode and logging into the user account and the behavior is exactly the same. When I log in using the admin account (in regular mode) everything seems to be fine. The system restore option is available as are all the file associations. A Symantec scan using the admin account shows nothing other than a single tracking cookie. The only thing I can think of doing is a system restore from the admin account but thought I'd post this to the group to see if there was something else I should try first.

Oct 31, 2011I am using Windows 7 Pro 64x and apparently the default user account (Owner) that I use is not working correctly. Unless I have UAC set to Never Notify, I cannot open Control Panel or UAC again. I have created a second user account as Administrator and it works correctly.
I would like to know if there is any way to fix this problem short of a clean install of Windows. If not, is it possible to move all of my settings to the user account that works correctly and delete the one that does not.

The music file I used for the account was could not be found and when I went to locate it I was told I didn't have administrator rights. I don't want to keep him off the admin account, because he plays games on here, but I don't want him watching porn on my laptop either. Is there a way to put parental settings on the guest account? Apr 14, 2011I run Windows 7 on a Sony Vaio, and never had issues.recently I had this situation where some software doesn't run properly on my main account (admin) but only in a secondary account I had created the software is installed without problems, but then it fails to run properly as an example I have a small car speed detector which has a software to download journeys. it doesn't run as it should on the main account no matter what I try. similarly i bought a Sony Bloggie and its portable software as well as the main software that came with it don't work properly, but they do on the other account, so I (annoyingly) have to switch users, and run the software there, and then go back to my main account.I suspect some anti-virus or other stuff from my main account is "blocking" things somehow. I also had a number of instances where I get alerts like "windows cannot open this file for security reasons". I have tried to change security settings, firewall settings but nothing worked.there was a general security level that required admin status to lower, yet although I obviously am admin, windows wouldn't allow me to do.
