Windows 7 Joining/leaving And Rejoining A Domain?

Jul 16, 2010

I have a number of new Window 7 laptops and have joined the company domain with no problems (SBS running Windows 2003).When I was on the domain I set up a number of printers by browsing the server mainserver\OkiC9650 and finding the printer and it and correctly installs the drivers and provides me with full functionality for the printer. However, if for some reason I have to leave and then rejoin the domain, and I don't delete the printers first, when I rejoin the domain the printers are no longer showing (as one might expect), and when I try to add them again, or add anything connected to themainserver\OkiC9650 I get an error.

It don't think it is anything to do with the printer as I can't connect to any printer in this way.Although the 0x00000006 indicates a permission problem it is not that or a setting problem as it works the first time and no changes are made other than leaving and rejoining the domain. It happens with four laptops, two different makes, and three different models.I don't think it is a Server problem as I have tried leaving the domain, and deleting the Computer name from the Active Directory, and even tried giving the joining computer a different name between leaving and joining. I was hoping if it was recognised as a new computer it would work at least once - but still no good.I am therefore left with the assumption that the problem is with Windows 7, there must be some sort of reference not being cleared that results in a 'duplication' type error when I try the same action again.

If I delete the printer first, before leaving the domain, I can rejoin the domain again and setup the printer correctly, the problem is when I don't delete the printer first, I can never then connect to the printer in this way (I can connect directly to the printer if I use the printers IP address).I am convince the problem is with Windows 7 - can anyone suggest where the mainserver\ reference is being held in Windows 7, or if I am barking up the wrong tree if they could suggest what tree I should be barking at?

Error When Joining Domain?

Apr 23, 2011

I'm trying to join a domain on Windows 7 and I receive the below error message. I'm testing with 2 computers on the network. The other computer is a server with Windows Server 2008 and DNS installed. I set the DNS on Windows 7 to the server's IP address. Installed domain controller using the frasersales.com domain. After restarting the server the computer logins into the domain. The A record for frasersales.com is also pointing to a website. Not sure if this will affect it.Pinging the domain controller works. I was reading on the web that after installing the DC there should be SRV records in the DNS managers domain name folder. Looks like these are missing. Is it possible to manually add them?

Note: This information is intended for a network administrator. If you are not your network's administrator, notify the administrator that you received this information, which has been recorded in the file C:Windowsdebugdcdiag.txt.The following error occurred when DNS was queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate an Active Directory Domain Controller (AD DC) for domain "frasersales.com":The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.frasersales.comCommon causes of this error include the following:- The DNS SRV records required to locate a AD DC for the domain are not registered in DNS. Windows 7 Can't See All Domain Computers

Jul 21, 2011

I have a windows 7 pro that is connected to the domain, but it has a lot of issues, it can discover only about 5 machines from about 50.Also no one in the network can access in through LAN although it can join the domain with no problem. I tried lot of things like:

- Rejoin it to the domain.

- Rename PC name before rejoin it to the domain.

- Remove all profiles and create new ones.

- Remove DNS entry and AD computer entry regarding this machine.

I think it is a system problem not a network problem, but i don't wanna reinstall the system as i have a lot of licenses for it and it is hard to reset these licenses again.

Windows Update Error / Not Search Or Update / Install Critical Items

I'm out of ideas. I've been running Win 7 on this machine for more than a year without issues in updating etc. Now it will not search or update/install critical items. I'm running Symantec (even tried turning the firewall off without any success). I get an error code 80072F7C. When I run hijackthis, I get an error message that my system denied write access to the Hosts file. I proceed with the scan but am unable to produce a log file. I've included a screenshot from the windows update error as well as the error I get when trying to run hijack this.

Optional Update In Windows Update Is Giving A Blue Screen

Nov 3, 2012

The update is called:

nvidia - Graphics adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2, Other hardware - NVIDIA GeForce GT 425M.

After installing it, whenever my laptop tries to use the Nvidia card, I get a blue screen and the system restarts. I looked in installed updates to uninstall it, and it is not there. I did a system restore to four days before I installed it, and I still get the same effect. Lastly, I installed some older nvidia drivers that used to work using the clean install option, and I still have this problem.

Unable To Update Using Windows 7 Update (Code 8000FFFF Error)?

Oct 30, 2012

A while back, after successfully downloading and installing some updates in the Windows Update, it prompted me to restart the computer to finish the update installation process. However, I continued to use the computer for quite some time before restarting it, and then when it tried to configure the updates on the start-up screen, it showed that it was not successful in doing so. In the past, I noticed that this would typically happen when I did not restart the computer immediately (or within a short time) after the updates finished and I got the prompt to restart. I would have to go to Windows Update and do it over again, and then upon immediate restart, it would always work properly. But this time, it did not, and I keep getting the 8000FFFF error message instead.

Also, now, every time I start the computer, it shows that it's "Preparing to configure Windows... Do not shut off computer" (presumably the updates that never got completely and correctly configured) in the start-up screen... gets to 35%..fails... shuts down (screen goes black)... restarts again... tries to configure again, fails again, shuts down and restarts again... tries to configure again, fails again, and finally it apparently gives up and says "reverting changes" and finally goes to the desktop.I've looked at the answers in several threads at the answers.microsoft.com forum that were started by people with similar problems, and also tried several of the Microsoft "FixIt" files on the Microsoft site, but none of them worked. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium.

Create Domain-like Groups In Windows 7?

Jun 16, 2012

I was just wondering, as I'm not that familiar with intermediate features of non-NOS windows releases. I noticed that when you log into different computers on the home network, they are still prefixed with a domain (the computer name/hostname). Is there a way to put all of my home computers on the same "domain" ? Of course, I mean to do this without the use of a server/domain controller.

I know that windows 7 has homegroups,ut i'm not sure if this will work the same way.
