View 6 RepliesI have a problema with windows 7 professional (64 bit, sp1), and offline files.I'm trying the functionality of offline files with a NAS network (WD my book live).Specifically, I do not want to synchronize files with certain extensions (.nef and .cr2). With gpedit.msc in Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Network -> Offline Files, I enabled "exclude files by caching", entering (in the appropriate field), *.nef; *.cr2 But the files with this extension are synchronized anyway.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have my tower pc on constant all day- to record a streaming IP Camera from my work.Initially, I saved these files into my docutments- which they would save as .avi files, and after every several days I would delete them as they would take up ALOT of space on my pc.My pc is 250GB in size, and usually it would be about 80GB full before I had the IP Camera. Just recently, I noticed all of the IP Camera avi files seemed to have disappeared from my documents if I went directly to the folder... I could still see them in documents when I was choosing a location to save the recordings.Upon right-clicking the avi files in the latter, the files would be of no size and wouldn't play.Now my computer is 210GB full in the matter of a week.

The problem she is having is she will open a word file, change it up, save it, then re-open it later and its the old file not the new one. View 3 Replies View RelatedMy offline files seems to work offline all the time, even when it shows me being online. I sync most of my business files to my laptop for working at home at night. When I edit a file from my Win 7 (pro, 64-bit) laptop, then go to edit it again, I get the version I had changed, but no one else does. This is causing huge difficulty, because my employees will start working in a sales forecast spreadsheet after I reconnect to the network and supposedly sync, but they don't get the latest version. Even doing a manual sync seems to make no difference.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a system with 32gb DDR3-2400, a 256GB SSD and a couple of spinners. I have set up 4gb of the RAM to be used as another RAMdisk using the softperfect software. This problem has been going on for some time, but has been more of a problem since I started using the RAMdisk. Not because the RAMdisk itself isn't working well, because the stuff that is stored there keeps getting reset.I have pretty much identified that when updates are installed through windows update (either from Microsoft update or from my WSUS server), the following are reset to defaults
1. Pagefile is automatically managed and stored on the C: drive and is set to 32gb
2. The TEMP and TMP environment variables are reset to the C:users default location
3. The temporary Internet Files location is reset to the default C:users... location
There may be others that I have not discovered.I have manually set my swap file to 1024/2048 on the D: drive (a spinner), on the belief that it should rarely if ever be needed with a system equipped with 32GB of RAM. I'm certainly not inclined to waste 32GB of space on my SSD for an unused object.I have placed the TMP/TEMP files, cookies and Temporary Internet files on the RAMdisk to squeeze a little extra performance out of the system. (Yes, I know, I'm not really getting much benefit).Photoshop and a few other programs also use the RAMdisk as a scratch disk, and were the main reason I set it up in the first place.This is becoming a real pain when it gets reset as I have to manually change everything again. Anyone know a way to make windows leave settings at what I set them, instead of having it continually reset the values to what it wants? I'd prefer to have it my way. I know there will be proponents of "leave things as windows wants it".
Is there a way to make SFC use the Windows 7 DVD for files to be replaced instead of the files on the hard drive?

My file and storage system is set up like this:
C: Drive - 120 GB SSD This is my Win 7 64-Bit Ultimate Boot drive. It has my most important Microsoft programs on it. Out of the 111GB available, I've used 42GB, leaving me 69GB free space. I want to keep this area open.
My next drive is a 1TB WD Caviar Black segmented into 3 partitions.
E: Drive = Program FIles This has the majority and rest of my programs. It also includes USERs Files. I've use 96GB out of 150GB. Out of that 96GB, 64GB are in USERS files.
F: Drive = Data Files. This stores all of my data except for media. I've used 91GB out of 350. I want to leave this be.
G:| Drive = Medsia FIles This stores all Media = Vids, Music, Graphics, Pictures. I've used 80 GB out of 500GB
I also have a 64GB ~ 55GB actual storage SSD drive that is partitioned but has no data on it or assigned drive letter.
Here is what I want to accomplish. i want to move my actual Program FIles to the 64GB SSD, assign it a drive letter, and keep the USERS files where they now reside on the F: dirve
My main concern is that in moving all these files around and splitting the USERS files from the Program Files that I'll mees up my Registry. Will someone please suggest some links I might read that will best help me acheive these moves.
I'm running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and having the same problem. You can easily resolve the "Hidden File" problem by right clicking on the file, select Properties, and remove the check box next to "Hidden". If you tagged all the photos in a folder, simply select all (ctrl-A) and do the same. It solved the hidden file problem for me without having to show all hidden files.The problem I'm running into that I can't fix is that even after doing this, Carbonite now recognizes these files as system files and refuses to back them up. Even if you try to manually force Carbonite to back them up, it immediately unselects the check box. Hopefully somebody knows of a solution. It's weird, because I was tagging photos just a few weeks ago, and didn't have any problems at all. I don't know if there was an update at some point that screwed this all up.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI tried doing this. Example, game files/data from my XPdocs on C: to my Windows 7 docs on D: couldnt do it, just gave me a chime, no dialogue box or anything. Also tried to move a file from my desktop to either mydocs or to program files folder, same thing. After that, even took ownership of all affected folders/files, ones being moved and destination folder. Still the same.
Question: is there some type of security setting i am missing? anyone else test this? I have moved files to mydocs before, and now i cant move anything to there, has me confused now. Nothing special about a file or folder i am trying to move, permissions ect.
Tried both cut and paste, and copy, same problem either way. No protected files/folders involved
When I create Excel douments using Excel 2003 on my Windows 7 system it saves them as 'OOBE.' documents.If I try to open them from 'My Computer' it says it cannot open them (the Open With option does not suggest Excel). However if I open Excel first then go File Open, then document is fine.When attaching these files to emails they don't look like Excel files then either.

It was removed except for one file in Program files x86/microsoftgames/dungeonSiege2. I tried manually deleting it but get this "the action can't be completed because the folder or file in it is open in another program. Close folder or file or retry" There is nothing open. I clicked properties of the file and security and clicked administrator and get the same message. Never had this problem removing remnants of programs in xp.

View 2 Replies View RelatedTrying to open any of the OO applications results in an image of a circle spinning appears momentarily (0 to 1 second) but the program does not start. This happens when clicking on a link on the desktop or Start Menu as well as double-clicking an application file the Program Files (x86) directory or double-clicking on associated files (.doc, .odt, ...). I have uninstalled and reinstalled versions 3.3 and 3.4 several times. The suite's quickstarter.exe is in my Startup folder and appears in MSCONFIG as a Startup item but is not running in Task Manager upon start up.When I boot into Safe Mode, the OO applications run perfectly. I have run MS Security Essentials scans in regular and Safe Mode as well as Comodo Anti-Virus scans.Googling and posting on an OpenOffice forum indicated several things to try, none of which panned out:I installed Java 6.33 32-bit version.DocuShare is not running or installed.I turned off Skype.I turned off all firewalls and anti-malware programs and services.I stopped and disabled non-critical services (only 26 processes were running in Task Manager).I have uninstalled OO, rebooted, reinstalled, rebooted after each of these attempts with the same results.
When I only had 26 processes running, opening an OO program caused the dllhost process to appear in Task Manager for several seconds. I have not noticed that when all services are activated. In fact, I specifically noticed it not happening.
I'm trying to move all our data into one location. A lot of the files we have are duplicates and some have been modified. Is there a way that I can tell windows to copy all the files that are not already in the destination and if it encounters the same file to create a copy(2) if the file is newer and if not newer then not copy. I want to be able to keep the original file also and make a second copy of the newer. Right now when I copy I have to look to see if the file is newer or not and tell it to rewrite, do nothing, or keep both and create second file. Any way to automate this? I have a lot of files to manage and I'm not the one who created them so I need to have bot copies.

It works well and I'm very pleased.I've just tried importing my Outlook.pst file from my old computer (ran Win XP Pro) which died (partition got partially deleted). I've managed to access it using "Find and Mount" which will display the partition as a drive in My Computer and I can access all files bar those in "Documents & Settings" which it comes up saying I don't have permisson to access.I've tried to take ownership of these files, however I get an error saying "The media is write protected". Now when I try to install Windows 7 onto my computer, the DVD boots and the installation begins. The installation will complete the "Copying windows files" task in seconds, but sticks at 0% on "Expanding files" for about 30 seconds. I will then receive an error that reads "Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the application. Error code: 0x80070017".I researched this error but couldn't find a resolution. One suggestion was to download my hard drive's drivers onto a pen drive and load them in the installation, but t also tried installing Windows Vista and received the same problem.The error in this case has nothing to do with the copy. I have used many different Windows 7 builds, many different DVDs, burning at different speeds, all producing the same problemOnly when using the Windows 7 RC disc I was asked to "load drivers" as a requirement.Other builds didn't require me to load drivers.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI was using my desktop like normal then an error came up saying that there was a hdd failure, and that i needed to scan for errors. all my files disappeared and only this error would come up. There would be hundreds of the same msg spamed on my screen. I scaned my hdd for errors using my Bios/Advanced options and no errors came up. I decided to take out the hdd and put it into my External Hdd bay to hook up to my laptop to extract the data off it.When i hooked it up to my laptop it showed up empty. I went into folder options and clicked on show hidden files and folders. Everything came up but it was grey/transparent. I then copied the files to another hdd for backup.
Then i formatted the hdd and put on a fresh new OS. Id like to mention i have a second internal drive that i use for backups but it wasnt backed up recently when this issue happen so i had to take out the main drive and use it as an external to back up onto another external drive.so then when i click on my second internal drive after the reinstall of the new OS it shows empty i have to go in and show hidden files and folders.. now they show again transparent. also i plug in my external to get the recent back up and all those files are still transparent when i move them to my desktop that is freshly OS installed they are still grey/transparent and i have to keep the show hidden files and folders to view them.. so its all my music, pics, documents etc they are all greyed out..i tried to copy my backup IE favs into my new IE browser and they wont show up because they are hiden it shows it copied to the favs folder but in ie i cannot view them if that makes any sense.
I have a program that uses it's own library. The path to this library can't be changed, and it's inside the "Program Files" folder. And the software itself has to be installed inside "Program Files" too, otherwise it won't work correctly (it's a new release and still a bit buggy).Now, when I add something to this library, it's supposed to be present in the library folder. BUT Win 7 doesn't show me any files that have been created by programs inside the "Program Files" folder. The folder where the new library is supposed to be is empty. But the library is there inside the program, so it has to be somewhere.Now, how am I supposed to backup those files if I can't access them?
