View 5 Replies View RelatedI am attempting to run a complete system recovery (factory restore) on Windows 7 using a recovery partition. Last time I ran the recovery, I ended up having a lot of problems with system programs not being installed correctly, and with the system administrator account. Now, when I reboot and use the F8 option to bring up the boot options, I do not have an option to "Repair your computer" as I had before. I also tried rstrui.exe through the command prompt, but it only tells me that "No restore points have been created on your computer's drive. To create a restore point open System Protection."
I also checked my drives through DISKPART to make sure there were no problems with the recovery partition, but it is showing up normal. On the Windows knowledge database it said that if the system recovery options are missing, then the system is not installed with the options or they were disabled by the network administrator. Given that I had no problems accessing these the last time I ran the recovery, I'm assuming something happened with the account. I am set up with 1 user in the system, which is the administrator.
1) Re-enabling the options so that I can access the "Repair your computer" options on the boot menu.
2) Run the system recovery options without having to get into the bootup menu.
First off, some of my system specs;
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
AMD Phenom II X4 955 3.2 Ghz
Ati Radeon HD 6570 1GB Dedicated video memory
8GB DDR3 RAM
yesterday I bought Fallout: New Vegas off of Steam. It doesn't run for some reason, and so one of my attempted solutions was to run it straight from the .exe file. So I did, and when I do that, I get "C:Windowssystem32XINPUT1_3.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support." I know that xinput1_3.dll is a DirectX file, and I had already downloaded and updated my DirectX several times as an attempt to fix this problem, so I located the file in my system32 folder, moved it, and downloaded DirectX again (I did it using an older version, a newer version, and the redistributible version that comes with the game), and it replaces the file each time, but I still get the error message. So I figured that this is the reason the game won't run, and am looking for a way to fix this error. I have also already updated my video drivers, and my Windows is up to date.

View 6 Replies View Relatedyou know when you have 2 folders with the same name and the computer asks you if you want to replace it, keep both and such ? well, I did that to a very important folder that was on my external hard drive, now I don't know what to do is there any way to recover the folder to its version before I replaced it?ps: information - I replaced using a mac OSX Lion, but I can use any softwares for windows since the folder is on my hard drive not on my laptop - also, they were photos, which I edited with photoshop, so maybe there's something I can do in photoshop, maybe? - it wasn't deleted, it was replaced!

View 3 Replies View RelatedHad a power failure during a recovery of an Acronis backup on my C: drive. It seems it happened while Acronis just started loading the backup files? When I restarted the Samsung Laptop local drive C: did not appear in Explorer. Only drive D: and my DVD drive E: appeared (C an D are partitions on the same hard disk). The recovery software was on a hidden partition but when trying to use the Samsung Recovery facility it say Drive C: not found.After trying out suggestions found on the internet I only managed to screw everything up resulting in also loosing the D: drive containing my Acronis backup. The laptop did not start at all. I at last managed to get it going after installing Windows 7 again and I then sit with only C System Disk, D System reserved and E: DVD drive at that point.Foolishly I shrinked the system disk C and created a data disk. That disk is now Data Disk F. and not D as original.The Acronis backup containing all my files and data was on the original Data Disk D:I have used various free software to try and find that specific file. But they all search by drive and the missing file must be somewhere on the disk either as lost or wrong drive letter or something.

Can anyone tell me if he purchases a copy of Windows 7 is it possible to install the complete version to see if it recovers. It currently has Windows Vista -64 and the software license sticker is on the case. Will an upgrade copy work or would he need a full version?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just bought a NIB (New In Box) Windows 7 computer and I have run into a problem I have not seen and don't know what to do with. I keep my computer password protected due to financial and other sensitive information I have on it. Whenever I am away for an extended period I lock my computer using the Windows Key - L combination.If I am only away for short periods of time everything is fine but if I am away from my computer for an extended period and I try to wake my computer up it won't come out of hibernation and I have to use the power switch to shut it down and restart it and of course I get the "Windows did not shut down normally" screen.I like to leave my computer on for convenience and to get Windows updates but I now hesitate to do this if I am going to have to deal with it not coming out of hibernation every time I am away for a long period. I suppose I could always leave it on but this uses a lot of power as well as wear and tear on moving parts.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI started up my computer around an hour ago and found the following message; "The file system32/hal.dll is missing or corrupt.re-install the file." So, at a loss as I'm not a Tech-person in any yway, I turned to the internet and found, after several XP posts, some to do with Windows 7. I'm on 64-bit, and have tried inserting my installation disk as well as the system repair.I've looked at this, but seeing as I'm Windows 7 & not XP I can't see why it would work; Error Message: Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt I'm following another Microsoft guide that asked to me run a command in a command prompt, Bootrec.exe which in turn gave me 4 options, only I'm not sure which option to choose.
