I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, + SP1 and fully patched. 6 GB of RAM and over 1 TB of free space on the designated scratch drive. No 3rd-party modifications or hacks to the OS or GUI. Sporadically, my Windows Explorer folders lose their Address Bar. Sometimes this happens during a session, sometimes when I've rebooted the PC after previously shutting down and leaving some Windows open (but no apps running), but I've never actually see the Bar go.
What remains of the window will still be functional - I can navigate to other folders and files with the Tree pane on the left, for instance - but there'll simply be no Address Bar. (Which means no search input, refresh button or back and forward buttons.) I can toggle the Menu Bar on and off, but it doesn't bring the Address Bar back. Usually I simply end up closing that window; when I open a new one, it has an Address Bar, no worries.
It's not all Explorer windows that lose the Bar at the same time; typically, it will only be one out of maybe three or four I have open. And I haven't been able to find any pattern to when the Address Bar goes; it doesn't happen every time I use my PC, and I haven't spotted any pattern to what app(s) I might be running when it happens. I've been trying to spot a pattern, but haven't yet.
There may not be one; if I have two Explorer windows open and navigated to the same folder on the same drive, only one of the two might lose its Address Bar, so it doesn't seem to be location-specific. It's a completely legit, licensed retail copy of Windows, and I'm not running any pirate or hacked software. I have Nortons Internet Security 2011 installed and keep it maintained. And I don't seem to have any other problems - no identified misbehaviours, no error messages.
This started suddenly after I turned my desktop pc off before going away for a week. When I came home and turned it back on, it hasn't been "normal" since. When I start my computer, go to my user folder, documents etc., all appears fine. Folders/thumbnails and images within the folder appear as normal. However, if I open (for instance) my "downloads" folder, the folder icons and associated icons are initially displayed as "normal", but I see that the explorer bar (where I see C:/user/downloads, etc) is "computing items" but it never stops. A green "progress bar" SLOWLY moves across that "text window" and then it stays green. As if the pc is having trouble reading what is in the folder.Once that happens, if I back out of the folder and then go back in to it, most of the folder icons/thumbnails/pictures are no longer visible. If I navigate to other folders, it's the same thing; many (but not all) of the folder icons and the thumbnails within are not displayed. Example: in my "user file" the AppData and Tracing folders, the icon is non existant....yet my Contacts, Desktop, Favorites, Documents etc. are shown as standard windows "yellow folders" but not the thumbnails that I have associated with them. Also, the file info (if I highlight a file name) does not appear at the bottom of the explorer window, as it normally would for me.I have run my anti-virus, malwarebytes, which are showing no problems and I have also tried "indexing" but no luck. I do have an external drive that is close to full, but it is disconnected. My C drive is currently 873gb full of 1.35tb. Recovery partition is 1.63gb free of 13.2gb - which I have never "messed with", though I have previously done 2 "reset to factory settings"
I am trying to open a ftp address using windows explorer. This is for my school work. I have Windows 7. I entered the ftp address and received an error 550 system cannot find file. I tried changing files and folders settings to show hidden folders. I did everything I know how to do. I am hoping the instructor entered my info correctly to allow me access.
I have Windows 7 ultimate 64 bits around 1 year now. It always worked fine but in a few weeks now happens something strange. I not know if this is a bug or a virus. To access files on HD I use Windows Explorer. When I access a folder, it always puts that folder on a list that it names "frequent" (on that icon bottom left). Also, for some folders, I use the "pin to this list" option. This is very handy. Yesterday was the second time in a few days that all that list, including the pinned, disappeared.
My internet connection shows 'no internet access' even though my ISP shows the connection is coming into the house just fine. I usually use a router (NetGear-WNR3500U) but I right now I have the Ethernet connection plugged directly into my PC. I tried directly plugging into my laptop and the internet works just fine. So I know the problem resides in the PC.
Some troubleshooting things I have tried.
-Power cycled my modem, router and PC.
-Repinged my connection from my ISP(Comcast Xfinity)
-Used the reset option on the router and the modem
-I was walked through the internet options needed with the tech support from my ISP to make sure DHCP was enabled and every other setting was correct, and he cleared me that all settings were correct.
-Tried ipconfig commands to /renew and /release my IP When I tried ipconfig /renew I get the error 'An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection : unable to contact your DHCP server'
-Restored my PC to a restore point where the Internet was working
All of these options did not work.
What I think the problem is and I am not sure how to fix it, when I run the ipconfig /all command my Auto configuration IPv4 Address shows 169.254.112.76 which I was told is a router IP address even though I am plugged directly from the modem to my PC with an Ethernet cord. So I think that's my problem? But I am not sure.
Having problems exporting my comcast address book to windows live mail address book,Also tyied exporting address book from plaxo without success, please help!
I am an IT tech in a school and we currently have a problem with mice pointers disappearing on the screen.connected to an interactive whiteboard (not brand specific)left until the screen goes black (10 minutes)while people are working on them (on SIMS)all said work stations are on the domain Update on mouse drivers disable screen dimming after 10 minutes (doesn't go off)updated graphics drivers enable mouse trails and set to minimum Swapping from duplicate to extended or computer only.
Mouse is still visible on the whiteboard projection, but not on the monitor in duplicate mode.It not confined to a type of machine or brand.Over the summer holidays a new image was applied, win7 32bit.
I have recently downloaded 'paint.net' to windows 7 and the icon keeps disappearing. Not necesarily on a restart but just over night or during the day at random. The program is still listed and works and it is on my start menu when I click on the windows icon in the bottom left corner. I have tried refreshing and still can't keep the shortcut on the desktop.
I have a folder that that no longer shows any files in explorer. I right click on this folder, click on properties and see that there 171 MB of 59 files in this folder, yet in the explorer view it says there are none. Properties says that these files are not hidden. So how can I see and access my files?
So my cursor keeps disappearing ever since i got an update for windows 7. I don't think there is anything wrong with this computer because my laptop is doing the same thing after i updated it. I have went into my mouse settings but nothing has fixed it.
I have a custom machine that I just recently built a few months ago. Last week, I decided to upgrade the mobo so that I could have more ram slots and a second PCI Express slot. I swapped out the mobos, booted the computer, and everything was working just fine. The only problem is that I'm running Windows 7 OEM and I've heard that you can run into problems when swapping out hardware. My computer was working for about 24 hours after installing the new mobo but at one point the other day the computer just shut itself down. I went to boot it back up and all that popped up was BIOS. I inserted my Windows disc to try and repair my system and I came to find out that my Operating System, along with everything on the Hard Drive was GONE. I have never heard of such a thing happening. So I reinstalled 7 and basically had to start over from scratch. Another day goes by and the same thing happens. This is now the second time I've had to reinstall Windows 7. My computer is running fine now but I am afraid that this is going to happen again so I'm reluctant to put anything on my hard drive until I know this issue is resolved. I contacted MS but they aren't much help as I only have the OEM version of Windows.
I have a new Dell StudioXPS 9000 with Windows 7. The desktop shortcut icons that I create myself to run existing programs keep disappearing from the desktop all by themselves. Those that were already on the desktop when I received the computer and those that are created by new software when installed on the computer have no problem remaining on the desktop. I never had the happen with WinXP.
Why are my Windows system restore points disappearing?I am having problems with my system restore points in Windows 7. I create the restore points, but when after I shut down my PC, they are gone. This is happening with all restore points that the system creates also, such as when it installs updates. I have tried everything suggested online. I made sure that system restore is on, I checked the service, and I set volume shadowing to automatic. Why are Windows system restore points disappearing?
I have a window desktop 64 bit that I joined to a domain and migrated the profile from a workgroup to a domain using profwiz.exeEverything is fine except for the network drives which disappeared a few times.Whether I am logging off or the user just sits there, it wouild disappear and I have no idea why this is happening.
What would cause 9 shares that I have on USB drives to disappear every time Windows 7 is rebooted? I have to recreate them every time. I did a test with another Windows 7 machine, using 1 USB share, and the first time I shared it with the 'Share with Specific People' adding Everyone to the list, and it disappeared upon reboot. I then did it through the Advanced Sharing in the Properties of the folder, rebooted and it actually remembered it. However doing it through the Advanced Sharing on the PC with 9 shares, it still didn't remember them after reboot. Why is there 2 different places to share anyway? I want to think 1 is for remote users and 1 is for local users, but then why don't they just say that, do they have to make it so confusing. It's totally not intuitive.
I am running windows 7. on my hdd i have two partitions. both work fine except when i view the space used on partition D: it shows i have used up 178 gig when windirstat only show i have used 124 gig. please can somebody help me find the other 50 or so gig

We can restore the file but everytime today we try to edit the properties of the file
My music library keeps disappearing, I cant add files or folders anymore so the only way to add files is to play the songs which works until the next time I open the player and they have vanished again. Also I cant rip anymore, cant change the output folder. I am running latest version...
I have my screen saver set at 15 minutes. I first noticed something odd this past weekend. The screen saver was on when I drifted off to the land of sweet dreams. Sometime during the night I woke up, looked across the room, and I saw my desktop. Other than thinking "why do I see my desktop" I thought nothing else about it. Since then I have actually seen the screen saver disappear and my desktop appear. I was on the other side of the room, not on the computer, the mouse did not get moved, and nothing happened that would cause this.
I've not been able to figure out why all of a sudden the desktop would appear. What I can do to keep the screen saver on until I want to go to my desktop? I noticed that after a while the screen saver would come back on and stay on a while before going back to the desktop. It's caught in a loop of going back and forth. In the grand scheme of things, this is not a biggie but I'd still like to know why this is happening.
I currently use Windows Live Photo gallery to edit and organise my photos. Its worked fine until recently.. after editing a photo yesterday I clicked on the arrow button to move onto the next image and as usual a dialogue box popped up telling me it was saving the changes made to the photo and I could click to revert to the original at any time. I moved onto the next image but realised that I'd forgotten to do something and clicked to go back, but the image had gone. I've searched through all my photos and looked in my recyle bin, but the image is nowhere to be found. I may be missing something obvious of course, but I'm scratching my head to know what has happened.
Windows Explorer ( not internet Explorer) starts up when I turn on my computer ( without my request). This just started to occur yesterday. It must be in some startup menu . Where do I look for this to remove it ?
Has anyone experienced the syndrome of files and or complete installed programs simply disappearing after a reboot. I have had many instances of that occuring and when I reinstall the missing program, it picks up all the data that was created ( database files, confg, serial, etc) . I see lots of items in GOOGLE,<DISAPEARING FILES IN WINDOWS 7> but surprisingly , none here on Windows 7 Forum.
I was running Windows Vista 32bit on my Dell Inspiron 1545. I then decided to install Windows 7. I installed the 64bit version. Everything seemed ok apart from my CD/ROM drive. It works now and again but will suddenly disappear. I have seen people saying clean it but I dont think this is necessary as it worked a treat on Windows Vista. I tried to burn a disc in Windows Media Player but it says "connect a burner & restart the player". I have tried deleting the filters in the regedit. I have this morning re-installed Windows 7 but instead installed the 32bit version
