View 0 RepliesI have a one year old Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E420s. I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with an Intel i5-2410M @2.30GHz. I bought the Ultimate OS retail as an upgrade to the Windows 7 Home edition. Recently, when I put my computer in hibernate or standby, when I turn the computer back on, it causes the BSOD and the computer restarts.I have attached the dump files. Here is the error message I get when the computer finally starts:Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown
Problem signature:

1) Since about 2-3 days ago, my laptop wouldn't stay connected to wireless once I put the laptop on standby. I have to connect to it each time I open my laptop. This has never happened before so I feel like something went wrong.
2) My wireless won't connect to any other connections other than my home. I went on a ski trip recently, and while my wireless worked on my iphone and ipad, my laptop wasn't able to connect to it. I feel like this laptop has a lot of weird configuration problems. It also won't connect to my home network unless SSID is disabled. So this brings up the question, will my laptop never be able to connect to any network that has SSID enabled? This is really weird and frustrating because my laptop used to be able to connect to my home router fine while its SSID was enabled. I don't get what happened to it. This is troublesome because that means that I will never be able to use wireless anywhere else other than my home.
my settings regarding wireless? Does anything seem abnormal?

Windows 7 XPS laptop. Connects to the wireless network just fine. However, when I suspend or put the laptop into hibernation it never reconnects. I take the lpatop out of hibernation and it shows a red x through the network icon. I have to try and manually reconnect, and then I just get the spinning blue thing over the network connections without it ever reconnecting. I restart .no problem. I have a bunch of otehr PC's and devices on my home network. I have tried 2 different routers, same problem. None of the other laptops on the network have this problem. This laptop did not have this problem last month. Nothing changed. How do I start de-bugging this
View 7 Replies View RelatedWindows 7 home premium, 64-bit HP Envy 3D laptop with 8GB memory, no custom hardware
I have configured a backup job which wakes up the laptop at midnight, takes a backup and puts laptop into standby again. All this happens with the laptop lid closed. The power scheme is configured to put laptop into standby when lid is closed.
The resume from standby, backup and suspend after backup is controlled by Windows Home Server (2003) console which is installed on the laptop. I had purchased the HP laptop in October of last year and this job used to work just fine. Sometime in March of this year, the backup stopped working.
After checking the logs and physically observing the laptop at midnight, I found that the laptop resumes from standby at the scheduled time but immediately goes into standby if the lid is closed. The backup fails. Windows event logs indicate that laptop lid close action is putting system into standby.
If the lid is open, then the laptop resumes from standby, stays awake, backup proceeds and laptop goes into standby again.
Here are my problems:
a) Why did the backup work for several months and then stopped working?
b) I have other laptops in the house running Windows 7 home premium on variety of hardware (all HP) and they do not have any issue. Even with the lid closed, they resume from standby, do a backup and go into standby again. The power scheme on all these laptops is set to put laptop into standby when lid is closed. I have verified from physically observing the laptops during backup time.
I have checked all the usual suspects like BIOS updates, driver updates, run sfc, completely deleted the Windows Home Server console from laptop and re-installed after deleting all past backups. Is there some setting that I have overlooked?

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I put my computer in hibernation, sometimes when I wake it, it hangs at the user select screen, or it just shows a black screen. Sometimes I can reset the computer after it has hanged, and try again resuming from hibernation, and many times it will work after a couple of tries. Other times after resetting I won't get the prompt to try again with resuming (the other option is to delete hibernation data and reboot the system) but I will get the usual screen that says that Windows was not shut down correctly (with all the options for safe mode, etc). If I cannot resume and I get the screen with safe mode and all the other crap, I finally log in I get a notice that there was a critical error, in the details I see BlueScreen and other data, but I actually never get a blue screen. In the dump folder, there are no dmp files related to the hibernation hanging.
Anyway, when it happens, I see several Event 18 WHEA-Logger in the event viewer, about 6 of them every time. What's weird though, is that I literally have NO problems with this computer other than this. The only times it hangs is when I resume it from hibernation. I can play games or run stress tests with or without overclock and the system is 100% stable. But there is some problem that prevents it from resuming from hibernation correctly, so every time I use it is basically a gamble because it has like 50% chance of working.I tried EVERY SINGLE solution I found with google related to hibernation problems, and it's still there. I even formatted and reinstalled Windows from scratch, and it's still there. I'm positive I updated every single driver for every hardware I have and nope, no solution.I know the WHEA error is related to the hardware but like I said, everything works PERFECTLY once the system starts up properly, or when it resumes from hibernation properly. This is how i got windows 7 to install when all else failed.
this IS NOT for dual boot, you WILL LOSE all data currently on your drive,
Back up, or combine with a dual boot tutorial if you want.
(Also great if you cant boot from a thumb drive, or dont have a dvd drive)
download windows 7 iso
download and install 7-zip if you dont have it
download and burn Gparted Live CD
download and burn hirens boot cd (everyone should have this, even if you choose not to follow this tutorial)
Boot from Gparted Live CD, Default Settings (first option)
select 'dont touch keymap'
enter for language, enter for mode
Resize current partition so you have around 2 GB unallocated space
create new partition on 2 GB of unallocated space (change 'free space following' to 0, create as Primary, File system NTFS)
apply, Quit, Exit, reboot into windows
windows will boot, then tell you it has finished installing new devices. go ahead and reboot again if it asks you to
browse My Computer, you now have an additional 2 GB Local Disk.
right-click drag the windows 7 iso into this drive. select 7-zip > Extract Here.
once files are extracted, boot up Gparted once more. delete your other partition**
**if you want to just resize your old partition so you leave your old OS on the drive for backup or dual boot, feel free, but im not covering dual boot here, and im not responsible for lost data, or boot problems getting back into XP.
(leave the 2GB Partition alone)
Then Create a New Partition on the unallocated space (create as Primary, File system NTFS)
apply, Quit, Exit.
Reboot, this time into Hirens Boot CD
boot up Hirens Boot CD, open up Fdisk under partition tools, and set the 2gb drive to active.
this will allow you to boot up this drive partition as if it is the windows 7 disk, bypassing your dvd drive and eliminating missing drive errors.
reboot (you may have to press esc or something during to boot process to select the drive to boot, but both times i did this it booted right up into the windows 7 drive with no problems.
seems like a lot of steps, but it really only took about 10 min extra once you have gparted and hirens burned.
again, i only did this twice, once to figure it out, and once to write this walkthrough. it worked perfectly both times, but i cant garuntee it will work for you.
Usually I disable Windows Firewall because it's annoying to hit "allow" every time i run each of my 30-40 games for the first time. I use avast! and nothing else, since I usually don't visit "adult" sites or anything out of the ordinary. I was thinking about getting zone alarm, though.
Well I need network printing to be enabled for the rest of my family to print without having to kick me off, but for network printing to be on windows firewall must be turned on. Is there a workaround, or do I just need ANY firewall turned on, not just Windows Firewall?
way to install windows media player 11 onto windows 7? I do not like how heavy handed WMP12 is with libraries (as i went in to my registery and deleted any key referencing them) and while WMP 12 doesnt produce any errors or problems with my registery modifications. I find that i have to worm through a now disabled directory to actually get to my music.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a new Sony Vaio laptop and got on great with it until I noticed an aggravating problem.
Whenever I was typing some text, the cursor had an annoying habit of jumping all over the place, so I'd find myself typing text in the middle of a sentence I'd completed earlier.
It turns out that if you use a mouse without disabling the touchpad, the two conflict with each other, which results in this erratic cursor behaviour.
Why use a mouse you may ask. Well, I suffer with arthritis from time to time and a wireless mouse is easier to use than the touchpad.
So, if anyone has a Sony Vaio and is experiencing the same problem just go to:
Start>All Programs>Vaio Control Center>Categories Tab>Expand Keyboard & Mouse>Double-click Built-in Pointing Device>Uncheck Enable box>Apply>OK>Yes.
This disables the touchpad and stops the erratic cursor movement.
Just got this desk top commputer(used)with Windows 7 Ultimate on it and upon installing my wireless adapter found that I am not connecting to the internet. After reading quite a few help programs and troubleshooters I have run services.msc tried to turn on WLAN autoconfig and got an error:1068.Also cmd promt: sc query wzcsvc and got:The specified service does not exist as an installed service. use a wireless connection with this computer.
View 11 Replies View RelatedOk so I just got a new computer and I ordered it with a wireless adapter card. The adapter was backordered so I used an ethernet cable until it arrived. I tested the connection speeds with testinternetspeed.org (legit or not idk. results were pretty consistent.) With just LAN i got 8Mbps download. With just the wireless i got 15Mbps. For the hell of it I tried it with both in. I got 45Mbps. With such a good connection I would love to keep it like that but my question is will this setup potentially harm my new PC?

I have a Wireless Trendnet TEW-432BRP router. My wireless internet connection keeps dropping every 30 minutes. After it drops it usually reconnects by it self in like 1minute. View 7 Replies View RelatedJust found out that my neighbour can access my ISP via my wireless 802-11g connection. And I can access via his connection...Not a good situation. I have checked security settings in both my router and Windows 7 network connection. I have checked that WPA2-PSK security and AES encryption is selected and a 8 digit network security key is current. I have disabled sharing. When connecting the network does not ask for a network security key but connects instantly and functions correctly I can see but cannot connect to another neighbours connection because it asks for a network security key and I do not have it.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just bought a Windows 7 laptop (I still have my old XP laptop). I am now in Las Vegas and trying to connect to LaQuinta's wireless network from my room. My XP laptop has no problem and stay connected all day long. But my Windows 7 laptop has been having problems. The wireless connection kept getting disconnected every few minutes. I have called LaQuinta Tech Department and they couldn't figure out why either and kept telling me it's my laptop.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWell, i also have the Windows 7. I can connect with Ethernet without any problems. When i atepmt to connect using the wireless Belkin desktop card. i get this problem found by the Windows Network Diagnostics...(Wireless Network Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration) marked as 'not fixed'
So i contacted my ISP and once i told them i was running Windows 7, they no longer wanted to help me. (Frontier)
I have 3 PCs, 2 with Windows 7 and one with Vista.
1**My gaming PC(Windows 7) is connected via Ethernet and connection is fine.
2**My HP laptop (Win Vista) is connected via wireless, and is working fine.
3**My newest PC(Windows 7) was connected with Ethernet, but we cant deal with the wire hanging off the loft, so i got the Belikin wireless card. It installed fine, and sees my home wireless network, the password is correct, as well as the encryption, and security type.
But when trying to connect, i get a "Connecting to the network is tanking longer than usual" followed by a "the connection was unsuccessful"
I run the troubleshooter, and first it tells me to reset my router, which i have dine, and it doesnt help, so i go on to diagnose additional problems, and that is when i get the most important problem.....(Wireless Network Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration) marked as 'not fixed
I read a post by Esparko in this forum, with a very similar problem that was solved by SquonkSC..... Can anyone tell me what is wrong, and how i can fix this plz?
It seems that several people (myself included) are having the Win 7 disabling a wireless router issue. I've searched through this forum and see several threads. If anyone has the solution (other than disabling HomeGroups, I kind of like this feature!) can it just be made a sticky so we don't have to search for it?
View 0 Replies View RelatedJust bought a new PC, it came blank, and i have installed windows 7 64x Professional onto it, but am having some problems with the wirless connection.
I have a realtek 8185 802.11b/g wireless card. Other system specs listed in my system specs.
The issues are as follows: Most annoying: - random slow downs in the connection. just during normal use, i won't be able to load webpages, do any downloads, or loading pages will be extremely slow (1-2 minutes per page, usually with errorrs). will often spontanesouly resolve 5-10mins later, only to occurr again another 5-10 minutes later.
No errors reported in the system tray or on using the windows 7 toubleshooter.
- about 1/5 times i boot up, it cannot connect to the network, with error message in the system tray. trying to 'troubleshoot problems' cannot fix it. if i restart, usually connects straight away
- every couple of days, some sort of error occurs, where the system tray pops up with an error message. troubleshooter is then able to resolve the error.
I have updated the driver through windows update. Driver date 10/09/2009.
We have 3 other machines (all running xp - 2 old lapotps and one netbook) none of which experieince any issues. During periods of slow/nonexistant connection on the windows 7 machine, the xp machines haver perfect connection.
I have tried restarting the router many times, and it doesnt seem to do anything.
ALso, dont know if this is related, but my ethernet ports (which i do not use) - Realtek RTL8186/8111 - are reporting errors in the device manager. when i try to update the drivers, thers is an erorr that the update did not fix the issues.
My thoughts would be that perhaps there is a loose connection inside the machine itself, but i think that network adapter connects straight into the motherboard?
Also, i have two different types of RAM installed (2x 1GB, and 2x 2GG sticks), which people have mentioned may cause some issues (I have problems not being able to come out of 'sleep', and i think the RAM causes this - but this issue doesnt bother me).
I am unable to set up the wireless connection

All the computers are linked to our older hp Laser Jet 1300 PCL 6 printer. One day the notebook froze and when rebooted it had lost its connection to the printer. I have done everything I know and followed numerous "geek" instructions to reconnect. So far I have succeeded only in losing my own printer access on my old Dell Dimension 2400 desktop.
